“Ideal base to explore from”

Stayed here for 4 nights at the end of September. We were in a comfortable, large and quiet room on the first floor at the back of the hotel - room 101. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room but supplies not routinely replaced, but I am sure they would have done if asked. Bottles of water on arrival too. Fridge in the room was very useful. Good size bathroom with shower and omplimentary shower gel and shampoo. General decoration of the room was OK, perhaps a little tired if I was being picky, but my wife and I spend little time in the room prefering to get out and see things. Breakfast was excellent continental style with plenty to choose from served from 7 to 11 We found all the staff to be friendly and helpfull

Area recommendations
Do not be put off by the area, its shabby chic! Lots of good restaurants and bars all around the Hotel
Must see
Apart from the usual attractions of Krakow if you are at all interested in aircraft dont miss the polish national aircraft museum (tram 9 or 10 will take you there, get off at stop AWF and walk back 200yds to the museum which is sighnposted on the right through a wood.

“Excellent trip, hotel and city”

Hotel was well located and easy to access transport and town centre which was only about 20 mins walk. Staff were lovely, they were helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Standard of the room was great and it was cleaned every day. There were little touches like toiletries in the bathroom and bottles of water everyday which went that extra mile.

Area recommendations
Kazimierz - excellent location for accessing trips and local sightseeing. Lots of great eating places in this locale.
Getting around
Transport links excellent. Trams cheap and plentiful and train from airport to centre of Krakow was straightforward.
Must see
Auschwitz & Birkenhau, Oscar Schindlers Factory adn the Salt Mine, We were here in August which was extremely busy. although we did a couple of the trips by ourselves, it didnt save much money and you were waiting in queues to get in which took up a lot of time. Book through reputable tours - we used Crakow City Tours and they were brilliant. Sebastian was the english speaking guide and he was excellent, really knowledgeable and funny.
Dining
Went with some recommendations from free Cracow information booklet. Can recommend Kuchnia et Doroty in Kazimierz which was excellent traditional food and cheap prices. Also, can recommend Fusion in Kazimierz which was Japanese and again excellent food and good value. Balatin near the centre of the old town is Hungarian - excellent food and again good value.

“Very impressed”

An ideal location on the edge of the old Jewish quarter with its many restaurants and lively bars yet just 2 minutes from the excellent tram system and only 15 minutes walk from the main square. Staff spoke excellent English and were always pleasant, polite and efficient. The rooms were clean and comfortable with a TV, free wireless internet and a fridge as well as a well-stocked bathroom. The buffet breakfast had the biggest selection and variety we have seen with standard "English" items such as cornflakes and scrambled egg to Polish sausages, meat and cheese plus a huge variety of fruits and yoghourts. For independent travellers there is a very cheap bus service from the airport to the city train station and then on to the 50 tram to the hotel street.

Area recommendations
I would recommend the northern edge of the old Jewish quarter where we stayed. It was just a few minutes walk to a variety of restaurants and lively bars as well as lots of places to visit in terms of churches and the Jewish heritage. A 10-15 minute stroll will get you to the river and even Oskar Schindler's factory is only about 30 minutes walk away - or you can use one of the many electric carts that tout their business everywhere. In the other direction you are only minutes away from the tram system that is very frequent and fast - plus amazingly cheap. The only problem is with choosing the right ticket. There is a 15-minute ticket, a single-journey ticket then other choices such as an hour ticket - and you must stamp it on the tram as we saw several people caught by non-uniformed inspectors. Otherwise just walk - 15 minutes to the main square!
Getting around
For those who don't like spending too much money - ignore all the taxis, tours and other offers. You can travel very cheaply. From the airport take the bus on the corner to the city centre for a fraction of the cost of a taxi or get the free shuttle bus immediately outside to the train station. Once in the centre there is a very efficient tram system and once you have worked out which ticket to buy [15-minute, single journey, one hour, etc] it is very cheap and quick. Just remember to stamp your ticket using the machine on the tram as they have a lot of inspectors, often quite young and casually dressed who are very good at catching out the free-riders! Of course walking is the cheapest option and most of the places you will want to see in Krakow are in reasonable walking distance of each other. Tours to places such as Aushcwitz can also be done for a third of the tour price using public transport though one drawback we found was that at the museum you had to book a guided tour [taking the cost to nearer the full tour price] between the hours of 10 and 3pm. We took the free shuttle to Birchenau and looked round there first [no restrictions] which we thought also helped to give a better understanding of the main museum at Auschwitz which we then went back to at 3pm for our own free tour using the cheap guidebook [though all the exhibits are labelled in English anyway]. Allow at least one hour at Birchenau and 2-3 hours in Auschwitz.
Dining
Just across the road from the castle is an eating place which has an outside verandah but inside is a large hall which buzzes with excitement and live music [classical rather than pop]. The beer is excellent and usually served in litre pots and the food is good quality and in such large portions that we couldn't eat it all - a rarity for me at least - and at much cheaper prices than here in the UK. It is called the Pod Wawelem - check it out for a great experience.

“Great Hotel, fully recommend it.”

The Hotel was great. Our room was nice and big, lovely and warm. The bed was very comfortable too. Shower was very nice and always had hot water. The staff were really pleasant and very helpful (even though they worked long hours). The breakfast buffet was ideal, had a mixture of everything and had new things added to it each morning, and being available from 7-11 was good. It was in a great location on the edge of Kazimierz with plenty of great places to eat and drink. It didn't take long to get to the main square or many other places of interest.

Area recommendations
The whole of the city had lots of great areas to visit, all walkable from the Hotel. Kazimierz itself is lovely, the film Schindlers List was filmed around here, a walk over the bridge to Podgorze and to Schindlers factory-which is now fully open as a museum was a nice walk. The main square has plenty to see, then not too far away is Wawel Castle where you can go and see the dragon which does spit fire at you. We paid for organised trips to Auschwitz-Berkanau and the Salt Mine which we booked through the Hotel and they were really good value for money, brilliantly organised with guides to explain everything. From the beautiful churches to just a walk along the river there's plently for everyone to do.
When to go
We went 23-28 January, the snow made the city more beautiful.
What to pack
Take plenty of jumpers and thermals if you go at this time of year as it is very cold, -9 at one part of our stay.

“Geat Location”

The location was perfect for the restaurants & cafe culture that the Jewish Quarter has become. Staff are very friendly & helpful. My only complaints wouls be that the duvets are far too small for double beds & the fan in the bathrooms keep kicking in all night causing a restless night. Yes I would go back & recommend it to others. Be prepared for some walking to get the best out of Krakow.

Area recommendations
Jewish Quarter (Kasimersz) for restaurants & cafes and the Old Town for Cathedral and Cloth Hall.

“great location, great value”

This hotel is on the edge of the Kazimirez district, really great and walking distance, about 10minutes to the central square in the old town. The room decor was a little dated but the room was spacious and spotlessly clean with a great shower so I was quite happy. The breakfast was a good buffet from 7 through th 11am, I liked it running this late as I was out late a couple of nights and was appreciative of the late breakfast! The reception staff were very helpful, booking a taxi for me and even having stamps for my postcards. With an Expedia deal this hotel worked out particularly good value for money.

Must see
Visit Schindler's factory, just over the river in Podgorze, they are in the process of creating a new museum there but already there is a small exhibit and I found it very powerful to see the real place after having seen Schindler's List.

“Fantastic Stay in Krakow”

Amazing value! I have stayed in hotel rooms all around Europe, from budget to "splurge," and have never stayed in such a spacious room. Extremely clean, comfortable beds, very quiet, and delicious, belly-filling breakfasts. Walking distance to palace and Jewish Quarter nightlife, and only 2 blocks to public transportation. Helpful, friendly staff. I will be recommending this hotel to friends and family.

Area recommendations
Krakow is extremely walkable. If you choose to amble along the Planty, you will see the city in one day. The parks and palace are beautiful picture spots. The Jewish Quarter is a great place to find fun restaurants and bars.
Must see
*Before heading out in the Jewish Quarter, visit the center square and grab a toasty-- huge toasted open-faced sandwiches, only about a dollar. *At the Palace, visit the Dragon's cave, and stay to see the Dragon sculpture spit fire. *Skip the fancy tours - it is very easy to see nearby Auschwitz, Czestochowa, and the salt mines by using public transportation, and is a fraction of the cost of the alternative.

“Great location”

Stayed Dec 2009. Hotel is fairly basic and the decor is a bit gloomy but clean and tidy. The staff were always friendly and helpful. Beds, bedding and laundry are due an upgrade, they were all pretty tired. All you can eat breakfast buffet was good and caters for all tastes. We did get a non-smoking room but next door wasn't and their extractor fan blew the smoke into our bathroom. Main advantage was location. It's easy to get trams and buses into the Old Town although the walk is only 15-20 minutes. However within a few minutes walk there are countless bars and restaurants and it was difficult to find a bad one, so we didn't need to head back into town to eat. The shops and market are very good and we did most of our shopping there as the Xmas market although it has a great atmospheric is fairly unexciting for shopping. There are a lot of pubs and clubs nearby to the hotel so it can get noisy if you have a front facing room.
