“Pleasant Hotel, just! Shame about it's surrounds...”
Ester Hotel, is a quaint little Hotel. The existing write ups mention a lot of nice things, however apart from the Staff, I've yet to discover these. The place is very nice, but it's surrounds lets it down and a walk into the main Square is 20 minutes, via the main road. The square, in the Jewish sector is very quiet, too quiet for my liking, maybe a visit in December to see the Christmas Fair was the wrong idea, and the fair wasn't fab neither! All in all, a nice Hotel, just, but the menu needs a little more variety and don't accept a room on the 1st floor, the noise from the kitchens can be unacceptable. If you like a little tv whilst you rest or prepare for the many delights of Krakow, don't expect anything decent, unless you enjoy watching Sky News. Visited in December 2011.
“Heart of the Jewish Quarter”
The Ester Hotel is right in the middle of the former Jewish quarter of Krakow. It is a medium sized with the restaurant and outdoor eating area serving a menu which includes Jewish dishes. The reception staff were very obliging and helped us to book tours and with information. Breakfast was a very varied buffet with eggs cooked to order but things were not always replenished and on the day that a large tour group was there it was very hard to get a seat. Our room had a dormer window and slanted low roofline which required us to duck our heads to move around the two single beds. The old synagogue, now a museum, is accross the road and there were other Jewish buildings in the street including another synagogue and its very old cemetary which miraculously survived the war intact. There were always small tour vehicles, like golf carts, available right outside the hotel offering guided tours of all the attractions in the city and this was a great way to see the highlights. The street had a number of hotels and Jewish restaurants in a row and every evening there was live music and lots of people enjoying outdoor eating. It was a very atmospheric setting.
“Great Holiday”
We chose Krakow for a short break, hotel was in the Jewish Quarter which was handy for the busy night life but also quite. 15 min walk to the main square which was amazing. No faults with the hotel, good selection for breakfast. Plenty of eating places near by, on the whole a great hotel
“comfortable stay”
The hotel is a very good location, in the old jewish quarter. lot of good restaurants and bars within very easy walking distance. the hotel is in a lovely old square. you can walk to the market square in about 20 mins from here. My room was in the attic. it was quite dark and a little opressive, I had the lamps on even in the day. The stafff were friendly, polite and helpful. the breakfast buffet was not bad, you can ask for freshly cooked eggs, bacon or omlette, as well as the usual breakfast spread and good value for money. if you want to book any of the outings, the tour bus picks up from this hotel every morning around 9am, very handy.you can book at the front desk.
“Location, comfort and style”
Hotel Ester exceeded my expectations. The location was great, the staff were friendly and efficient, the room was lovely - clean, well presented and comfortable, and the food in the restaurant was delicious.
“Location! location! location!”
Perfectly located on the main square in Kazimierz--near restaurants (the hotel has a restaurant with klezmer entertainment), the synagogues of the Jewish quarter and a 10 minute walk over the bridge to the ghetto and the office of Schindler's factory--15 minutes from the Rynek. Despite the location, I did not hear noise once I was upstairs. Hotel is nicely maintained and clean with recent bathroom updates. As one person, I had a single on the 4th floor which meant schlepping a suitcase one flight (elevator goes 3 flights) and the room was small (part of a onetime attic I think) but it was fine. They have larger rooms on the other floors. A nice breakfast--cereal, yogurt, salads, etc. For my purposes, it was absolutely perfect.
“Not impressed! However, the staff was friendly.”
The room was so small that you cannot move around. When I reported this, they said that the hotel was full. The electrical sockets are coming off when you unplug! The curtains are not secured well. No kettele to make tea,
“Strongly recommended”
I strongly recommend this hotel in the Jewish Quarter. Great location. 15 minutes south of the main square. Friendly staff. Clean hotel. Restaurants very close by, Great room and lovely breakfast. What more do you want from a long weekend ? Will definitely go back. 3 nights in Krakow wasn't enough including fascinating trips to the salt mines and Auschwitz. There's a lot to see and do !
“Plan for an upgrade”
My room was dreadfully small; in fact, I think the bathroom was about the same size. It was also very dark. It certainly was not one of the photos on their site -- I felt robbed and said so to the staff. They moved me to a larger room and did not charge me which I thought was excellent. My concern would be for the unsuspecting traveler who encounters the same thing only to find that the hotel is fully booked and no other rooms available. Personally, I think the hotel is not a four star, but a three star by American standards. Good breakfasts, friendly staff, very clean rooms and lobby.
“Will definitely recommend this hotel!”
Lovely little hotel surrounded by top notch restaurants!
