“Tigaki and Hotel Tigkai Star - Well worth a visit!”

What a lovely hotel and a lovely town to stop in!!! The staff at Hotel Tigaki Star were always on hand to help us with any problems no matter what time of day or night and you always felt warmly welcomed. The accommodation was well looked after both the rooms and the grounds around the hotel and the maids were extremely polite and left the room spotless!!! We really could not fault anything about the hotel and would eagerly encourage other people to stop there. The hotel was situated at the end of a very quiet road about 5 minutes walk away from the main street which had lots of traditional tavernas with few bars which is good if you like a quieter holiday, although the few bars there did stay open late if you wanted them to. The whole town of Tigaki had a welcoming feel to it and everywhere we went we felt safe and welcomed. The hotel was about 5 - 10 minutes walk from the beach which was easily accessible and there were always enough sunbeds and parasols on the beach if you wanted to pay for them. The flights with Olympic Air were also very good with good customer service, very quick transfer times (55 minutes for iour return flight from Kos to Athens theh Athens to London) and much more leg room than with the lower cost airlines. Once again, we will definitely be flying with Olympic Airlines again in the future. Overall, a very pleasing holiday which we would recommend to anyone to try for themselves!

Area recommendations

Tigaki is definitely a town for people looking for a more traditional Greek holiday with plenty of Greek tavernas all serving traditional food. There are more cosmopolitan restaurants serving more British style food but these are few and far between. There a few bars on the main road but these are not 'club' style places and were not rowdy in anyway. The whole town is much more peaceful than the hip and happening resort of Kardamena so if you want a relaxing holiday then head to Tigaki!!!

When to go

We went in Whitsun week (Saturday 29th May) as I'm a teacher and the town was rather quiet as the main holiday season doesn;t start fully for Greece until June 25th but this was not a bad thing as it was nice and relaxing. The weather was in the mid to high 20s most days with 1 shower of rain and was very pleasant to either sit by the beach or pool or visit different places. I could imagine Tigaki gets much busier once the main season starts in June so a visit in early June might be a good idea

Getting around

Kos is quite a small island, and even though we had booked a hire car for the week, public transport and organised tours were very common so you could get around easily. Most key sites are marked on road signs although it is advisable to get a Kos road map if you are driving around to make sure you go onto the correct roads.

“gemoedelijk en plezierig!”

prima hotel voor een rustige vakantie. sfeervol, weinig nederlanders, leuke bar aan het zwembad voor goede lunch en lekker avondeten - met erg plezierige bediening. ontbijtbuffet, lekker op het terras, prima.
