Comfortable hotel in glorious Location
We visited in second week of October. Season on island had finished at that stage so other restaurants and bars on island had closed. Hotel bar and restaurant were the only places open. However the food in the hotel was good enough and eating there for a week proved to be fine. Very quiet at that time of year but definitely a sense of getting away from it all.

Quiet island beach getaway
Only 30 mins by frequent ferry from Dubrovnik. Charming quiet spot by sandy beach. Hotel food only average (lots of half baord) and little other choice nearby, but you can't have everything at these great rates. Two nights is enough.

Haven of calm
The location is perfect - close enough to Dubrovnik, but at the same time, feeling like a remote island hideaway. A great place for untroubled unwinding and relaxation. As well as the hotel, with it's open air restaurant terrace, peaceful swimming pool and private beach, you also have the benefit of being able to walk around the lovely island as well. A hugely relaxing and restful holiday destination, with pleasant and obliging staff.

Beautiful Island peaceful hotel but lots of steps
Beautiful Island close to Dubrovnik, cheap and easy to island hop to Lupud, Sipan and back to Dubrovnik. It is the only Hotel on the Island but there are also Villas that can be rented. Even though we travelled just after summer Holidays ( arrived 11th Sept ) One of the Resraurants next to the harbour Villa Lovor was already shut and the Villa Ruza was closed on the thursday and friday due to the weather (thunder storms) and on the Saturday was hosting a wedding, additionally on the days it was open it was only for dinner and they wanted a reservation. Limiting dinning options to the hotel or walk to the other village where we had a lovely lunch at the little beach side restaurant, we were not half board so chose meals from the menu, which were ok, the buffet half board did not appeal, looked and felt like school dinners, breakfast also ok not much fresh fruit and only varient was the vegatables on offer i.e. sprouts, aubergine, broccili, cauliflower. We did go to Villa Ruza on the Sunday and the meal was delicious. One word of warning the hotel is built into the hillside in 8 blocks and there are lots of steps and no lifts, on the night we arrived we were escorted to an appartment in block 5 and on the 3rd floor this was the furthest appartment, fortunately it was only a twin and we had booked a family room I went back to the reception and we were moved immediatley to a room in block 2. Lovely pool and beach to sit around when weather good not much to do when weather bad.

Beautiful Island.
The Hotel is comfortable and clean but it’s the location that really makes this place special. Kolocep island is a beautiful place, which I can't recommend enough. It's a great place to relax either on the beach just in front of the hotel or at the harbour side bar simply watching the fishing boats and ferries come in and out. As Hotel Villas Kolocep is on an island don't forget you need to factor the timetable of the ferry (they show it on the hotels website). It takes a minimum of 30 min to get to port gruz from the airport plus collecting luggage and passport control time so plan your journey otherwise you may have to catch a much more expensive taxi boat (call the hotel and they will send it). This place is worth the extra hassle (Although if you feeling flush you can pre-hire the taxi boat any time of day and not wait for ferries) as it’s certainly among the most pretty islands I've seen.

Great Hotel
The rooms are in villa blocks seperate from the hotel which was quite nice, we had a wonderful sea view which I never tired of looking out of. Reception and waiting staff were all very helpful and courteous. We dined a couple times in teh evening, once at the buffet and a second time off teh a lacarte menu, both time food was good. Overall a very good hotel to stay at.

Picturesque & peaceful, but.......
My husband, son and I have just arrived back from spending one week in Hotel Kolocep. We found the hotel staff very helpful in fulfilling our requests:- We asked for adjoining rooms, facing the bay and then, at the last minute, requested rooms to be fairly accessable, as we were aware that there may be several levels and I had injured my foot. The island was picturesque and peaceful, although we were glad to stay only one week, as it was too quiet for a longer stay. The hotel food was also a bit basic at the best of times - the buffet breakfast was fine, but didnot require broccolli, courgettes or sprouts to be served! Apart from the hotel, there was only 1 taverna, a bar (stick to beer, don't order cocktails) and a small mini market. Also Villa Rusa, which is great, expensive and totally out of place. However, the mainland is only 20 minutes away by ferry, then a quick bus or taxi ride to Dubrovnik. The island of Lopud is about 20 minutes in the opposite direction by ferry and it had quite a bit more to offer in the way of shops, bars and places to eat. The potential for the island is great, a couple of more bars and tavernas, a bit of investment and it would be a real hit!

Great hotel for a family
We just came back from a lovely 5 days at Villas Kolocep, What is there not to like? It all starts with a 30 minute boat trip from the port of Dubrovnik on the utterly romantic Postira, a ship straight out of a Tin-tin story. Passengers are being met by hotel staff and luggage will be driven on to the hotel on a golf cart. The hotel is only a 5 minute walk away, along the beach. Staff is really helpful, friendly and make you feel very welcome. The island is small and quiet and coming from London, that's a blessing. There is a lovely restaurant near the port, and another one on the other side of the bay and a 3rd restaurant (a superb fish restaurant, you need to book and the receptionists will phone them for you) half an hour walk away across the island and it's all very idyllic. Our kids loved it. There is a sandy beach, they easily make friends with other kids, there are no cars but you can rent kayaks to peddle to the blue cave or around the island (takes 4 hours). The room is spacious, the beds comfortable and the only cash machine on the island is in the hotel. After 2 days you forget about the rest of the world. We travelled with 2 young kids (age 5 and 8) and they had a great time, they met some other kids, we met their parents. The lobby has a small library of books left behind by other guests. The views are great and with Swiss precision the Postira connects the island with the main land and neighboring islands. We had a great time and planning to go back next year.

Great little hotel for a short stay
Staff are excellent - friendly and attentive. Rooms are tiny but clean and adequate. Ensuite is really small and definately 3 star max. Menu not brilliant but again, if you are not staying too long then its acceptable. The only really dissapointing aspect was the pool and beach areas - the sun loungers had no cushions and therefore became really uncomfortable after a short time and many of the parrasols were broken due to sea breezes which you had to pay the hotel to use both these items if you wanted to lie on the beach. Overall, a nice place for a short stay.

Kolocep hotel
A great hotel on the island of Kolocep. The hotel does exactly what it says on the tin - provides a nice place to stay on a beautifully small island. Good room (we stayed in a room in Villa 2 which overlooked the bay). Had a lovely pool with sunloungers and unbrellas (beware the bed hoggers with their towels) and a beach right outside the hotel. Food was resonably priced at the hotel, but if you can do go to the restaurant on the end of the island as it is amazing.

It's on an Island
The resort is very nice, but it is on an island. If you do not plan on exploring Dubrovnik, and want to sit on the beach this is a great location. Getting to the island is either by ferry, or water taxi. The ferry is on a fixed schedule and the schedule is not great for exploring Dubrovnik. The water taxi you can reserve a better time, but it is pricey. Otherwise the hotel was clean and comfortable. The staff was always helpful.

Great stay
The staff were friendly at all times, even though they were very busy. The food was good and there were a range of options. There are no lifts in the apartment blocks so this may not be convenient for all. The island is unspoilt and there are several walking tracks (bring good shoes to walk in). Kolocep was relaxing and peaceful and not overcrowded. I would definitely go back.

A good base from which to explore...
Overall, I'd say this hotel was 'fine'. Its not luxury, but its certainly not bad. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the food is generally ok, though I would recommend walking down to Villa Ruza whenever your wallet would allow. More important here is the location. Kolocep is a beautiful island and having visited Lopud and Sipan, I'm glad we were here. It feels unspoilt and there is loads to do on the island and within easy travelling distance.

We really enjoyed our stay here. We were in the hotel for 7 nights which was perfect. I would not recommend to stay much longer than this. The only issue here was the food - the dinner selection wasn't great so we ended up going into Dubrovnik 3 out of the 7 nights. Room cleanliness was excellent and staff were very friendly. Overall a great spot for a relaxing short holiday.

Great place for a quiet and relaxing holiday
We had an excellent experience there, and the only comment I have is that some of the reception staff could have been a little more helpful. However, it's only a very minor comment. We would also have liked to go on one of the guided kayaking tours, but any time we came to ask there was no-one there, and the reception staff did not seem to know anything about it. Otherwise, excellent.

Great place to relax
We had a lovely stay at the Hotel Villas Kolocep which is on the island of Kolocep just 30 minutes boat ride from the old walled city of Dubrovnik. We visited in the middle of July when it was very hot (over 30 degrees C everyday!). We welcomed the air conditioning in the room. The beach and pool were also useful places to cool down! Kolocep is a small island that seemed to attract a lot of families as well as a few couples looking for a quiet place to relax. There is not a huge amount to do on the island - but Dubrovnik is not far. The only draw back is that unless you arranged a water taxi through the hotel, the last boat back to the island left Dubrovnik at 8pm. I would therefore recommend if you want to properly see Dubrovnik, spend a couple of nights in a hotel actually on the mainland and then come out to the lovely Kolocep to chill and relax. Everything was very pleasant about the hotel, apart from the coffee at breakfast - but the bar 2 mins down the road did amazing coffee, so don't panic if you need your regular fix!

Idyllic island get away
We have just spent 1 week at this hotel and I cannot say enough good things about our stay. The island is absolutely perfect for a really relaxing and stress-free break. The hotel was super clean and the staff friendly and helpful. The hotel restaurant was good. We did not have the half board package but often chose to eat dinner at the hotel anyway. The breakfasts were excellent. As the island is so small there is not a vast choice of restaurants but those there are were good. We walked a lot and explored the island, finding some amazing little bays with crystal clear water and hardly any people there. The hotel has a great pool and a sandy beach right at the entrance. Just one word of warning: if you have difficulty climbing steps, be sure to ask for a room in buildings 1 or 2. If you want a riotous night-life, this is probably not the place for you, but if you want a truly relaxing stay in an absolutely beautiful place, we have absolutely no reservations in recommending this hotel 100%.

Staff all very friendly and helpful and standard of cleanliness excellent. Room just about big enough with very small balcony. Food very disappointing, quantity rather than quality. Sometimes difficult to get lounger either by pool or on beach especially when the beach ones were reserved for block party bookings. Beautiful island and location, would I stay again? Probably not because of the food, but it is very good value and you will not starve!

relaxing retreat
Great hotel on a car free island which delivers a very peaceful and relaxing holiday. The island is accessed via a relatively cheap ferry service running four times a day in high season to and from Dubrovnik port. The last service out to the island runs at 8pm, although you can charter a private boat. We had to do this on arrival due to a delayed flight. The port is a 20 minute walk from the historic city of Dubrovnik. Dubrovnik is very compact so it is possible to see the majority of the sights in one or ideally two days. We had in mind using the ferry to go to and from the island most evenings but this was not realistic due to the travel time so other than a day trip to Dubrovnik we stayed on the island. The island itself is very pleasant, with a walking trail around the majority of it and a few beaches. Due to the very hot days, we did not explore much beyond the bay in front of the hotel and the village and hills behind the bay. The restaurant in the hotel did great a la carte food although the set menu looked less appealing. There is also a shop, a bar, a cafe and a restaurant within 5 minutes of the hotel which provide other eating and drinking options. But we actually liked the restaurant at the hotel the best because it was decent value and the service was excellent. By contrast the service at the cafe was poor and the restaurant was absurdly expensive.

More like B&B than hotel but good value for money
We were not allocated the room of our choice on check-in and were promised to be moved to another room the following day. Later the same day, though, we found the aircon was not working and we had to move to another room for the first night, then change the room again on the second night. This was VERY disappointing as we emailed the hotel several times in advance to be allocated a room with the sea view. Must be early riser to stay here as the church bells ring at 6am followed by cries of a donkey. Surprisingly, TV converts to PC with keyboard, which is an unusual bonus. There are only two restaurants within walking distance of the hotel - one is like a cafe, and another is expensive but offers very good service. Only one small supermarket. Peaceful location (except for the church bells and donkey) to chill out.

Relaxing, but not much else there!
Hotel Villa Kolocep was clean and well maintained, but being the only hotel on the island it is not a particularly well developed area. If you want to lie on the beach/ by the pool all week, then it's perfect for you, but I walked the whole island within 3 hours of arriving and kayaked round the circumference the next day, which left nowhere else to explore. Ended up spending most of our time on the 30 minute ferry to Dubrovnik, which is great value (around £2.50pp), but left me wondering why I didn't just stay on the mainland. One negative point about the hotel itself is that the Internet was down for our entire stay, wjich wasn't a big issue for us, but if you think you'll need it you should probably look elsewhere.

Sun, courtesy, and a great service bonus!
Koločep is a delightful island near Dubrovnik, Croatia. With virtually no vehicles (golf carts and some motor scooters), it is a place for a slower pace of life and relaxation. Hotel Villas Kolocep is an extension of that relaxation. Ours was a 4-day stay to celebrate a wedding anniversary. In the first 24 hours there were several wrinkles in service, but they were corrected. The Villas are "up" from the main hotel center (reception, dining, and pool), but most of it is smooth, paved walkways. In four days we chose to walk nearly 20 miles across the island to find places to see. A map is vital -- many paths have direction signs, but 20% more signs would be very helpful. The most amazing service experience was our last day: checkout is at 11 a.m., but we wanted to leave on the 3:40 p.m. ferry, after swimming and spending more time in the sun. The front desk offered that we could check out on time (we did it eary, in fact), leave our luggage there, go swimming, and then when we returned they would provide a courtesy room to shower, clean-up, and prepare for departure. No extra cost!! THat was icing on the cake. The wait staff in the dining room were warm, courteous, and gracious. Our waiter remembered our wine choice from night to night.

Very Beautiful island/hotel
Hotel was beautiful, and the staff, especially the waiters were very polite and helpful. The restaurant prices were very reasonable and the food was excellent. The hotel itself was tidy and clean. Our room was as shown on their website, the only problem with our room was the computer which made a horribly load noise while running, this was mentioned to staff but nothing was done about it. But it worked ok just slow and noisy so a bit of a pain when watching movies late at night. The thing the website doesn't tell you is that the ferries go to the islan 4 times a day except sundays. On sundays it goes early in the morning or late at night, so if your plane lands at 10am like mine there is no way other than expensive private taxi boat to the island until the 8:30pm boat. SO except that was a very beautiful island and hotel with good staff. The island does have another restaurant and a shop too. Highly recommend!

we were not impressed by the room, we had as some other family memebers who had a lounge in their room as well as a bath and seperate bedroom, when we asked about moving as we would have liked a bath, they showed us rooms which were the same as we had and further away, the attitude of the receptionist wasnt great either she told us that we had a nice veiw and what more did we want, she also told us that all rooms were the same but clearly they are not the same. it also would have been nice to have the option of beans or tomatoes with our breakfast. but the island was beautiful and we had a fantastic stay, if we went back there again i would make sure that we had a different room.

Lovely peaceful island...
We stayed here for our honeymoon. It exceeded our expectations in nearly every way. The staff were helpful and friendly and the setting of the hotel is very peaceful. It's wonderful staying on such a small island but you never felt trapped or bored as the ferry to Dubrovnik was so quick and cheap! Our only complaint was that the food wasn't great. We were only bed and breakfast but we tried the buffet one night (not good) but we found the regular menu better (but not brilliant). There is other restaurants on the island and we found these more to our liking. But over all this hotel is a winner!

Beautiful island
Villas Kolocep rooms are set in 8 buildings alongside a secluded bay. Our room had a sea view. The complex has it's own restaurant on site serving a good variety of reasonably priced food. There is a swimming pool and small clean sandy beach. There are three other eateries on the island although one of these was not open during our stay in late May. The island is small, traffic free and very pretty. We walked, sea kayaked, took the ferry to neighbouring islands and also had two days in Dubrovnik., which has plenty of restaurants, shops and bars for anyone that needs more than Kolocep has to offer. Dubrovnic is lovely, cosmopoliton and it's worth wallking the city walls and taking the cable car to the mountain top. But we still preferred our little island. A real unspoiled gem. Probably best to go slightly off season if you want to make the most of the peace and avoid the worst of the day trippers. A holiday providing many happy memories.

Kolocep is a small island about 30 minutes by ferry from Dubrovnik. The hotel sent someone to meet me from the ferry when it arrived and drove me and my luggage the short distance around the bay to the hotel. The setting is stunning - the hotel borders a private beach that is quiet and peaceful, overlooking the crystal blue waters of the Adriatic. The hotel staff are very warm and welcoming. The rooms are in line with what you'd expect for a good 3-star hotel, with the added benefit of free internet access in rooms and wireless access around the hotel complex itself. The restaurant and bar serve good quality Croatian food and the staff are helpful and attentive. It offers all you could ask for of a hotel of this price - good service, decent food and a beautiful, secluded Croatian setting with amazing views.

Very Relaxing
Before last year, I have never returned to the same country, let alone the same location.... We went to Hotel Kolecep in September 2010 for a five day stay, it was so relaxing and lovely, that for the first time ever... we returned there the following year, but for a weeks stay, in Sepetmber 2011. The island is quiet, without transport and very pituresque. The hotel/appartments are clean, tidy and well looked after. the staff are very accomodating and keen to make your stay pleasant. The buffet breakfast was full of choices with hot and cold foods and a good selection of teas. The only criticism is that the coffee is extremely poor. The evening buffet, priced about £13 for all you can eat had a wide selection and was well worth the money. There is an italian restaurant nearby which is very very cheap. The other local restaurant and bar was also reasonable (and served a variety of good coffee)! There is a boat that goes to 2 of the other islands, which we did travel to. I would most definately recommed this to friends and already have over the last year. I would also return here for a third time at some stage. This is a gorgeous place to visit, with very good accomodation and staff.... A DEFINATE RECOMMENDATION!

Read all the reviews of this island and the hotel before we went, and they were all good, and we certainly agree with them. The rooms were clean and comfy. The showers were always hot. The food was excellent with a very varied choice of meat, fish, vegetables, salad and fruit. The breakfasts could be cooked or continental, with plenty of fruit, cereal and yoghurt. The rooms all had a balcony and internet connection and a good bed. there were a lot of steps up to our villa, but the view was worth it. Last, but not least, the hotel staff were all amazingly kind and courteous. We loved it and would go back definitely.

Fantastic Place, great for the price
Just returned from Hotel Kolocep and have to say we were very impressed with the price/quality ratio of the hotel. Rooms are clean, comfortable and the hotel is situated right next to the beach/port of this wonderful island. We stayed four days which I think is the perfect amount of time - the island is small but there are lots of walks, other beaches and more to explore. There are only five restaraunts, one of which is the hotel, and prices are much more reasonable than Dubrovnik. Highly recommended

As described on-line, my hopes of arriving with my kids (boy 12 and girl 15) across an azure sea and having luggage taken away and sauntering by the beach along to the sole hotel, all came true - we had a week on this island, visiting local Elafiti neighbours in Lopud (noisy and tacky by comparison) and Sipan (atmospheric and worth it for those wanting sense of seclusion), as well as Dubrovnik for its history and liveliness and the 'hole in the wall' experience.... The hotel was perfect - everything was easy, working, not OTT or shabby. The staff are efficient and friendly. The food of the hotel is really good - elsewhere options are limited and not best value perhaps (Villa Rusa for a treat, lacks a little atmos?) - but we hope the island can continue to operate this scale of outlets (2 shops, PO, 3 bars in the main settlement - the other one has one bar). We visited the 'blue cave', enjoyed jumping into the sea from rocks, walking through pristine paths, no traffic - just healthy flora and pretty dwellings, nicely diverse tourists, no crowds. Only once I'd booked did I spot the online info about disputed ownership of the hotel going back to the communist history - I wanted to be sensitive to the ethics of this case, but in fact there was no evidence of problems to mar our holiday. Nor was much made of the apparent non-profit/intellectual retreat background to the business - so a little mystery and I'd be interested to know more or the story. But as a holiday?.... blissful.

Even Better Than Expected
Well what can I say, I looked at many many reviews on this website before booking this at the last minute and I am so glad that I did. I'm 23 and went with my mum, needing a break and we had a fantastic time. The photos on the hotels own website do not do it justice. It's a stunning, stunning place. The island the hotel is based on is beautiful and is not at all commercial, with a stunning view (expecially if like us you request a room with a sea view e.g. Room 814 or 813). The hotel rooms have over 100 films in the hotel rooms for you to watch and the tv also turns into a pc which is good for email etc. The Hotel is friendly and we found that there were a lot of nationalities at the hotel as well as English. It's a very family resort as well as for adults, very safe. The sea is warmer in August. The main beach outside the hotel is cleaned every day we noticed and is well kept. You find some small fish sometimes swimming round your feet in the bay when you swim. There's lots to do at the hotel, bike riding, tennis courts, tours round the island, kiaks etc, as we did. The sea is so clear so you can see the bottom no matter how deep you go out. Dubrovnik is a great to visit. Only downside to hotel is that there are only four ferries a day to dubrovnik with the last one returning at 8pm. But this wasn't a problem to us, especially as the hotel has put on extra boat services which you can use if you pay a bit more. Thoroughly recommend this hotel - not at all disappointing.
