I book at deluxe room but when I arrived there was an overbooking and I was given a dark room without the promised view, a cancellation occurred and I was transferred to a beautiful bungaloo with a garden, which over looked the back water. I had a lovely 3 nights there, it was just the break from work I needed very tranquil.
This is a good hotel with great restaurant, clean and well kept, only drawback is has terrible humming sound I am the room, I don't know if it's the gen set or anything else, and secondly there are many restricted to photography areas as it is next to the cochin port... It feels little uncomfortable as there are boards of the notice every 10 feet, otherwise it's good.
overall nice experience - starting from the welcome/easy check-in provided to accomodating our requests like boat ride, last minute room preference changes; patience of employees while using of swimming pool at the end of the alloted time, checking with us regularly for any needs when we felt in doubt regarding anything, smooth checkouts. Rooms were clean. Restaurant staff was very helpful considering we were 3 families with kids. We had the breakfast and it was delicious. the hotel staff was nice.
Outside, the trails of fairy lights on the glass frontage make the hotel look like a polished, international standard location. However the illusion was over once we got inside, we were shown to our room a "king suite" which was a dark, dingy vestibule room with a desk and 4 chairs (no window!) leading to the main bedroom with en suite. Upon entry, the smell of stale cigarette smoke mingling with damp was quite overpowering, when we complained (we booked non-smoking room) a cleaner came round and sprayed some air freshener, when requesting a room change we were told they were full. There was evidence of water leakage on the ceiling in the corridor leading to our room, hence the damp smell.
The bottle of water provided in the room was unsealed (whilst some hotels provide filtered water for guests in thermos-style flasks, this was a dirty, used bottle with a brown, thumbed-over rim. Hardly international standard. Luckily we only used this room for post and pre flight accommodation and for one night midweek. The towels weren't changed 1x in 2 weeks, neither was the bedding (we had to ask!) and then they attempted to charge us for this!!! The staff were most unhelpful, surly, poor English. Many of them were just sat about on stairwells all day. Breakfast was also a sorry affair, dirty cups, plates and questionable hygiene. Upon check out they then also tried to charge us for the "room service" cleaning and breakfasts which were meant to be included. TRULY DISAPPOINTING!
We had a lovely week at this typical Taj luxury hotel. Service is amazing and the attention to detail is great. The seafood restaurant in the hotel is exceptional and is worth a visit even if you decide not to stay here.
