“Great, except for the pool and gym. Free wireless on second floor lobby.”

Everything about this hotel was great. Until I tried to work out at the gym. Be aware, the gym charges you for usage. I never read this or expected it. I've never been charged to use a hotel gym, especially when I'm a guest. Also, they wanted to charge me separately for using the fitness room and swimming pool. That's just way too cheap in my opinion. Other than the gym and pool situation, everything else was great. Free wireless internet on the second floor... in your room you need to pay.

Area recommendations

If you are doing business in Kobe, you might want to pick a hotel closer to the city. This hotel was a little far for our suppliers to pick us up everyday.

“Modern hotel, location not convenient”

Modern hotel, good service. Rooms have a beautiful view over the Osaka Bay but they are a little small. Good Sports Bar that closes early though (11pm). Location is far away from anything in Kobe (except the Fashion Museum). Train ride from and to the hotel from downtown Kobe requires 2 changes and about 20mns. Taxi rides are expensive from the bullet train station Shin-Kobe.

“Kobe Bay Sheraton”

I stood in this hotel for 9 nights. It is situated on an island and one needs to take a Rokko Liner, an automatic, driver-free, elevated train to the main land. The liner was a fun on itself, it was a short distance to the mainland and the trains were coming very often. One needs to take another train to reach the downtown of Kobe, but this was not a problem, as the transportation in Japan is extremely convenient. The Rokko Island where the hotel stays is nicely planed, pleasant to stroll, has a lot of green areas. The hotel itself has very helpful personnel. Comparatively to other Japanese hotels, Sheraton was rather inexpensive. I did not take a breakfast. I was a bit too much: 28,- Euro for a buffet. There were many possibilities to get authentic Japanese food anywhere for less money. The hotel was clean and I got every day a Japanese paper in English, so I could stay informed. There was a CNN in English available. From the experience in other hotels, I know that this is not always the case in Japan. All over, Kobe Sheraton was a pleasant experience.

Area recommendations

Himeiji and Nara. Japan is not everywhere nice. One needs to travel far to see the nice authentic places. Kyoto, Nara and Himeji are not far from Kobe and could be reached during the day excursions. There are nice places in these cities, which the tourists would enjoy. Kyoto Museum of Traditional Crafts "Fureaikan", featuring an exhibit of traditional handicrafts and a gallery presenting traditional industries via video was a remarkable experience. In Kobe itself, the Museum devoted to the 1995 Earth quake and the people who volunteer there was unforgettable.
