“Excellent Samui Resort with great service”
Location: quiet and secluded area, Thongson Bay. Away from the craziness of Chaweng Beach. Downside is you need a taxi ride (400-500 Baht) to anywhere else from the hotel, including going out to dinner to any other restaurant apart from the 2 in the resort. Resort/Room: pool villas are new, spacious, modern room with a plunge pool, great bathroom. The resort has beautiful gardens and 2 swimming pools. The infinity pool by the beach is the nicer and busier one. There is a gym and massage by pool (10am-5pm) is a FRACTION of the cost of the normal treatment (300bht vs 2900bht!) Internet/Wifi: No longer free wifi at the resort, even in the lobby area. Ludicrous 400 baht/hr to 2500bht for a week. They excel in everything else but they still resort to gouging their visitors for internet access. Many cafes/motels are giving free wifi, charging 400/hr is highway robbery ala Western hotels! 2 computers in the lobby you can use for free internet access. Restaurants: 2 on site. "The View" serves mostly western type food (not particularly good) and the more upmarket "Kaoh San thong" Thai restaurant which makes better food. prices in the resort don't include the 10% service charge and 7% government tax so factor that in. If you want the ocean view and good Thai food at much cheaper prices then check out the quiet restaurant next door to the resort (just walk to it from the beach). Staff: This is the star of this resort. Super friendly staff, keen to say hello and help out.
“Absolute Paradise - You must stay at Melati!!!”
My partner and I recently stayed at the Melati Beach Resort and Spa for 5 nights. We had a pool villa room which was the epitome of luxury! The staff couldn't do enough for you, always so courteous and attentive. Happy hour by the pool was great fun with complimentary pop corn too! The food was delicious, freshly squeezed juices in the mornings, freshly made eggs to your liking. Restaurant looks straight out to neighboring Koh Phangan island, stunning crystal blue waters and palm trees scatter the beach front. We had a bit of trouble with mozzies in our villa (but being in Thailand this will happen wherever you go!), I asked for some more mozzie repellent from reception and then next minute one of the staff came to our villa with a maintenance man who sprayed our villa with pest spray! Now that is service! We were both so impressed with the facilities and the staff at Melati. If you want true indulgence with a personal touch, where you are truely welcomed and made to feel at home then I cannot recommend Melati Resort enough - it was the best luxury holiday we have ever had and I want to say a huge thank you to Ivan, Tien, Noom, Rain, Bee, Blue and Ann in particular who made our stay so perfect. We will definitely be back one day!
“Probably one of the best on the island”
Stayed in pool villa which was excellent especially with baby as living area was a seperate space albeit still connected, Resort itself was immaculate and service better than all others i have been in across thailand - every single worker you pass you get hello, smile and greeting, and they are all working hard to help. When our booking was up i spent an entire day looking at other 4/5 star resorts across the island and none came close - sala samui was disappointing in comparison, shasa is like an american hotel (although lovely if thats what you want) and the others were superficial. Granted i didn't look at the super high end Six Senses, W, Four Seasons, etc but then Melati isn't competing with the on price point. I am now in Tongsai Bay pool villa which is incredible but again, a slightly different feel to the resort and at a different price point. Regarding the Melati i would thoroughly recommend - its a clean, excellently run resort with a modern yet traditional feel combined with top notch 5 star service. If you are looking at Sala Samui vs Melati (as i was), Melati wins hands down in my opinion....enjoy!
“Beautiful Resort and fantastic staff”
Stayed for 8 nights and could have stayed for longer!! Fantastic resort, staff are great, very poilte and hospitable. Big buffet breakfast each morning with a huge range on offer. Beach side pool is massive and overlooks the beach, great views. Had serveral massages at the resort which were also great. Nice and quiet, resort is gated with Security from the main roads. Definately recommend to anyone thinking of staying here. Very well priced too
“Sophisticated Yet Relaxed Luxury”
Excellent choice for sophisticated yet relaxed luxury with a magical touch of Thai hospitality. Having stayed on the island several times it was nice not to have to deal with Chaweng Beach, though we did take the hotel shuttle in for one night of entertainment and dinner at Red Snapper - Excellent. Also had a great meal at Ocean 11. However, the Friday night buffet is not to be missed at Melati and be sure to book in advance as it sold out when we were there.
“this is not a five star hotel!”
we booked into the melati, hoping to have a fantastic honeymoon/ however we were rather disappointed by the quality of the hotel. the air con (in our room)never worked from the start of our stay tilll when we left for a far superior hotel (the langham place). we both felt the general cleanliness of the resort was poor and there was constant work being carried out throughout thr hotel. on a plus note the staff were lovely, however they could do with some extra training. samui is a lovely island and the people are very nice. however shop and look around before you rush into booking a resort. there several fantastic hotels. we particularly enjoyed the langham place!
“Relaxing Samui”
Very nice resort aprx 15 mins drive from Chaweng Beach. Good if you just want to relax and don't bother going out in the evenings. Taxi pricey to/from resort compared to Bangkok prices. Beautiful surroundings and spacious rooms. Pool staff friendly but struggling with basic English at times. Free wireless internet in the rooms worked fine. All staff very friendly but didn't make the best cocktails. Overall experience was very good.
“"Loves Thailand"”
We were wowed from the very first moment we arrived at the resort. Our room was absolutely gorgeous (pool villa) & the entire resort was very relaxing. Melati staff are incredibly friendly & courteous. The Melati Spa is to die for, i have never felt so invigorated after a massage before, the entire experiece was fabulous. The restuarant is a little overpriced but we expected that since its a 5 star resort. The only problem we had was annoying teenagers that were staying with their parents, who spent most of their time screaming & being rude to the bar staff in & around the beach pool. So to get away we headed to the ancient pool, where its quite & there is always lounge chairs available for sunbaking. Overall we would come back only if we were after another relaxing holiday. We did get bored after a while, so if you after hotel close to Chaweng Beach this hotel would not suit you.
“Too Young - Needs better management”
My boyfriend and I had a lovely stay, yet the hotel, still being quite young had its problems. We were forced to pay a compulsory charge of AUD$275pp for a gala dinner on NYE that didnt include alcohol and was a buffet of burgers and hot dogs... The entertainment was also cancelled on the evening and relied on guests to do drinking competitions and dance on the stage.. The food throughout the week was just OK, F&B management need to do something soon because most of the people I spoke to were going next door to a dingy restaurant that smelt like sewerage to get a satisfying meal! .. Although, the pizzas around the pool are delicious!! However, apart from that, the staff are all very friendly despite not being able to speak much english, and the food around the pool wasnt nearly as expensive as other resorts. The resort is beautiful and the rooms are amazing, and housekept very well. The location is segregated from the rest of the island so you really feel private and relaxed. yet to catch a cab anywhere else, the hotel forces you to use their own car service which is $10 more than the usual cabs and not always there so you're forced to wait... It was a good holiday, but I dont think I would stay there again... not until new management takes over and irons out the creases.
“Very impressive rersort, total luxury, the stay was bliss.”
We hired a scooter from the resort for a reasonable price & I think this is a MUST if you stay at Melati. The resort is stunning & secluded & you need a scooter to get around & see all that Koh Samui has to offer. We had a "junior pool villa", very private & lovely. One night we ordered room service & relaxed & sipped drinks around our private pool & entertaining area. We got most of our drinks from the 7/11 about 2kms away on our scooter & stacked the mini bar up with this to save on $$. The resort isn't cheap, try to get laundry or anything else done outside the resort, on our scooter, we could get anywhere & do anything on Koh Samui. However, we saw scooters for rent cheaper in Chaweng & other major towns. All in all a great stay & I will book another trip on expedia.com.au
