Nice hotel if you don't want to stay in Kingston.

Posted 18-May-2015
My wife and I wanted to visit the Bob Marley museum in Kingston and we were staying at a resort in Negril. The trip to Kingston from Negril is well over a 4 hour drive so we stayed at the Grand Port Royal and traveled back to Negril the following day.The staff at the GPR hotel is very laid back. I don't have anything bad to say about it and out of 5 stars I giveb it 3 stars.

Convenient, pleasant airport hotel

Posted 09-May-2015
Pros: The bar, the outlook, and a very pleasant burger for dinner - contrary to previous reviews, we found the service to be good. Hotel room was very clean
Location: Only hotel close to the airport, quite far from town.
After reading previous reviews, we were a bit concerned that this hotel would be unpleasant, but we were pleasantly surprised! Beware: the same road name also exists in town - but this hotel is about 15 or 20 minutes passed the airport on the airport road.

Not in Kingston proper

Posted 13-Apr-2015
Pros: Location & fact it was quiet!
Cons: Service, restaurant, & cleanliness could be improved. Bed was clean, floor needed mopping due to sea air & sea sand.
Location: On peninsula, across bay from Kingston proper. Good " local" seafood restaurants (2) nearby, not much else to do but watch birds, airplanes, & water.
The hotel is close to airport (but still costs $20 taxi) & it is on peninsula, not in heart of city, so it is quiet. Hotel is somewhat run down, old & worn, & restaurant is Very Slow, but food okay. For watching birds or relaxing it is adequate. Grounds big & nice! Pool looked a bit cloudy, but they were cleaning it later. If you want to be near "the action" or want something nice, look elsewhere. For our purposes ( birdwatching & walking around) it was good. Pool ok, but not really a beach.

"whatever can go wrong will go wrong"

Posted 11-Apr-2015
Pros: very quaint and small. It was an old fort or armory of some sort. I like that you can still go in sea water (salt water pool)with no beach available.
Cons: EVERYTHING! major renovation, adult experience staff needed, better basic accomadation eg.water iron and board, activities needed, transportation to town
Location: Its the only hotel in the area. One restaurant walking distance(sea food). no beach. No structured charter boat to take you to lime keys beach.
We arrived at the hotel at 11:30pm since our flight was delayed four hours. Desk attendant stated kitchen is closed therefore cannot help us with meals. No bottled water available, no microwave, no refrigerator, went to bed without food or water. Water can only be purchase when the bar is open and get your ice bucket filled also. Had only snacks on the plane earlier that night. Next morning(Sunday)breakfast awful, the bacon not properly cooked, the fruit looked as if it was dried out in the refrigerator, the coffee was cold and the food did not look appetizing.Decided to go to the pool and found it green, pool attendant stated there is some kind of leakage and he just poured chemical in it. No beach but a salt water pool which was dangerously slippery(lot of moss). no activities available. My husband inquired about a massage and was told that the spa is under renovation, someone made a joke that it wasn't built yet. Went to the only outside restaurant for lunch/dinner(delicious).There are lots of poor houses and garbage in the area.Reported to the desk next morning that the air in the room doesn't work. Returned that night from been out all day to find that the air was not fixed and the room smelled like sewer with lots tiny flies and mosquito, remade the bed with the same dirty linin(my lipstick still on it) we had to change rooms at 11:45 that night. we ended up in a 2 double bed room. The towels are grey instead of white(they blame the dryer as they apologize)The staff are kids

Beautiful Caribbean Hotel

Posted 01-Apr-2015
Pros: On the ocean. Peaceful.
Cons: The pool
Location: Gloria's restaurant. Didn't have time to look for anything else as I was only there for one night
Check in was quick even though we were early. It's a large open feeling property with ocean front. I loved eating meals next to the water. The room was big and open as well. Also there's a famous seafood restaurant (Gloria's) just a 4 minute walk away. Very affordable and very authentic good quality food. The included breakfast was simple, but made well.

Nice and clean hotel close to the airport

Posted 30-Mar-2015
Pros: The location to the airport and the safety.
The hotel has a nice atmosphere with a pool and a small beach. This is really close to the airoprt. The inclusive breakfast was good. The restaurant has a nice view on the port and kingstown. Just take it easy, service maybe a liitle slower as you are used to.

Needs a ton of work

Posted 20-Mar-2015
Pros: The location
Cons: Major renovations needed
Location: Glorias is a must ! The fried fish and bammy is awesome !
This hotel has potential but requires a ton of renovations before that potential can be realized. The location is very convenient and close to the airport. The included breakfast is simply fruits (2 slices of watermelon and a slice of cantaloupe), egg and bread. The didn't have butter, they ran out. The beds were very hard, small and uncomfortable. The AC sounded like truck and kept us awake all night. Luckily we were only there for 1 night, I could not have tolerated another night. The only positive comment I have about my overnight in Port Royal was our dinner at Glorias. That place is amazing and the fish is outstanding.

No solution for our claim

Posted 13-Mar-2015
We had a very bad experience in this hotel. The staff were really inexperience. The rooms are renovated and clean but there is no possibility of having natural ventilation but the air conditioner. The bar didn't allow to leave the tab open so it is necessary to pay every day separate. We were ok with that but the last day we leave the hotel to go to the beach and because the hotel didn't offer a save place we leave our lougage in the office as it was suggested by the receptionists and we get our money stollen from our bags. Five days later we haven't receive an answer from the hotel.

Hotel is old and run down! In need of renovation.

Hotel room was dirty! Plain white and boring no mircowave. I called in advance to have a taxi pick up from the airport, there was no taxi!
