“one night stay in kilkenny ormond”

HOTEL VERY NICE,FOOD GOOD AND OVERALL SERVICE,BUT NEVER SLEPT A WINK VERY LOUD RUMBLING NOISE COMING FROM NEARBY,WE WERE NEAR LIFT ALSO A SOFT DRINK MACHINE OUTSIDE LIFT.I COMPLAINED BUT REPLY WAS I WILL PASS ON MESSAGE.

“Two Stars Too Many”

Most of our review can be found relating to the various issues surrounding check-in, the poor communication with reception, and the uncomfortable rooms themselves. However, there's a fair bit more to be said about the "Ormande". Be warned: the free included breakfast is in fact a full irish breakfast buffet. Yet, the staff seems to interpret "buffet" to mean, "no service provided." It took a fair bit of work to get the included tea, coffee, and toast. And this disconnect seems to capture the spirit of this establishment. For example, the staff was unable to provide clear directions to any of the sites, but were happy to provide a standard map, without street names, and an "x" marking an undisclosed location. There is a general sense that the staff may be unhappy working here, and that makes the stay for a guest much less pleasant. For another last example, we just abandoned efforts to make use of their alleged "24 hour room service"; the room service attendant was unable to communicate the "soup of the day" or "sandwich options". To be completely fair-- the gym and the pool are lovely. And in the end, the staff did upgrade our room to something inhabitable, despite making us feel that the request was irrational, unfounded, and in bad form. They do seem to be busy with weddings; perhaps they are not as used to the everyday traveler. There do seem to be a number of very nice hotels down the street. Good luck.

Kilkenny City Centre, is a fine place to stay, and very walkable.

Must see

While Kilkenny Castle is lovely from the outside, the tour is not as good as many of the other castles we've visited in Ireland and the UK. We'd recommend seeing the castle from the outside, and skipping the tour. The "Black Abbey" is worth the walk, and very interesting. The "Roethe House" is skippable, unless you have a real interest in Kilkenny County history. We had a good meal and pint Keytelers Inn. And we also had a nice tea and coffee at "The Mug Shot". Frankly, the "mug shot" was the highlight of the day, great service, great food, great coffee/tea.

“Früher war alles besser!”

Ich habe jetzt in April 2011 das Hotel ausgesucht weil ich bereits im 2008 dort war...damals war noch Boom-Time in Ireland. Jetzt wird anscheinend gespart. Das Zimmer war nicht sauber ( Haare und Haarklemmen am Füßboden, klebrigen Nachttischen), das Bad so schlecht gepflegt das es beinah Egelhaft war! Die Dame an der Rezeption sprach so schlecht Englisch das sie am Telefon nicht zu verstehen war! Das Hotel war Leer und wir haben trotzdem die Zimmern bekommen die am weitesten weg waren vom Lift u.ä. Dagegen war das Frühstück nicht schlecht und der Preis in Ordnung! ( aber wer will ein Schmützigen Zimmer haben???) Einzigartig :Im Pool im Irland schreiben die immer noch eine Badekappe vor ( € 3,50 an der Rezeption) und im Zimmer sind die Trocken Föns in einer Schublade im Zimmer versteckt ( Bauvorschrift!!)
