“Just a warning for anyone looking at this hotel”
This has got to be the worst hotel I have stayed in ! It is not at 4 star hotel and I will give you the reasons ! First when we checked in they gave us a non smoking room and 2 single beds for me and my wife when we asked and booked a smoking room and double bed ! The receptionist said nothing I can do as we don't have any smoking rooms or double beds left in the hotel ! This we found out later was a lie and they moved us to a room with the double bed and smoking facility - but only after talking to the manager ! Then when we get to the room it was horrible ! Dirty - unclean - old - basically falling apart ! I even found poo on the quilt when I went to get into the bed ! The bath was White but with brown stains - and the bin was full of rubbish from what must have been the people before us ! Hotel is very difficult to find and up a large hill - which was never made aware to us ! A 4 star hotel should have atleast a comfy bed - ours made the loudest noise just sitting on the end if the bed - giving us the worst night sleep ! We left the hotel a day early as it was so bad and when checking out early the same receptionist as when we arrive gave us both attitudde and was very rude ! " oh it's you 2 again ! " was our welcome to reception ! So - if u can avoid it stay clear and use a better hotel ! Not even worth the little money they ask for ! I will try and upload pictures !
“Similar to the Hotel Rus.”
President Hotel, my first stay there. It is right next door to the Hotel Rus where I usually stay. The exterior & lobby look impressive and new, but when you get to the room floors, you will think you passed through a time machine. Room: small and cramped, beds are poor (typical here), wireless internet was virtually useless. Work desk/area is small & cramped. I guess they think if they fill the room with cheap useless furniture, the room is worth more $$. Mini-bar in room is usefull after you find the local store. Just hope you don't have a noisy neighbor. Breakfast downstairs was less than average but edible. Location, a short walk to the main street and many restuarants, shopping, etc. Maybe 1 mile or less. I preferred the local TGI Fridays restuarant. Service staff are nice & friendly, and helpful if asked for assistance or something. ATM in the lobby, car rental on-site, gym, restuarant and bar. Taxi service is good but they charge 400 grivnas or more for a ride to the airport. 200 grivnas is plenty to pay and a regular taxi will accept that or less. Typical airport taxi ride takes about 30 minutes. (FYI, DO NOT go the the airport Hotel Boryspil, you will regret it !!!!) I prefer the Hotel Rus as their breakfast is much much better!! but the President also fits my needs in Kiev. Otherwise, a typical upscale Ukrainian hotel at a fair price. You can easily pay much more for a hotel room. Enjoy your trip to Kiev / Kyiv, Ukraine.
“Not very impressed”
This hotel was an odd mixture. The foyer looked very modern, yet the bedroom we were in was quite tatty. The quality of service seemed to vary greatly between specific staff - some very efficient and helpful, and some quite out of their depth. Obviously an overall quality control problem. The location - at the top of a hill - was a problem. It was an un-sign-posted walk down the hill to reach the Metro;and obviously quite a hilke up in the other direction! So this hotel is really a taxi-only place. There is nowhere to eat within walking distance, other than the hotel itself (but that was not at all bad). And it was too far to walk to any places of tourist interest.
“A place to avoid”
Pillows had a smell of sweat from previous guests. They were covered with clean pillow cases but you could still smell the human sweat in them, through the pillow case. You could not draw the curtains to darken the room. Carpet and interior completely deteriorated and in need of replacement and/or maintenance. Leaky faucets. This place is no more than a 2 star hotel.
“Loved Kiev”
Really enjoyed my stay ,hotel was good rooms looked a bit tired but I think Hotel is in process of refurbing rooms but good value for money
“Location Location Location”
The reason for my visit was a tournament at the convention center. The hotel was located within walking distance from the hotel and from the main area of town. The hotel was good. I had requested two beds in the room and that is what I received. The beds were single beds (small). The hotel has a gym that was free from 0700 to 1100 after that time frame it cost money. Breakfast was good both in the restaurant and in the lobby restaurant. Breakfast was expensive by Ukraine and US standards ($20+). The hotel is in renovation, the renovated rooms look good nothing special. Staffs at the front desk have a good grasp of the English language. They did provide two bottles water in the daily. A/C worked great.
“Weekend at Kiev”
I've stayed at the President hotel over weekend. It has good central location. It takes about 15 min to walk to central Kiev's square Maidan using central street Khreshatik. The announced **** (4 star) definitely does not correspond to reality. I would grade it by 3 star the most. However, very good offered price for room during the peak season makes this hotel attarctive and I will use it again and will recommend to friends.
“Don't go there!”
Usually, I am too lazy to comment a hotel but this one was such a bad surprise that I really would like to warn everybody. The rooms are really shaby which has been confirmed by the staff - approx. 20% of all guest complain. The room service brought cold food (no salad) and to be honest, I don't know how they got 4 Stars. This classification is not comparable with western (and southern europe, the US or South Aftica. I am disappointed.
“Hotel President - practical, big, Soviet style hotel”
The staff were great throughout, and Kiev is a city I recommend. It is a lovely city on a west bank hill with generous and kind people. All hotel conveniences are quite expensive at Hotel President. The downstairs restaurant served a great Borscht soup off-the-menu simply because I asked for one. There were an assortment of men from mainly Turkey in the lobby bar during the whole visit, accompanied by the usual 1-5 women offering their services by sitting at tables and being available "for a chat". Although my room was non-smoking, most hotels in the Ukraine still allow smoking in lobby areas, which combines with Stalinist architecture to create a very retro feeling. I do not know what the alternatives are, but I tend to prefer either [1] small and personal hotels, or [2] large very fresh hotels. So on that bass, I do not recommend Hotel President, although my visit to Kiev was a pleasure. I was especially moved by a quiet service to remember the 10m people starved to death by Stalin in 1932-33 (their holocaust), and the catacombs in which Christians have avoided persecution also quite recently.
“Could need an update to the rooms”
The room was decorated with old wood furniture from a different era. Once you take the elevator from the lobby into the hallways to the rooms, you can smell the upholstery and wood that should have been replaced long ago.
