“Extreme noise pollution”

Bog standard '70s tourist hotel let down by its location - yes, it has a sea view (just) but it's at the end of town where Crete's hip young things go out to chastely kiss (hem hem), make a frappucino last four hours and rev their underpowered cars and mopeds till all hours. If this were the UK, Germany or Holland there would also be fights, window smashing and sirens, so it's not all bad. IT'S JUST VERY NOISY. Apparently they have gigs in the rickety wooden amphitheatre thing over the road in summer, so that must improve things no end. At the moment it just plays host to very barky dogs and sportive cats. The hotel itself is just about okay, though a lack of safes in the rooms is a pain.

Traveller's tip
Avoid the two self-agrandising tavernas on the harbour, called Apostolis I&II, and go for the one in between called Cafe Vasilis, it's miles friendlier and more authentic

“Closest thing to an American hotel I could find.”

Other than the bed being uncomfortable, this hotel was great. After changing my reservation from another hotel that was absolutely terrifying, the Kriti Hotel was an oasis! It's equivalent to an American Holiday Inn...the hotel staff is all very friendly and willing to help in any way possible. Overall excellent experience!
