Surprise birthday treat for my husband

Posted 30-Dec-2014
Pros: Location, cleanliness & courteous staff.
Cons: Only one thing we noted, was the quality of the sandwiches at lunchtime we felt they were below standard, the bread in particular.
Location: Beautiful walks, Kersney Abbey is a nice place to visit.
On arrival we were welcomed by a very friendly young lady on reception. After check in we were shown to our suite which was beautiful. We had a light lunch of sandwiches which were ok, in the bar area. We had friends join us in the evening for a 3 course a la carte dinner which was superb. Our waiters were very knowledgable of the menu and took the time to explain the choices. The New Zealand wine comes highly recommend too! After a good nights sleep in the comfortable bed we had a very nicely cooked English breakfast. The Marquis is an expensive treat but well worth it. The food is top class and what we liked was the portion size is just right. We would highly recommend to friends and family and we look forward to a return visit.

Fantastic hotel with friendly staff

Posted 17-Nov-2014
Pros: Friendly welcoming staff and nice décor - very convenient to the Channel Tunnel. Breakfast excellent.
Cons: They needed to check the cleaning better - nothing major just attention to detail on some things.
Location: Very convenient for Channel Tunner, Dover, Folkestone, Canterbury and Blue Water shopping centre and Ashford designer outlet shopping!
We stayed at this hotel for just one night as a stop-over before catching the Eurotunnel the next day & we were thrilled we chose it. Unfortunately we were very delayed due to horrendous traffic jams on the M25 so we missed dinner so our stay therefore felt a bit rushed, we didn't spend nearly the time relaxing we had anticipated. However, when we finally arrived, the first thing that was obvious was the friendly cheerful welcome from the staff that made us feel comfortable & at ease straight away. The room was lovely, nice decor & everything you needed inc flat screen tv and tray with water, usual tea, coffee, hot choc & biscuits etc. The bed was made up with really nice linen & was super comfy. We had a few drinks in the bar before retiring - it had a lovely atmosphere, it was late as other diners were finishing their meal & staff were preparing to clear and get organised for the morning. The décor in the bar was nice - light and airy, modern & traditional. The manager even popped over to chat, sympathise over our awful journey and offer sandwiches if we wanted as we hadn't eaten, we were too tired & just had crisps but the offer was kind nonetheless. Next morning we more than made up for it with a fantastic breakfast - nice hot strong tea, full English with top-notch quality ingredients and plenty of it. The morning staff were a totally different bunch to the ones from the night before but were equally lovely - we will definitely return to this wonderful place.

Great hotel, excellent food & good location

We used this hotel the night before our cross channel journey, as close to Dover. Beautiful small village hotel in a lovely location. The staff were welcoming, and accommodating with our late arrival, and early get away. The evening meal was excellent, as was the selection of beers and wines. The bedroom was in good condition, the size was more than adequate and good value for money. Would stay again if in this part of the world.

A little gem near the ferry port of Dover.

A pleasant , small but friendly hotel/bed, dinner and breakfast establishment. All the staff were very polite, professional and would go out of their way to help. Interesting cuisine, not to a Michelin 1 star level but nevertheless copious and nicely presented to a good quality. The hotel is very conveniently placed between Dover and Folkestone, for the Channel Tunnel and Ferry terminals, in a small village closer to Dover. 10 - 15 minutes easy drive to the ferry and not far from Dover Castle. The village however seems to be a main thoroughfare between the two towns and can be quite busy and a little noisy at peak times, commuting to work, school runs in term time, etc. The place knocks spots off similar small hotels and B&Bs. Access to the hotel is a little awkward but parking is ample. The GPS finds it easily.

Rekommenderar alla att ta sig hit. Toppklass på maten, personalen och rummen. Gästvänligt, ombonat, modernt och oslagbar omgivning. Underbart, vi kommer definitivt tillbaka!

Nice stay shame about the temperature

Lovely stay at the Marquis, unfortunately our room was extremely hot and the air conditioning did not work. A fan was provided but it did not have the desired effect. Would have been nice if they had moved us straight away to another room. Lovely food and great services though!
