Fantastic hotel with friendly staff

Posted 17-Nov-2014
Pros: Friendly welcoming staff and nice décor - very convenient to the Channel Tunnel. Breakfast excellent.
Cons: They needed to check the cleaning better - nothing major just attention to detail on some things.
Location: Very convenient for Channel Tunner, Dover, Folkestone, Canterbury and Blue Water shopping centre and Ashford designer outlet shopping!
We stayed at this hotel for just one night as a stop-over before catching the Eurotunnel the next day & we were thrilled we chose it. Unfortunately we were very delayed due to horrendous traffic jams on the M25 so we missed dinner so our stay therefore felt a bit rushed, we didn't spend nearly the time relaxing we had anticipated. However, when we finally arrived, the first thing that was obvious was the friendly cheerful welcome from the staff that made us feel comfortable & at ease straight away. The room was lovely, nice decor & everything you needed inc flat screen tv and tray with water, usual tea, coffee, hot choc & biscuits etc. The bed was made up with really nice linen & was super comfy. We had a few drinks in the bar before retiring - it had a lovely atmosphere, it was late as other diners were finishing their meal & staff were preparing to clear and get organised for the morning. The décor in the bar was nice - light and airy, modern & traditional. The manager even popped over to chat, sympathise over our awful journey and offer sandwiches if we wanted as we hadn't eaten, we were too tired & just had crisps but the offer was kind nonetheless. Next morning we more than made up for it with a fantastic breakfast - nice hot strong tea, full English with top-notch quality ingredients and plenty of it. The morning staff were a totally different bunch to the ones from the night before but were equally lovely - we will definitely return to this wonderful place.

A little gem near the ferry port of Dover.

A pleasant , small but friendly hotel/bed, dinner and breakfast establishment. All the staff were very polite, professional and would go out of their way to help. Interesting cuisine, not to a Michelin 1 star level but nevertheless copious and nicely presented to a good quality. The hotel is very conveniently placed between Dover and Folkestone, for the Channel Tunnel and Ferry terminals, in a small village closer to Dover. 10 - 15 minutes easy drive to the ferry and not far from Dover Castle. The village however seems to be a main thoroughfare between the two towns and can be quite busy and a little noisy at peak times, commuting to work, school runs in term time, etc. The place knocks spots off similar small hotels and B&Bs. Access to the hotel is a little awkward but parking is ample. The GPS finds it easily.

Nice stay shame about the temperature

Lovely stay at the Marquis, unfortunately our room was extremely hot and the air conditioning did not work. A fan was provided but it did not have the desired effect. Would have been nice if they had moved us straight away to another room. Lovely food and great services though!

Truly 5 Star

We have just enjoyed a fantastic stay at the Marquis. From the moment of booking in until leaving we experienced faultlessly polite and efficient service, and had one of what must be the best meals in the area. The prices might at first glace seem to be on the high side, but worth every penny: the room was very comfortable, and well thought-out, and the whole place exuded charm. We will certainly return.

Exellent overnight stop outside Folkstone

Posted 24-Sep-2012
Pros: Quality of the bedrooms and en suite, the staff and the best ever breakfast.
Cons: Nothing to say.
Location: Quite little village.
We stayed at the Marquis on our way to Italy via Folkstone, the hotels truly offers a superb start for those looking to head off to Europe either via the channel tunnel or ferry from Dovers. The bedrooms are large and exceptionally furnished with every consideration taken into account, the staff are all very welcoming and keen to ensure that your stay whether long or short is a pleasant one. We would also recommend the Marquis as an excellent place to stay for a short weekend break. In terms of food the restaurant is excellent it they offer the best breakfast that we have every had the pleasure of easing. We will definately be staying at the Marquis whenever we travel to europe again.

Excellent service and glorious food

Every interaction with the people involved with the hotel was positive, friendly and accommodating. It started with a lovely greeting from the receptionist to the highly capable sommelier.
