Closed Hotel
I arrived after a 6 hour drive to be rudely told that I couldn't have made a booking as the hotel was closed by a worker. there. Fortunately I know Folkestone and managed to book in at another hotel

Disgusting attitude
Arrived at hotel to be told it closed 5 days ago even though i received a booking/stay confirmation email 2 days prior to my stay. The owner basically told me there is nothing they can do and he is not going to give me a refund and slammed the door closed in my face whilst being very rude and using abusive language all the while we were stood out in the rain with no where to stay and not a bit of compassion from the hotel owner

Rubbish app
Check in staff clueless and didn’t explain anything.the room had a shower so would expect decent towels but we’re not more like flannels and had black fingers marks all over,no bin in the room and headboard fixed to the wall was hanging off do not recommend this place at all.We are no snobs and have stayed in low rating hotels but not this bad

We stay at the Carlton regularly due to price, location and the free car park at the rear of the hotel. It is the only hotel we use now when we visit Folkestone and happy with our stay

Terrible......denied access!!!
Never got there, an email was sent days before to check they would accept our cat, we received no reply, so turned up, after 3 days on the road.....WE WERE TURNED AWAY!!! Apparently an email was sent, but I don't believe that! We had to do our final 300 miles straight away and have paid for a room we were unable to use! We haven't been paid back yet either! Terrible service and communication!!!! Not at all happy! Will be leaving reviews so everyone is aware!!!!!

This is a very basic hotel, clean but dingy, had to ask for fly spray as the room had several flies in flight also my wife found some kind of bug in the bed. Never again

the stairs in the hotel are all sunken in so almost fell down them a good few times. the room was nasty, rubbish left behind bedside table from people before. bogey was on the bathroom door! and a towel and blue roll left in the shower. the control was sticky and dusty. the bed all hard and lumpy, the pillows weren't pillows but little bean bag type things. we also wasn't given a duvet and only had a blanket so woke up freezing in the night. went down on the Sunday morning to get a drink as there was nothing in the rooms to be told the systems aren't on yet. after saying I can pay cash, I got 2 cans of red bull and was charged £5 when on the cans it had £1.35 written on them I would never stay there again! even if I was on a budget!!!!

The property was very clean but could do with updating. The curtains in the room did not hang properly and there was no plug in the back sin in the bathroom. Breakfasts was light but adequate. The reception staff could be more welcoming and give advice. Overall good.

A rather tired Victorian building with steep staircases but I expected this from a property of this age. Our comfort double room was clean and the bed comfortable. We had a tidy shower cubicle with a good power shower. Nice bar lounge area with a pool table. If you want an up to date modern and newly renovated hotel this is not for you. Very friendly staff.

Ferry stopover
Hotel well situated but room was a bit tired. Lots of stairs and no lift. We were on the 3rd floor. Lounge and dining areas were freshly decorated. Ok for a stop over . Close to amenities for eating and shopping.

Excellent location and undoubtedly GREAT value for money. Free on-site Parking and the property is located right in front of the beach. However, there are many downsides on this property. The rooms are NOT soundproof even though the site says they are, which is misleading. And the property has some SERIOUS lighting issues that they need to fix. The room we stayed in was VERY dark. It had only one small bulb which was barely lighting up the room. There was a single lamp on one side of the bed which was worse. We could barely see anything in that low light and was frustrating and literally gave me headache. The corridors were dark as well. They really need to use some good lighting like other hotels do. Then it will look lot nicer. Other than that, can’t complain much as this is a budget hotel anyway. Decent lobby and bar. And staff were Okay.

The building is old. Dirty and smelly. Under staff there was one staff to man the reception and bar. It took over an hour to check-in. The breakfast is continental don't expect full breakfast. There was no hot water in the morning to wash apparently it happens frequently. Avoid at all costs. Not worth £5 a night. Worst hotel I have stayed in. A hotel from hell
