HOMELY AND FRIENDLY

Posted 13-Dec-2014
Pros: Everything
Cons: Nothing
Location: Near Dickens World, shopping, Rochester, etc.
Every staff member whatever their role acknowledged us with a smile. The breakfast was fantastic and the lobby was lovely for sitting and chatting, with different open fires in different cubby holes. The room was spotless and the bed seriously comfortable. We had a brilliant night's sleep even though I can be insomniac, and there were many Christmas functions going on in the hotel that night.

Bricklayer's wives

Posted 11-Nov-2014
This is not really a 4 star hotel. Apart from anything else the rooms are too small. The Restaurant for dinner was good. Service and food were good. Menu a bit limited. The breakfast buffet was acceptable. However the bar food generally was poor and the service at the bar was atrocious. I ordered a tuna mayonnaise sandwich (hardly exotic) which took 35 minutes to arrive and when it did the bread was stale. When I complained to the Duty Manager, she didn't want to know. She said she'd get back to me but never did. I think the problem is with the management. Too many (say 30%) of the hotel staff were `disengaged' The hotel boasts a `Spa'. This is a mistake. It simply gives the opportunity for overweight people to swan about the bar in dressing gowns. Not good. I believe there used to be a programme `Footballer's wives'. This was more `Bricklayer's wives'

Brilliant hotel

Posted 27-Oct-2014 on Hotels.com
We use the hotel as we have family in the area and it's location is perfect for us. the staff are all excellent and can't do enough for you. Rooms are first rate with extremely comfy beds. Superb choice at breakfast with everything you could possibly want and everything was well cooked and tasty. We didn't use the restaurant but the bar meals that we had were excellent. We are looking forward to our next stay in November.

flying visit

Posted 16-Oct-2014
Pros: proximity to the town, bit next to the motorway, although you would not know - no noise
Cons: roo was slightly musty on opening - aired maybe?
Location: near to where we wanted to be,
We were attending a funeral in the area and stayed overnight. it met all our expectations, bar food was very good, and I would recommend this hotel to others

Good service from the staff

Posted 05-Oct-2014 on Hotels.com
Fine, nice service from the staff, but the hotel itself is a bit of a tired offering. Restaurant food was particularly uninspiring given the high prices. Bar prices were also quite high for outside of the M25 and the bar is a bit of a corridor. There are some other nice nooks and crankys to find to sit somewhere quietly though.

Above average hotel at an average hotel price

Posted 25-Sep-2014
Pros: Room size and equipment. Leisure facilities
Cons: Room service. I ran out of characters in my review above. The last sentence should end "....when it arrived it was very, very dry.
Location: Motorway (M2), close to M20. Rochester (cathedral and castle). Chatham with its historic docks.
Very smart appearance throughout. Our rooms were larger than we expected for the price and well equipped. Typical mass-produced furniture but a bit more style than the plain square-edged alternatives at many hotels in this price band. Leisure pool complex is very good and free for hotel guests. Most of the time the pool is reserved for adults but there are generous timeslots when children are allowed in, so choose your time depending on whether you have children or want to avoid them. Loungers and chairs in pool area for guardians or spouses who want to stay dry and an adjoining coffee lounge with glass wall if you want to watch the darlings but keep your shoes on. Breakfast is the usual self-help system although the menu says you can ask to be served at table. The usual choices too: small selection of prepared (apparently tinned) fruit, cereals, small deli selection, pastries and cooked choices on efficient warmers, regularly refreshed and a wider choice of eggs to order. No fresh fruit, though. The hotel is close to the motorway and road network and only a short drive to a couple of neighbouring towns, but there is nothing nearby to satisfy the need for evening meals. Perhaps that is why the restaurant and bar seemed to get rather busy. We had not reserved a table and couldn't get a table at all. Consequently we ordered room service which was very disappointing. It took ages to arrive - much longer than you would expect to wait in the restaurant itself, and when t arrived

Nice hotel but ask about events

Posted 23-Sep-2014 on Hotels.com
A very nice hotel with a great breakfast. A good location also. There are take aways just down the road as well and a big asda if you want to shop. The food looked good at the hotel. We had a dog and there were no dog bins anywhere. We also stayed very close to a room where events were held and music played quite late. Just ask if there are any events if you want to be placed away from the noise. Ocerall, a nice stay with a comfortable bed.
