Great view of the harbour!

Posted 21-Jul-2014
Pros: The view
Cons: Air conditioning?
Location: Wonderful base to tour from with easy access to the ferry and cruise terminals
Right on the harbour this was the old White Cliffs Hotel. The room was small and we did not get twin beds as requested. It was also extremely hot with only a fan to help. Off my list I'm afraid

Good vibrations and location.

Our 3 nights were pretty good. Old world charm of a fine hotel with excellent people on the front desk. Dining facilities were well appointed however, the menu could have been broader.

What's not to like ?

Pros: As above
Nice location easy to town centre and Dover Castle not far to ferry and train station. Relaxing views from bar. Staff friendly and helpful.

Out of their depth

Posted 03-Jul-2014
The staff are totally out of their depth in competent management of reception and room allocation. It was chaos in reception with people waiting and errors being made. We were put in the wrong room and had to pack up and move. The next room had a floor that was so crooked the bed was at an angle unable to be slept on. I had to complain to be moved. The hotel has one tiny lift, the floors are all uneven and it is not well run. Stay somewhere else before a cruise.

Contrasts

Posted 29-Jun-2014
Pros: The location was ideal.
Cons: I realize that the hotel is an old one, but I feel the floors on the fourth floor were unsafe in spots.
Location: The pier...close to shopping and an excellent seafood place right on the water.
We found the hotel's location ideal to walk around the pier area. Our late lunch was outstanding. Staff was friendly for the most part. We ended up on the fourth floor in a tiny, tiny room on a warm day. Despite having the window open, and thankfully a fan in the room, the room temperature was pretty miserable all night long.

Sunday 1st june 2014 1 room 2 occupents

Posted 04-Jun-2014
Pros: Its old world comfort downstairs in the bar area was great
Cons: Improve the ventilation either install air-cond or install ducting between the back and front of the building to allow blow through, update the website
Location: dover castle but beware £17.50 per person entry
MY biggest comments is the hotel is rather old which i like, but the rooms (we tried 2) were extremely hot (without the heating being on and it was not a particular warm day either) while the older members of my group didn’t mind this it would have been nice to be able to lower the temperature, and the hotel must know this as a standing fan was in each room. The parking at this hotel is around the back while that’s fine, but it’s not shown on the website and I had to ask about it and was given a car sticker if i had not asked i would have got a parking fine as it’s a public road at the font of the hotel. The option to have a bar meal, while the food was good the tables in the bar area were not comfortable to eat at as the chairs were either too low or the tables too high and while the restaurant I’m sure does not suffer from this I preferred to stay in the bar area.

Nice hotel but too noisy.

Posted 03-Jun-2014
The staff were lovely but the beds were barely made. Sheets never made it to the top of the mattress and disguised by large pillows. It was a quick stop over while waiting to board ferry. The walls are paper thin and the noise from other visitors was disappointing as sleep wasn't had.

Great position for beach and shopping

Pros: everything
Cons: heating , apparently we could have asked for a portable heater, this should be made more aware. In the bathroom a wall heater would be nice as april c
Lovely hotel will use again, only room could have been warmer, being April heating turned off, so bathroom freezing.
