“Very good hotel with budget price.”

Very nice hotel and friendly staff. Rooms are not very big but absolutely clean and comfortable. The street in front is a bit noisy, but we enjoyed our stay.

“Charming Hotel.”

Charming hotel in a good location. The beach across the road is very pleasant for swimming. To see the whole island, hiring a car is probably a good idea. Parking at the hotel is not a problem.

“A Home from Home”

Although the booking said no breakfast, one was provided in the form of fresh tangerine juice, varieties of granola bars, cookies etc, and endless coffee. Free. Room was on ground floor, clean, air con worked well, room was clean and tidy, and fresh flowers daily. Location was convenient, near Lihue, The Airport, and central for most attractions. Opposite is Nawiliwili beach park, and convenience stores. Can't really fault it. Enjoy.

Area recommendations

Smiths family Luau is consisted voted best on island, ten minutes drive, lots beaches, snorkelling, surfing with life guards, in both directions. Lots to do.

“reasonable good for it's price.”

The Hotel is very basic. The people are very friendly. The View is nice for the upstair toom. We only stay over night. The high light is the Mariat hotel near by, they server a great breakfast but very expansive.

There are some beautiful beaches on the island,unfortunately the weather did not cooperate very well! Still we made the most of what was offered and went to the beach a few times!

“Best observation point of Nawiliwili Harbor”

Fabulous. At first reluctant to stay in industrial harbor area, but turned out marvelous. Things to see: cruise ship tiptoe into teeny bay, Kauai rescue unit practicing helicopter out of ocean rescues, local football practice in the park. Desk personnel extremely helpful, lots of freebie support, boogie boards, sunscreen, read the paper. Condo unit exceptional, next to tennis court and swimming pool (caveat, regular hotel stays do not include this last.)

“We'll be back”

A great quiet and quirky little hotel - like Hawaii used to be before the big hotels moved in. Right on Kalapaki beach in center of all the action. If you're looking for luxury - this isn't the place. If you want a relaxing vacation at a clean comfortable place with a great staff Garden Island Inn is for you. Manager Steve makes sure everything is right all the time. Read reviews complaining about street noise - we stayed 8 nights and never experienced any noise issues. Courtyard with local music and tiki torches at night was a nice touch. A real gem. Give you a true flavor of Hawaii.

Area recommendations

Entire island of Kauai is small enough that you can take it all in. Hit the beaches and Waimea Canyon.

Dining

Avoid the tourist traps when dining. You can spend a lot of money and you'll get a so-so meal at the most advertised upscale restaurants. Great local food - Tip Top for macadamia nut pancakes with coconut syrup & LocoMoco, Shrimp Station for the best fresh shrimp, Kalapaki Joe's for shrimp & fish tacos. You don't really know an area until you've tasted their local foods - hotel restaurants don't offer this type of food. Ahi tuna sushi at Hanalei Fish Market and don't miss the daily farmer's markets for fresh tropical fruits and vegetables. Had an outstanding meal at the Beach House on the West end of the island. Ask store clerks and locals where to eat - they know! Hotel staff will always direct you to their restaurants or touristy places. Surprisingly, the Waimea Canyon Lodge at the far end of the canyon drive has very good food - worth eating there - Portugese bean soup and Kalua pork are excellent. If you go out to Spouting Horn and the guy with the garlic shrimp truck is parked along the road - stop and buy an order.

“I would go there again”

This hotel was within walking distance to the beach, restaurants and shopping. The bed was extremely comfortable. The staff and management were wonderful. When they learned that it was our anniversary, they put champaign and chocolates in our room. When we borrowed a movie from the lobby, they threw in popcorn. We really felt like they were genuinely happy we were there. Our room was a bit small, if I stayed there again I would opt for a bigger room but overall it was a great experience. If you are not looking for a resort type of atmosphere, and just want a comfortable room to come back to after exploring the island, this hotel is definately worth considering.

“GLP: Great Little Place.”

This little hotel was tiny but so accommodating with little amenities like being able to take out snorkel, fins, beach towel, beach chair, even ice chest, too, without signing out. Power bars were always available along with coffee at the office. Location couldn't be closer to shops, restaurants and the beach. Hawaiian music was aired throughout the day so you could chill out in the little outdoor courtyard. Art on the doors gave you the feeling that you were really on a vacation in the Pacific. Excellent place!

Area recommendations

Lihue is where the airport is located so we stayed in Lihue, but Kapa'a would have been an alternate place to stay as it is bustling with a lot of shops and restaurants. We stayed at a hotel close to Kalapaki Beach. It was an excellent place to stay...close to shops, beach and restaurants.
