Excellent location, ocean front room gives you amazing view. If you are on upper two stories you can leave your door open at night and listen to the surf just 50 yards away. Adjacent to two great places to eat (Trees and Hukilau Lanai) and Whalers General Store. Furnishings are tired, but work fine. Nice to have fridge, microwave, and ability to prepare simple meals in room or BBQ outside.
Plantation Hale was a very comfortable place to stay. It has a kitchen complete with full size refrigerator, stove, microwave and all your pots, pans and all your plates, bowls, glasses and everything else needed, you just buy your own food and your set. It has 2 flat screen TVs. One in the living room and one in the bedroom. Dining room table and chairs and couch. Also, a balcony with a great view with a couple chairs and table out there, or if your on the ground level a patio with the same. They have 2 pools and Jacuzzi's & Laundry facilities.
The staff is very friendly and if needed they can do a late check out for you if available.
The rooms are wonderfully clean, we had a standard with a king bed and were delighted that the room has a fridge. Continental breakfast, the fire pit and the beach on property made this a very cozy stay for 4 nights!
This is a great little hotel at a great price. It is basic and a little old fashion, but it delivered on all the things that are important to me: spotlessly clean, comfortable, great water pressure, somewhere to sit (other than the bed), a great view (and every room has a balcony), the hotel and surrounding area felt safe, and excellent location overall (there are two grocery stores, and multiple coffee shops and restaurants within a 5 minutes walk). The rooms have a good sized mini-fridge, a proper full-size coffee maker all the basic kitchenware you could possibly need (cutlery, plates, glasses even wines glasses and a corkscrew), but there is no place to cook in the room (there is a communal bbq outside)
Some of the limitations of this hotel are the following (none of these things bothered me, but for the purposes of a review, they could be deal-breakers for other people, so I'll include them.) There is no a/c, no tv and no phone. The ocean right in front of the hotel is rocky and not appropriate for swimming. Noise carries a bit from the hallway - if you are a light sleeper I wouldn't recommend staying on the first floor. The hotel isn't modern - e. g. the bathroom fixtures could use updating - but if you really care about bathroom fixtures you shouldn't be looking at a 2-star class hotel.
If you're vacation hotel priorities are "clean, comfy and good location" this is the place for you.

On the East side of the Garden Isle of Kauai between the historic towns of Kapaa and Wailua rests an oceanfront getaway like …More
I stayed in 1 bedroom kitchenette suite. Suite was spacious and comfortable. Nice pool. Only bad thing I can point out is they try hard to convince you to attend time share presentation when picking up parking pass. Resort is right next to the ocean but the beach is small and has course beach - not suitable for swimming or sunbathing but OK for walks. Lydgate beach is 5 minute drive away.
We were winging the room thing in Kauai and found his hotel on Expedia, price was right for a newly renovated room, the decor was stylish and having a brand new kitchen with the eating bar and stainless steel appliances was a bonus. The pool was quaint but very well kept and a pleasure to swim and suntan (very private). We were pretty much the only guest staying a the 52 unit hotel the reason being is the other half of the hotel is under construction and this is probably deterring other guest. We were gone most of the days so constructions wasn't a problem for us and with not many guest around we pretty much had our own little Paradise. When we return to Kauai we will definitely re-booked in the other phase which will be on the ocean view side.
The Outrigger has comfortable, upscale accommodations right on the beach. This beach is special: a small manmade lagoon for the little ones makes for an easy spot for families. You will find a large flat shelf of rocks which creates another natural lagoon area. This was our second visit. This time, the lagoon fed a little river that made its way out to sea. Quite an interesting spot which entertained our family for hours. A rare Hawaiian monk seal came ashore and rested right near the lagoon while we were there. Volunteers sectioned off a spot for her to rest. It was really a treat to see her and it didn't take away from our play area at the beach. The grounds of the Outrigger are lovely with tropical plants everywhere and lots of shade. The pool is roomy and with a beautiful view of the ocean. We have stayed in both a 1 bedroom and 2 bedroom and found them both to be quite nice. The 1 bedroom worked well for our family, having the kids sleep on a pullout sofa. I don't think adults would have been happy on the pullout though. A lovely breeze is present all the time so AC is not needed or desired. I felt that the kitchen could have been cleaner on this visit so I'm hopeful housekeeping will improve that. I still wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Outrigger. We will visit as much as we can afford it!
