“Our favorite KC " home away from home" for 15 years!”
Thank you for a wonderful stay! (Only suggestion would be to consider expanding the late night room service menu.)
“Rapheal Hotel was amazing!”
My wife and I went to KC for a weekend getaway and stayed at the Raphael. It lived up to the reviews and exceeded our expectations. The hotel is very chic, extremely clean, centrally located to shopping and restaurants, and the staff is incredibly friendly. Free valet was very convenient when we didn't want to walk, or wanted to have the car handy in the shopping district for offloading packages. Highly recommend the hotel restaurant, Chaz on the Plaza. Food was delicious (try the beef short rib) and if Travis is bar tending, have him create a drink for you.. He's a great mixologist. I had a cognac sling and my wife had a cucumber martini. We will definitely stay at this hotel again.
“a local gem”
No reason to stay at some anonymous chain hotel when this local delight awaits. Walking distance to the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art and the Kemper, as well as Jack Stack BBQ and Country Club Plaza. Pleasant rooms, pleasant staff, free coffee/tea and New York Times in the lobby. No attempt to nickel and dime guests with "service fees" and parking charges. This was my first trip to Kansas City, but staying here was a flawless highlight.
“Kansas City should be PROUD!”
The Raphael Hotel was just delightful! The hotel has charm and grace and is located in a lovely part of town . The service was great, as was the room. It was exceptionally clean. Whenever we walked into the lobby, there was fruit, coffee or a savory treat for us.... We enjoyed it immensely and would definitely recommend this hotel to our friends.
“You just can't beat "old world charm."”
We were greeted as royalty from the time the valet took the keys to the car to the helpful directions to the Nelson-Adkins Museum, and warm "goodbyes." Our room was spacious, with a view of the Country Club Plaza, the beds were so soft and comfortable, and the decorating was very restful and pleasing. We loved the dining room, with the cozy alcoves, and I have never tasted a better yogurt. The three plump berries, atop the compotier dish, were delicious (one mulberry and two raspberry), and I have never enjoyed a breakfast yogurt more. Friends had recommended the Raphael most highly, and we were not disappointed.
“Charming Historic Hotel”
If you love old hotels, this is a great place to stay in Kansas City! Very conveniently located to shopping and entertainment. Friendly and helpful staff. Repairs to brickwork and elevator are under way -- something you have to expect with a historic property. They always need extra TLC. We recommend nearby Jardine's for fun and the pork chops!
“Backsliding”
The Raphael is a beautiful older hotel that had fallen into some disrepair many years ago, but was restored beautifully just a few years back. Unfortunately it appears the honeymoon is over, and the old ways are reestablishing themselves. Check-in is at 4:00, which is highly unusual, especially for a small place like this. When we arrived at 3:45 they could not get us into a room until 4:15. Waiting in the lounge found a bartender too busy washing glasses to serve us. When we did get our "king suite" it had the bathroom at the foot of the bed, and was so small you practically had to step into the tub to shut the door. [Travelers tip; either get the smallest cheapest room or the Presidential Suite; everything in between is a bust, unless you crave a large dining room table.] The room we did get was right over the bar, great for band listening till midnight. We went down to the bar to join the fun, but the wait staff was in some sort of tiff with the management so we had to seat ourselves. To cap it off the woman at checkout was rude, made billing mistakes, etc. I went here (my 50th Birthday) because I like these kinds of hotels, and the location on the Plaza is great. The Raphael remains a great place, but I hope management refocuses on service, since otherwise there a lot of nice options in this area, and the way they are pushing prices ("we just raised our rates", said the checkout girl proudly...?) they'll be back in the soup in no time.
“Very Restful!”
We had a great overnight trip! A nice walk to the Plaza was just what we needed! Very helpful staff.
“Not a 4 star in my book!”
Maid service was not timely - we would leave for the day and the room was not cleaned by the time we returned in the late afternoon/early evening (2 out of 4 days). The first time I called the front desk and just asked for clean towels, explaining we were "missed" by housekeeping. The second time it happened, I noted this was the 2nd "miss" in 4 days which I considered unacceptable. I asked to get clean towels and the trash removed. The Housekeeping Mgr came up and asked what she could do (I had moved the trash can and bagged the towels into the hallway) - I asked her to remove and replace the towels ( not very complicated). Shortly thereafter, the maid knocked and asked what we wanted! Not my idea of coordinated guest service. Room was crowded for occupancy by 2 adults; bathroom very small. Restaurant difficult to access with a wheelchair. Elevator on our side of the bldg (which was painfully slow to arrive when it was working) was out of service 1 out of 4 days. Brick walkway in front and entry area to front lobby slippery with early snow - did not salt/sand or have absorbent carpet runner. Definitely not my idea of a 4 star hotel!
“satisfaction guaranteed”
This was my second stay at this hotel. I was impressed the first time and they have maintained their excellent facility and top notch customer service.
