“LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION”

I have stayed at this hotel several times to be within 1 block of the CC Plaza. The amenities are just - alright. The hotel itself has seen better days. It is really in the need of a major facelift. The carpets in the hotel common areas and in the elevators are spotted and very dirty. The rooms are as clean as they can be, as they have seen much wear and tear. Several of the rooms smell of moisture and mildew. There is free parking on premises which is a plus. There is a nice common area/bar in the lobby which is well done with hard wood and marble throughout. The staff is accommodating and friendly. The concierge level is a must if you stay here; it really is what sets the hotel apart from the others in the area. They serve light bites for breakfast, lunch and dinner everyday. They also have well drinks, beer, soda, water, juice and milk (white and chocolate) - all of which are complimentary. We have stayed at several of the other hotels in the CCP. This one is one of the best. We would stay here again but would like to see something done to really spruce up the facility.

Area recommendations

Consider traveling over to Zona Rosa for additional shopping and tons of restaurants.

“A fun stay, but not as nice as I would expect a four+ star hotel to be”

The stay was pleasant and the staff was very nice. When we checked in they asked us if we wanted to join the hotel priority club (free) and that bumped us up to a nicer room and later checkout time. The staff was very friendly and courteous. Usually, I won't complain about things like torn or dirty carpet or leaves on the rug, but when you stay at a hotel that bills itself as top-of-the-line you should expect a little more. Our room was clean, but it seemed kind of dingy. For example, I found some trash underneath our bed. I enjoyed the room and the nice view and the great location of this hotel, just a little disappointed in some of the little things.

The Plaza, downtown KCMO. ON the Kansas side, Overland Park, Leawood and Lawrence.

“Great experience”

What a wonderful way to celebrate my birthday! Our room was not what we had requested but the courteous staff took care of us and we had a gorgeous room with two bathrooms and two balconies. Live jazz in the elegant lobby was great fun and just a block from the Plaza shopping! Definately will be returning for another stay!

“Excellent Service/Great Location”

All employees we had contact with were over-the-top pleasant and helpful. There was a slight glitch in our reservation (computers sometimes don't deal well with my surname), but it was quickly resolved by the front desk. The bell service, porters, and housekeeping were gracious and responded promptly to requests, and the bartenders provided efficient, knowledgeable, and amusing service on a busy week-end evening. The only reasons I gave less than 5 stars in all ratings were the dusty light fixtures in our room and a few upholstery repairs needed on the chairs. The size of the room, amenities (spend the extra bit to get a room with a balcony), and location are all additional reasons we'll definitely return to this hotel.

Area recommendations

The Plaza area was a terrific location for a quick get-away with friends. We enjoyed being able to walk to restaurants and shopping, and the area is very pedestrian-friendly.

“Perfect location, perfect room, perfect service”

Trip was a weekend to spend time with my sister, we could not have been more happy with the hotel, we could walk to the shopping and restaurants we wanted, plus a lovely church. The beds and linen were very comfortable. Will stay there again next time we go

“Not great, not bad...just pretty good”

I picked this hotel for a get-away because it got between 4 and 5 stars on various websites. It was nice enough, but definitely not a 4 or 5 star hotel. I would rank it as a 3 or 3.5. It was clean. Condition was pretty good. Hallways--carpets, walls, woodwork, were the most dinged up. Beds were comfy and bedding was high quality. Bathroom was pretty nice, but small. I also expected more "extras" like higher-end shampoos, lotion, etc. There were a few small bottles of decent stuff, but not "special" stuff. Also, I expected free internet...they charged something like $11.99 per day. All in all, it just wasn't as special I had hoped or expected.

The location was one of the best...my daughters and I walked to the Plaza 2-3 times every day!

“Great Plaza Hotel”

The Intercontinental was formerly (I think) a Ritz Carlton; as such it has always had a strong pedigree. The Intercontinental continues along this line, and has done an excellent job of sustaining service while nicely updating the guest rooms. The lobby, lobby bar and sitting area still have the grandeur and dark wood, but the hotel itself does not seem dated. Location is excellent, a short walk to the Plaza.

Area recommendations

The Plaza is great fun, with good food and things to do; Nelson-Atkins art museum is about a half mile away, as is Oklahoma Joe's (KC BBQ).

The staff was very helpful, kind, and efficient. We really enjoyed our stay, and can't wait to come back! The room was very nice and clean.
