We really loved the location of this hotel. We walked all around Kona town from here. We stayed in an ocean front room where we could watch the dolphins every morning. The hotel bar has great ambience (open-air, great drinks, live music). The hotel room and most of the hotel in general needs to be refreshed. You can tell it used to be a grand hotel a decade or two ago! Overall, we enjoyed our stay at the Royal Kona and felt the price we paid was fair (it easily could've been doubled with a renovation).
Everything you need in a hotel on the Kona strip without the expensive extras. Staff is fantastic! They upgraded us just because they could. They are attentive, efficient, and answer numerous questions while demonstrating the spirit of Aloha.
After a very long day of flying, me and my wife were very pleased when we walked into our spacious and extremely comfortable and accommodating room. The next morning, we enjoyed a deluxe breakfast in an open lanai style room. And was treated with the presence of one of Hawaii's beautiful native birds. We definitively would stay here again. Thanks to the staff who was very helpful in every aspect. Patrick and Chandra Hubbard.
Wonderful, helpful staff....immaculate grounds......the best hotel view we've had out of 41 countries .......good location 19 minutes outside of town.....and 3 new grills by the beach......after 10 days we were astounded by how wonderful our experience was....more like a 5 star experience.
WE stayed 6 wonderful nights in room 320, what a view! The huge lanai is so close to the ocean it seems to put you right on the crashing waves(sometimes to loud!) with the many (9 counted one day!) green turtles. That was the best part of our stay at Castles Bali Kai. Probably the biggest complaint is no air conditioning in this 3rd floor, 2 bd, 2bth unit,. It was hot during our week and even though you could get an ok breeze flow through the unit ,you can't leave the doors and windows open all the time.
The King bed was very firm and not to our liking and although decor was tropical it was all a bit dated. The pool was OK right in the middle of buildings and you cant see the ocean, pool view consist of the front desk, elevator and parked cars, kinda lame actually. but we enjoyed the hot tub after a long day of exploring.
Kailua-Kona is the epicenter of shopping and recreation on Hawaii’s western shore. Big-game fishers delight off its waters, while shoppers reel in deals along Alii Drive. The Kailua-Kona area is a hiker’s paradise because many of its best beaches are accessible only by foot. Inland, the scent of coffee permeates the air as plantations harvest precious Kona beans. Nearby coffee farms open for tours.
