“"A small but clean and modern hotel in the middle of Kagoshima"”

The Chisun Hotel is a hotel block sitting above a row of shophouses facing the road. It is newly refurbished and the decor is modern and refreshing. But don't expect a phone in your room for room to room calls! The Front Office Staff were all very helpful with their limited English speaking capabilities. Checking in is a bit of a hassle as you can't unload the luggage in the front of the hotel but about 200 ~ 300 m away at a side lane. Parking is about 300 m back to the hotel. In summary, the hotel rates are not cheap but the rooms are newly done up and are comfortable, albeit a bit small but not as small as some other Japanese hotels.

Area recommendations
The Dolphin Park along the harbour provides a great variety of restaurant food priced very reasonably. The Sushi bar there on the ground floor is extremely good value. Taking the ferry to Mt Sakurajima was a very nice experience, though I regretted not driving my car into the ferry. One should bring your car to Mt Sakurajima to drive around the island. The Sengan Park was nice, but very pricey to enter - 1,000 yen/pax compared to only 400 yen to enter the Kumamoto Castle which had a lot more to offer in Kumamoto city.
