“Joliet Red Roof stole our pillows”
We stayed 2 nights at the Red Roof in Joliet. The inn was easy to find; the nearby Bob Evans Restaurant served a good breakfast. The check in was fine. However; the room smelled strongly of disinfectant. We brought 2 pillows from home. The first night was OK. When we walked out of the room in the morning, our neighbors had left a couple of empty cases of beer by their door. When we returned to the inn that afternoon, the pillows we brought from home were gone. In addition, there were no towels, soaps, etc. to be found. We contacted the hotel manager about the pillows. Neither the night staff or the morning manager could find them. This was our first stay at the Red Roof Inn. We won't be returning.
“decent place for the location”
The hotel was just okay. Not too terribly expensive, but the $9.99 daily charge for internet access was ridiculous. It's been my experience that only the fancy hotels charge for internet, and this is far from a fancy hotel.
“stayed at better”
door was still locked at 6am so much for breakfast
“If location matters most...”
If location matters most, this budget hotel is right by the Interstate. Okay if you're staying just 1 night. We requested a non-smoking room but were given two rooms that had obviously been smoking rooms - seems to have been all they had. Staff were very nice and tried their best to make things right. However, air freshener does not remove cigarette smoke. Room furnishings were old & damaged (deep cigarette burns in upholstery, etc), though new carpets are being installed. Very few amenities, e.g., no in-room coffee maker, no complimentary breakfast, a fee (!) for using the in-room safe, a tiny amount of shampoo in a packet (like a fast-food ketchup packet), etc. If you need these things or require impeccable surroundings, choose a different place or a different city. If you just need a place to sleep before getting right back on the road, and are not a fussy or demanding person, this could be okay. If you need a truly smoke-free room, probably best to look elsewhere.
“cheap stay”
Mattress were old and lumpy and the air conditioner vibrated so loud it drowned out the freeway noise. Good and safe location. Bob Evans was right outside the front door.
“Party Central - and bad maintenance, too”
I think I must have been in the midst of a wedding party or family reunion or something similar. When I checked in at 7 p.m., the parking lot was less than one third full. Sometime after 10 p.m., the party group arrived (more than 30 people). They were well-dressed, all ages and LOUD! It was a nice summer night, so they stood around on walked around on the balcony, having loud conversations until well after 2 a.m. Multiple calls to the front desk did some (but little good). The desk man said there was nothing he could do after I called the second time. This may have been an isolated incident, but it points out how the management handles situations like this. Other problems: the toilet was out of adjustment and would run constantly if not played with; the TV remote didn't work.
“Never staying here again!”
This is the second time I have stayed in this hotel, and the second time with major problem. My biggest issue is with the cards the use for keys. Each card only worked once, and I had to get the card replaced 4 times in 3 days. Last time I stayed there even they couldn't get the door open, and they has to break through the window! In addition, the rooms are tiny without even a table. Uncomfortable king size bed with thin blankets. And of course, the air conditioning works terribly.
“Hotel needs updating”
We found that there was a problem finding electrical outlets that worked. The sink counter area had no outlets that worked. On the wall there was a double outlet with one outlet working. The other outlet came out when you tried to plug into it. It is almost impossible to get ready with a hair dryer and curling iron with no mirror or counter to do this with.
“Not good”
The pillows were like a piece of cardboard. The light fixtures were falling off the wall, the lock on the door was broken, I felt very unsafe in the room. They did not have a blow dryer for me to use, I had to spend $20 dollars on a new one. It was just a miserable stay in all.
