“Overnight here between flights”

We've stayed at the Airport Grand several times. It is convenient to Tambo International; the airport shuttle shows up on-time; the staff is professional staff; the rooms are a bit small, but clean and have everything you need (I don't know about Wi-Fi in room) and the food is good. If you have time to waste between flights there is a mall within walking distance to pass some time. It is in the flight path to the airport, so don't plan on sleeping in, but who goes to Africa to sleep?

“Stay if you don't have choice”

The hotel is close to the airport and offer shattle service. However, the room is somewhat small and old.

“Not 4 star but adequate”

Although the Hotel was clean and tidy, we did not think that it was a 4 star rating. The staff we were very friendly and helpful and the dining room was good. Transport to and from the Airport was efficient and friendly. The neighbourhood was less than welcoming but because of the fact that we were flying in and out it didn't bother us. Our room had been freshly painted but was quite small and was at the back of the hotel. However because it was just a bed for the night it was adequate

“Great in transit airport hotel near JNB”

I was in transit overnight at Johannesburg Airport and stayed at the Airport Grand. It was not especially grand, but it was comfortable and suited me well. Dinner in the dining room was very good. The free breakfast buffet was terrific. They provided free lifts to/from airport and hotel. The hotel is close to the airport as the crow flies, but the drive took 15-20 minutes.

“Very convenient for transit”

Hotel staff were great and the (cheap) meals and service were terrific. The free airport shuttle is wonderful, especially as Johannesburg has a reputation as a dangerous city. Only minor drawback is that it is directly under the flightpath with planes coming very low overhead every few minutes. They cease at night so it didn't really worry us. Has a pool , separate bar and a great business lounge with computers. We stayed there 3 times as we transited South Africa. (Get them to book you a Soweto tour!) The staff were also very helpful in allowing us a late checkout after our tour got back late.

Area recommendations
Soweto tour. Very educational to discover the vastly different living standards evident in this one district of 5 million or so people. Your tour may help some of the poor of this struggling district. Make sure you see Kliptown; in particular SKY. Also see Mandela and Tutu's houses and the Freedom Square. Interestingly, the hotel staff recommended that we did not venture outside the hotel at night for our own safety and they have strictly controlled grounds.

“grand?”

Worked for me but I was very tired and my guard was down- staff all nice- but... bathroom pretty unsatisfactory- towels worn down to threads, tub not very clean, drapes looked like someone smeared ice cream or something on them...and on and on. Someone smoking down the hallway I guess because smoke was coming in to my room- I'll tell you it passed, but barely..
