“Uphill Both Ways”

The Dan Boutique itself was fine, if a little pricey, but the location left something to be desired. It was a 20-25 minute walk to the Jaffa Gate of the old city, half of it uphill. The hotel is isolated. There are no restaurants or shops anywhere near it. The restaurants/shops of the German Colony were another 20 minute walk away - and the walk back is uphill ! In the heat of July/August it would be a real inconvenience. The breakfast buffet looks quite impressive, but was somewhat underwhelming once you start to eat it. There is no hot food at Saturday breakfast. The hotel staff were very nice and responsive to any questions we had.

Area recommendations
We were primarily interested in the sights of the Old City of Jerusalem, so I would stay somewhere that was closer to it than the Dan Boutique. I had read that the Old City becomes a ghost town at night, and that maybe true at 11:00 PM or midnight, but there was still a lot of activity after 7:00 PM. Not much shopping and certainly no "nightlife", but there were enough restaurants open to get dinner/drinks (even on Friday night - go to the Christian Quater ) and we found the Western Wall interesting after dark. If you want dancing and loud music until the wee hours, you won't find it in the Old City, but there was enough activity in the early-to-mid evening to not feel isolated. You can always take a taxi to the nightlife if you have to have it.
Getting around
I did not realize that Jerusalem is built almost entirely on hills. Walking around the Old City, it seems everything is uphill. When it gets really hot, that can be something to consider if you are not a student/young person. Outside of the Old City, there are always taxis willing to take you places, but the expense can start to add up if you have to take them everywhere. The new part of Jerusalem has only buses and their routes and operating hours are not easy to figure out in only a few days. They tend to zig and zag around and unless you know the streets, it is sometimes hard to figure out where to get off - and where to catch the bus on the way back. Metro systems are much easier to use - well-defined routes with well-marked stops. They are building a tram system, but it is not open yet. Be prepared to walk. The old city is not big, but, as I said, your destination always seems to be uphill. Just take your time and enjoy the walk. In the end, it's actually good for you.

“Great Hotel”

This hotel was perfect for us. Great room, great breakfast and an exceptional value. We liked that it was more low key than the larger hotels. All the employees were very helpful and friendly (especially in the dining room). There is free parking on site but we found over Thursday and Friday nights that the lot was full. We were able to park across the street from the hotel on the main road which was fine although unexpected. Check in and out was swift. We will definitely stay here on our next trip.

“Hotel did not produce the impression”

Hotel is located for the journey on the automobile very conveniently, but for the foot of jaunt sufficiently far. Personnel are not very friendly - in the settlement into the anvil block it was necessary to await 3 hours, I two days requested to bring the second dressing gown into the number. Breakfast is outstanding. Harvesting in the numbers is good. Numbers themselves small - deluks is extremely small. The inconveniently located conditioner blows directly to the bed and it was necessary either to disconnect it entirely or to freeze at night under it. The regulator of conditioner in the smallest regime gave high wind in the small number. General impression from the hotel in spite of shortages good.

“Very nice and convenient location”

We spent three nights at the Dan Boutique in Jerusalem at the end of August. Given the prevailing temperatures, this is not the high season, so the hotel was not as crowded as it probably could be. We had a car and the evening we arrived we got the last spot on their private parking (which is very conveniently located at the back of the hotel and is secured). The hotel seems quite new, is in very good shape and generally offers very high comfort compared to other places we were staying at during our visit in Israel. The rooms are nicely outfitted, pretty large and comfortable, and service is also very good. Our room had "view on hotel's parking lot" but given the little time we were going to spend in the hotel we did not even bother complaining. Breakfast offered a decent variety of foods and the breakfast hall was large enough to avoid any hassles. The location of the hotel is also quite good, since the Old City is only a short cab ride away. However, do not that you will need to take a cab to most places, because there's not a lot happening within walking distance. Altogether, I would stay here again without a doubt because of the good quality/price ratio and decent location.

“Very good hotel!”

Nice and comfortable hotel. Very nice appointed rooms (bathroom could be better). Staff was very friendly and helpful, specially Michael, who was always ready to help and give directions. Great breakfast and free parking. Extremely expensive internet access. Good location, close to the old city.
