“An exceptional Hotel”
Whilst on business recently in Israel, I had an overnight visit to Jerusalem, and had an amazing experience at the American Colony Hotel. I had heard so much about this hotel, that I was excited to finally have the opportunity to stay. The furniture, and ambience all seem to relate to the buildings Ottoman history. The service was excellent, from the warm and friendly Reception staff (with a lovely drink to welcome me), to the restaurant staff, who seemed to go out of their way to make sure that I was happy with my meal. In the evening, it was lovely to sit in the Summer Garden sipping cocktails. Even though the Hotel is a former Pashas Palace (built in the 19C, according to the very nice General Manager who I met in the Summer Garden,), it has all the mod cons you would expect from a 5 star hotel (including free broadband internet all over the hotel). The rate seemed very reasonable compared to similar standard Hotels in Jerusalem. My only complaint, was that my room was slightly small. I booked a standard single room. Next time (and I can assure there will be a next time) I plan on upgrading to a superior or even one of the Classic Pasha rooms. The difference in price is not that much, but the rooms are much larger.
“Character and Comfort”
Service was excellent and the room was very comfortable. I will certainly use this hotel again next time I'm in Jerusalem. The great thing about this hotel, apart from all the usual things like good location and good food, is its character and history. The outdoor bar and the courtyard dining area are also very attractive. If you like your comfort and for a hotel to have character then this is the hotel for you.
“Different and definitely one of the most enjoyable”
This hotel is one of the best I've stayed in ( and I've stayed in a few in a lifetime of travelling!) Staff were friendly and very helpful. I upgraded to a larger room in the East House and it was great - quiet, nice balcony view of the garden, spacious, TV good, bed very comfortable Hotel location was excellent 15 mins slow and interesting walk from Old Town. The ambience of the whole place was the main thing. Period/Colonial. Historic. Atmospheric. Only slight downside was that the evening meal choice was limited. Breakfast was very varied and good. My trip to Jerusalem was good in all respects - view from `Mount of Olives especially uplifting. The Hotel lived up to the expectations I had formed from others' recommendations
“A beautiful classic”
Lived up to expectations - a truly beautiful boutique hotel. Service was good and thoughtful, and the overall look and feel were good.
“Good hotel but some flaws”
Warm welcome and room fine. Free internet access in rooms. Excellent breakfast. Lovely gardens. Gym small and well used, but clean. Good meeting place for drinks in (dark and smoke filled) cellar bar. Service not always good (had to ask 3 times for coffee in lounge) and seemed to lack enough staff in Val's brasserie (asked twice to place order and waited 30 mins for sandwich). Swimming pool being dug up during visit (March 2010) but told it will be replaced by the summer.
“Excellent hotel within walking distance of the Old CIty”
Excellent hotel with friendly staff and in a great location.
