“Perfect Location”
Stayed for 4 nights in an executive double room, Monday to Friday, at the beginning of July 2011. The Pomme d'Or is centrally located in St. Helier within 5minutes walk of the main shopping street, the bus station, the tourist office and the maritime museum. If you stay here, you do not need a car at all. There's a taxi rank outside, but best of all use the buses, which all seem to start at the modern bus station across the road. The room looked out over the rear of the hotel, not a pretty view, but it was quiet and had everything we needed. One night the air conditioner in the room broke down and the staff straightaway offered us another room for the night. In the end, we took their offer of an electric fan! The problem was fixed next morning. We ate 3 or 4 meals in the downstairs cafe (overlooking Liberation Square) and thought the food was fine. Breakfast (included in the rate) was help yourself with a good choice of fruit, cereal and cooked items, which were all well presented. Overall, I would rate this a good 4 star hotel with friendly and helpful staff. I had some business in the financial district which is also close by and for me this was the best place to stay in St Helier. I would definitely go back.
“Fine centrally located hotel”
Very nice hotel, with excellent location. Staff most kind and friendly. Highly recommended.
“Been before...going again!”
There are few holidays which begin within 15 mins of touching down. The bags are ready to collect before you have time to turn round. We were picked up in the hotel and had the kettle on in less than half an hour. The hotel is quiet, clean and comfortable. Staff are all very helpful and pleasant. Nothing was a bother. Ideally situated for the bus station (which you can't hear) and two minutes from the main shops. Lots of bars and restaurants close by. The only complaint....nothing to do with the hotel...was that the streets may ave been swept, but they needed a very good wash. Go and enjoy.
“Convenient location”
Excellent location, friendly service but not best pleased with 10 a.m. check-out.
“Third Trip to Jersey, Third Stay at the Pomme d'Or”
An excellent hotel! We've been to Jersey three times and every time we've stayed in the Pomme d'Or. The staff have always been helpful whenever we have needed something. The buffet breakfast can really set you up for the day and the hotel's location (a two minute walk from the main bus station) makes it an excellent base to explore from.
“a very nice hotel,in a very nice area”
the hotel was very nice, staff were very helpful, and minibus was on time for arrival and departure, hotel could not be faulted in any way, nice room and lovely out look
“Perfect hotel as a base for exploring”
We arrived very early at the hotel and luckily our room was ready - the staff were only too happy to check us in there and then, which was such a relief after an early start. The room was perfect, clean and comfortable and most importantly in July, air-conditioned. Yes there is street noise, with windows shut and air-con on it is not a disturbance to sleep. Ultimately you are in the capital city of this island - you expect traffic and people to make a noise, the trade-off is that you have great travel links, (the bus pass during the holidays is a bargain for mooching round the island,) bike hire is easy to find and reasonable, and the harbour is on the doorstep. A lot of restaurants are a short walk away. The hotel buffet breakfasts are so varied we were spoilt for choice. All-in-all a great hotel to use as a base for exploring the area.
“Weekend away”
The Hotel has a great location for catching the buses to explore the Island. I suspect that Friday and Saturday nights could be a little noisey if you are in a room overlooking the side street. For the quick break especially in the week its ideal. For more than two nights (if you want things a little more peaceful ) I would suggest looking outside the town. St Helier is a working port and your stroll on the prom after a meal is a short distance away, but thats the trade off. The breakfast and meals we had were good and generous since they are buffet style and its down to you.
“OK, but not brilliant”
I was "upgraded" into a very small room in which the decor had been updated, but the update had been limited to the decoration. The bed felt as though it had been there for some time and the limit of the update in the bathroom seemed to be the replacement of a tile border with one that didn't soften the look of the original tiles below it. I can't comment on the food - my simple room service breakfast contained what I had asked for and was delivered on time. The room was quiet (looking onto a service duct), but the hotel is in what can be a noisy part of town. The area is, however, convenient for the night-life, shops and most businesses in St Helier
“"Food was great"”
The food that we had at the hotel was great and I would recommend that you try eating there. The staff in the restraurant were very helpfull and they would serve you if you wanted them to. However our trip was to visit family and one night we return back to the hotel just after 11.00pm and the doors were locked which was fine as we were let in, we got some drinks at the bar and after a while I decided to go out for a cigarette and this is were it all went wrong, when I went to go back in I was stopped by a member of the night staff who then would not let me back in as I didn't have my room key, I explained the card was at the bar with my husband, which the reply I got was "residents only" whilst jumping around in front of me trying to stop me coming back in to the hotel, so I explained again where the card was and walk around him whilst he was still jumping in front of me, he chased me to ask for my name and room number which I replied with the info. I can understand to a point that they need to make sure who is coming into the hotel, but I was not impressed with the attitude. If he had been on the front desk where he should of been he would of seen me walk out of the hotel as it was not that busy. The bed in the hotel room was passed its date, if myself or my husband moved in the night it felt like you were in the middle of the ocean in a little boat bobbing up and down, seasick or what (no it was not a water bed)...it was not good. Other than that our stay was fine.
