"Very Good Hotel on the Edge of St Helier"
Stayed one week at the Hampshire Hotel in July 2015. Went with modest expectations, but ended up very pleased with our stay. Staff extremely friendly, polite and helpful. Room (Premier Double) a good size and well-appointed, with tea and coffee making facilities, TV etc; bathroom fresh and bright. Importantly, both room and bathroom were well-maintained and very clean. Minor problem with shower reported in the morning, fixed by the time we returned, so full marks for efficiency there.
Breakfasts very good, with full English included, but note hefty surcharges (c. £6-8 per head) if you want an omelette, eggs benedict or similar instead. Used the restaurant twice for evening meals, food and service on both occasions excellent.
The hotel is located in a mainly residential area 15 minutes’ walk from the centre, with only an infrequent bus service (every 2 hours) although the stop is outside the door. Alternatives are available on a parallel road a few minutes’ walk away but, in general, you need to be prepared to walk to and from town.
The hotel is of a colonial style, and heavy wicker furniture features in both the public and bedroom areas which, depending on individual taste and preferences, may or may not suit. There is a pleasant terrace and well-maintained swimming pool at the rear.
Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would happily go back to the Hampshire again. We would have no hesitation in recommending it to others.
