“Fantastic views and Cheap rooms”
Being part of the centre for trips on the Athabasca Glacier, the hotel has stunning views of glacier and surrounding mountains. It is situated half way between Jasper and Banff so it is a good point to stop. We took advice of others who had stayed here and stayed the night so we were in the first group on the glacier the next morning, thus beating the crowds. Only point is that the only place to eat is the restaurant. You can buy reasonably priced meals, although some are expensive, and the view is superb as you watch the day fade and the changes it brings to the glacier. There is nothing else to do at the hotel. The room was large and well maintained and the price was excellent. Thoroughly recommend.
“Spectacular view!”
Well run hotel. Rooms are very comfortable, spacious and clean. Glacier view rooms have an amazing view to wake up to. Hallways and rooms display beautiful artwork of surrounding mountains. Staff is not keen on early check-ins, so if you're early, head to Banff or Jasper for a bite to eat and a quick look around. This is a surprisingly lovely hotel in an amazing location.
“Nice stay in”
I like this hotel even if no cooler no pool.
“what a view”
i was expecting less for my money but got more the view was amazing the location magic this is a must stay place if you are going to see the glacier. it gets even better when the day tourist leave and you feel like you have the mountains to yourself
“The Only Place in Town - but it's good”
I have been to the Icefields dozens of times and camped at Wilcox down the road. This time I decide to stay at the hotel (it was mid October, very snowy out). I was really surprised at how large my room was, and nicely outfitted, very clean. The restaurant is ok and about 10% more than Banff - but given the location it's worth it. This is a great time to do photo shoots .. sunrise around 7:30 AM and sunset at 6:30 PM so you don't have to get up too early, or stay up late.
“Bring food!”
Hotel room was nice with a good view - no complaints here. However, the hotel had a restaurant and cafeteria attached with no competition so they doubled all the prices. (1 hour drive to nearest competing restaurant) The food was average at best, and the prices were ridiculous, even if they are the only game in town. We ended up leaving the area early just so we could eat lunch at Lake Louise as opposed to here. I already had been hosed keeping the family fed for for supper and breakfast, and the food had been leaving a sour taste in my mouth.
“Buzzing noises!”
Buzzing noises ever 15 mins or so throughout night which isn't great for a light sleeper! Also food is expensive and being that there is nowhere else around to eat you are stuck if you don't take a picnic! Complained about noise and the fact the room wasn't entirely clean and light bulb was out, when we checked out in the morning but didn't even get a sorry.
“Can't beat the Scenery!”
The mattress really needed to be replaced in this hotel!.....The staff in the dining room made our stay...they were extremely courteous and helpful...food was very good...... Our experience with the Columbia Glacier was that Brewster definitely has expertise in the tour aspect of their business and does not appear to have the same priority or importance for their hotel business. We think Brewster should put the same attention to detail in their hotel business, as they do with their tours. .
“Great stay right at the Glacier !”
Nice suite design for a larger family (sleeps 6). Very comfortable beds except the pull out (but kind of expected). Staff service is great. Restaurant prices are reasonable however we did not try the food as we brought our own. Great location if you are a glacier fan (right across the Athabasca Glacier !!). Also, star gazing is amazing since it is in the middle of the mountains with nothing else around....I would recommend the stay to anyone who has not been at the Glacier !!
“Beautiful scenery! Internet and steady hot water please!”
Great location right across the highway from Columbia icefields in Jasper National Park--that's why we chose it. There are no other hotels or services nearby. This is the only option. So you take what you get. There is no wireless or internet (so can't upload or email those beautiful pics!), the hot water and water pressure is unreliable, the faucets in the sink only stay on for 5 seconds, the food in both the restaurant and cafeteria is overpriced, the hallways feel more like a train or bus station than a hotel, the hotel front desk is hidden in a corner so that you think you are second rate compared to the tourists who are buying tickets to take the tractor-tread equipped buses that traverse the glacier. But if location counts, this is it! Go for it! You wake up to breakfast in the overpriced restaurant--but you can't beat the view over the icefields! Where else can you wake up to a view of a glacier! Location, location, location!
