“Great week in Mexico”
The hotel was extremely nice and the staff made sure we had everything we needed. They would get cabs or make reservations for us any time we asked. The complimentary breakfast was surprisingly good as was the hotel restaurant. The snack bar also had very good and very cheap food the guacamole was fantastic. My only complaints would be that the beds weren't comfortable and their no elevator. It was 12 stories to our room!
“Great stay at the Sotavento”
The Captain suites are nice and large. Our view was amazing from our private balcony. Great location on La Ropa beach yet still pretty close to downtown. Be ready for LOTS of stairs!
“Very good huge ship of a hotel”
Built many years ago, as a oceanlijer it seems. Very interesting. Great location, good beach access, great for the money. Will come back.
“Great location - ok hotel - great people”
We had a 4 day stay at Sotavento in Zihua as part of a 2 week holiday in Mexico. We stayed in the Captain's Rooms (the only ones with air conditioning). We didn't feel like we really needed it but it was nice to have anyway. The hotel is quite old - 40 years old I think - and it is starting to show it's age even though our room is one that was recently renovated. We also didn't realize when we booked this hotel that it was such a steep climb down to the beach and pool... do this few times a day and you will definitely sign up for a great massage down at the beach... for approx. 300 pesos you get a 1 hour massage, including the hot stones and a mini-facial... very nice! We tried a few restaurants around this hotel and found this hotel's restaurant food to be superior to anything in the area... especially Intrawest's awful fare - ugh! Try their chicken soup... we tried it everywhere in Mexico and found this one to be the best... a complete meal in a bowl! Couldn't understand why this place was not busy??? Beatrice (Betty) served us breakfast and a Spanish lesson every morning - great smile and service. The only downside for me were the very uncomfortable pillows... note to self... bring pillow from home when traveling! Some investors are trying to convert this hotel to condos... if this actually goes through I would definitely return to rent a suite here as it is such a beautiful, peaceful beach... and they will have elevators by then!!!
“Is not a good choise.”
The hotel is very cheap, but is very far of the other beaches. I dont like the rooms. There is NO TV in the room and no A/C. The people at receptions was not so nice.
“Extraordinary View - Good Value”
This is an old hotel that has been reasonably well maintained. The room was large and the furniture adequate. The ceiling fan and free flow of air through the inside area provided a fresh atmosphere (some rooms are air conditioned but that was not a priority for us). The terrace was was huge and had the most spectacular view of the harbor, town and surrounding hills. It was so impressive that we invited our friends, who visited for the day from a cruise ship, to join us there for much of the day. The restaurent was good and prices at or below comparable places in town. The staff was friendly. Free wireless internet was available in the comfortable lobby area. The hotel is built on a steep slope down the hillside, and no elevator service is available. Stair access to the lower levels, pool and beachfront is good. This is not a hotel for handicapped guests. The price we paid through Expedia (as compared to the advertised rack rate) made this a good value place to stay.

Zihuatanejo, Guerrero, Mexico: On the Pacific Coast of Guerrero, Mexico, the city of Zihuatanejo has worked hard to retain its village look and feel. A brick-paved beachfront promenade runs along Playa La Madera and Playa Principal to the pier, and all beaches along the bay are safe for swimming.
