“Ecstacy in Ixtapa”

Capella Ixtapa is one of the best tropical resorts in the world. The room are large and have private edgless pools offering views to die for. The staff is well trained and there to serve. We met an eccectic group of people from around the world who were very successful and entertaining. I highly recommend the resort.

We visited town but next time we would just stay at the hotel. Why leave paradise.

“Excellent resort! Top 100 'Must Visit' places.”

Excellent resort with first class features. No expense spared right down to the faucets in the bathrooms. Each room is more like a private residence then a nice room. You can relax or 'mingle' with your spouse on your patio in complete privacy. Also every room (including patio) comes with spectacular views of the ocean. The service is excellent too. If you want to find a perfect place to retreat with someone special this is it. I have been fortunate to have visited some of the finest hotels/resorts/inns in the world and this is firmly inside the top 100.

Area recommendations

Be sure to leave the resort and visit Zihuatanejo. Although you are in Mexico, have an Italian dinner at Zi Restaurant on Escenica La Ropa road. It has incredible views of the town of Zihuatanejo at night. Also if you want to have authentic Mexican food try Tamales y Atoles Any in the center of town. Not a fancy tourist spot but great food! The resort set us up with a wonderful horseback ride on a beautiful beach that you may want to experience. Finally my wife enjoyed swimming with the dolphins which they have in the city.

“The best hotel EVER!”

We stayed in Capella Ixtapa 7 days. We just need to say something: THEY READ YOUR MIND!!! The service is incredible, super kind. The hotel is beautiful, very peaceful, very clean, full of exquisite mexican details. The food is delicious, the hibiscuis margarita is awesome. If you want to try the best tequila, just ask Victor (terrace restaurant), he will recommend you the best tequila for you!!!. The spa is a little bit small, but very comfortable and clean, with an amazing smell. They give you a lot of free things (beverages, fruits, water). Our personal assistant (Christian) was very patient and kind!!! We fell in love with Capella!!

We went to "Mercado de Artesanias" in Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo. You can buy handcrafts very cheap.

“Incredibly relaxing”

The Capella Ixtapa is a beautiful hotel. The staff were extremely friendly, the service great. We never left the hotel. Great food and drinks. A different tequila to taste every night in the library. Chips and guacamole with beer delivered to our room every afternoon to enjoy on the patio overlooking the ocean.

“A Bargain at Twice the Price”

Literally, I've stayed at similar quality hotels for almost double what I was charged at Capella Ixtapa. The staff was extremely pleasent and attentive, with only the occasional and minor ommission. The quality of the facility iteself would be on par with that of a Four Seasons or Six Sense - near perfection. And the small boutique nature makes it perfect for couples looking for a quiet and relaxing stay. A couple of tips, their private beach is very small, rocky and quite unswimable, and your private plunge pool while nice to have was heavily clorinated and we didn't end up using it - rather we went to the hotels large infinity pool and lounge which again because of the hotels small size was quiet and relaxing. If you have to have a sandy beach their is a couple just a short path away and the hotel will loan you bikes and locks if you want as well. If you have the extra money to spend - get the deluxe room because their room patio's have more sun - but it shouldn't be a deal breaker for you. While Capella isn't "right next to" anything (except a perfect view that is), Taxi's are dirt cheap and hotel will call one for you whenever you want to go somewhere. The next time the we need some relaxing R&R with great predictable weather we're heading back to Capella Ixtapa.

Area recommendations

The Hotel Strip in Ixtapa - higher end shopping and dinning. Old Town Zihuat, still functioning little fishing village with smaller shops and local restaurants. Everywhere we went we felt completely safe to walk around (even at night) - not like Accapulco, etc.

“Very Nice, but could be better.”

Based on the current offers, this resort is very well worth the price. However, don't be disillusioned to think it is in the status of a Banyan Tree or Rosewood Mayakoba or Las Ventanas, Esperanza and/or One & Only. It could be, but it is not. I suspect much of that is due to the fact they have cut back on staff, as have many of the resorts in Mexico lately. If you have not been to the top resorts, this place will knock your socks off. If you don't mind having to ask for things several times and you are very patient...the view and the rooms are a great experience. If you go....take the time to use their bicycles to ride down to Playa Linda and walk on the beach..it is a very pretty ride and we felt quite safe...I did see more automatic weapons over our 4 days than I have seen in a gun show :-) Also, take the time to explore Ixtapa and walk around and see what they have to offer and also go to Zihua ($16 cab ride). The people will gou out of their way to welcome you to Mexico and they work very hard to please. Also, you have to try the Chocolate Ice Cream! It is a local product and it is the best I have had since the ice cream truck used to drive through my neighborhood 50 years ago :-)

“Unbelievable experience. Can't wait to go back.”

We loved the views and private pools. So much nice details and courtesies. Outstanding service. Very private and quiet. A little bit expensive in meals and drinks but it's compensated with all other amenities.

All year round. This area has a very nice weather all year round.
