“Right on the bay”

Having stayed at a hotel outside Zihuatanejo last time, we really enjoyed being close to the centre although obviously the beach was more crowded. The room had plenty of Mexican character and the view from the terrace, jaccuzzi and all, was breathtaking. The food in the restaurant was quite good, a mixture of Mexican and international, and the setting, under a huge white canopy, was a joy. The only problem we encountered was that the safe in the room had no instructions and queries at Reception were met with "you enter your own code" but they could not tell us how to set it. It eventually turned out that the safe was faulty and it was replaced - all a bit time-consuming. The service generally was smiley and efficient. Lovely pool with a curved slide which even adults can have fun with!

“needs work!”

This is a beautiful hotel in a top hill overlooking at one of many Bays in Ixtapa. There are lots of trees, lush vegetation and flower all over the place. Our room was very nice with a full view of the ocean, and a large balcony that included a huge Jacuzzi. The staff was friendly and helpful. The problem like with many things was on the details. I killed an enthusiastic roach on the first day in the room, on the second, room service failed to deliver the right items and left unattended the food tray outside in the corridor for a full day. The televisions are from the 1990's, with available programs to match. No music in the room or anywhere else for that matter. To get to the restaurant and worst, back to your room, you need to navigate a few hundred steps, some of them rather in a steep slope. The water on the beach in front was rather ugly and unappealing to get in; but nevertheless, the view was fantastic. For the right price, I still will recommend this place.

“Would rather keep Brisas a secret!”

From the moment we checked in, we fell in love with Brisas Del Mar! The view walking into the lobby is spectacular and being offered a free beer during the check-in process was an added bonus. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. Our room was ready, clean, and the bed and bathroom were decorated with beautiful flower displays, which was done each day the room was cleaned, and for turn down service there were candies left on the bed. All rooms have beautiful views overlooking the bay, and the views improve the higher up you stay. We had a Jr. Jacuzzi suite on the 3rd level from the bottom. Yes, there are a lot of steep stairs, so be prepared for that, and if you have mobility problems then this may not be the most suitable place for you. Brisas provides both wireless service and a small air conditioned room with 2 computers, but the wireless can be intermittent at times. Best service is on your balcony or by pool. We only ate at the restaurant once (for breakfast) and the food and service were great. We just chose to try all the different restaurants throughout Zihua. If you are interested in taking tours, talk to Carlos!!! He's amazing and very knowledgeable about the area. The location for us was perfect as it provided us with a nice 10 minute walk into el centro either along the seawall or along a couple of streets. It was the best 2-week vacation we've had in a long time and we will definitely be going back to Brisas del Mar next year!

Area recommendations
We spent the majority of our time in town and only went to Ixtapa once. We preferred the quaintness of Zhiua rather than the commercialization of Ixtapa.
Dining
Eat at: Bistro del Mar (at Brisas del Mar) - a higher end restaurant, Don Memo's - good food and friendly, Any's (pronounced Annie's) - best Pozole soup in town!, La Sirena Gorda - wonderful breakfasts, Valeria I & Valeria II (both on the beach) - for food or a casual cerveza. Of special note....eat breakfast and see if Monica is offering cooking classes at Patio Mexica (just down the hill from Brisas del Mar on the corner). The chilaqiles are AWESOME!!!

“Z-What ?”

We noticed most of the tourists were Canadian. The word on the street was that US citizens were afraid to go to Mexico due to violence revolving around drugs. We found this not to be the case and in fact there was a heavy police presence both on foot and in vehicles. We found it to be safe walking around day and night in populated areas. However, I would not venture too far off the beaten path at night.

“Gorgeous hotel, great location, amazing views. Can't wait to return!”

We stayed in the family suite (#10) with our two young kids. The room was quite large with a king size bed and two couches which were converted into individual beds for the kids. The room had everything we needed. The AC was really powerful and cooled the room instantly. What can I say about the hotel that has not been said before? It's gorgeous. There are greenery and flowers everywhere. The staff is very helpful. If we needed anything - it was immediately addressed. Everyone at the front desk spoke excellent English. The pool area was never crowded. The lounges were very comfortable and the beach towels very soft. Most days we played on the pool slide and had lunch from the Bistro below. The burgers and club sandwiches were very good. The pastas were excellent too. The prices at the Bistro were a bit more than you would pay in town, but the quality of the food and the convenience of having it delivered to the pool area outweighed that for us. The hotel has Wi-Fi, but it does not always work in all the rooms. There are two computers you can use along with a pool table, ping pong table, a nice selection of books and a small exercise room. The location of the hotel can't be beat. You can walk to town either along the beach promenade or along the street. Either rout takes about 10 min. Don't feel like walking? Taxis are only 25 pesos each way anywhere in town and back. We felt safe walking to and from town along the neighborhood streets in the evenings.

“well worth looking at”

everything was exactly as pictured on the website. very clean and going through a lot of upgrdes to the infrastructure (new hand rails on the stairs, etc).People at the hotel were extremely friendly and helpful. The onsite restruant was a bit of a letdown due to prices being a tad high and portions a tad small. There are 2 other reasonable restruants on the beach within 100 yards of hotel and there are plenty others a short 5 minute walk away. Pool area was very nice and clean. Read others reviews and you will realize that there are A LOT of stairs at his hotel. I think all rooms have a fair size terrace with a view of the bay, and hammock for afternoon naps. there is a small deli/snack store across the street. No kitchens in jr.suites just a tiny refer and a coffee maker. We are planning to go back next year.

“You have to stay here!”

Brisas del Mar was a fantastic hotel. I recommend staying during the off season. It is very quiet except for an occasional "Wake Up!" from their resident parrot, Carola. You definitely get your exercise by walking up and down a lot of stairs but it is great exercise! You will need it after eating all of the fantastic seafood that Zihua has to offer. The town is a 10-15 minute walk away and well worth it for the shopping and eating experiences! The hotel is right on the beach and even if you don't go in, it is a great time watching families and guys playing soccer on the beach. There is a tiny store located across from the hotel that sells beer, soda, water, and some snacks. They lady that worked there was absolutely friendly! I would recommend eating at Cafe Valeria which is located next to all of the shopping and literally on the beach! Ask for Sergio and he will take excellent care of you! Enjoy your two hour lunches and then your siesta in the hammock!

When to go
During the off season which is June through August.
What to pack
Pack more clothes then you intend on wearing. You will sweat through a lot of it! I also recommend shoes that come off easy so you can walk on the beach on your way to town.
Dining
Eat at Cafe Valeria right on the beach next to the shopping area over the canal. Cafe Rana Rene was also excellent!

“Toddler in Tow”

This was the perfect place for us. We had a toddler in tow and felt comfortable every moment we were there. Our son had a slight case of heat exhaustion and the staff were incredible about the situation, asking us how things were days after. It is one of the only places I have ever stayed, that I can't wait to return to. I tried the massage offered at the hotel, which was amazing. And also there restaurant, which was very good as well. I truly can't say enough about this place, it is a gem.

“A Gem for Couples”

Quaint, quiet and restful. Great property. Perfect for the couples traveling without children. Not good for children. Rooms were comfortable and service was great. Amenities are commiserate with hotel level. Restaurant, however, is poor in both food and service, despite the beautiful location. Drink prices for beach service double the neighboring beach restaurants and much like big city US. Close to town and other beach dining so not an issue. One minor issue...Hotel should supply more potable water! They only provide about 1/2 liter per person per day. Would like to see big bottles by beach and pool when tap is undrinkable. Felt like a Water Hostage. Next year I will bring my Camelback and fill up at the local mercado. Happy hour on the top deck is beautiful.

Getting around
Easy walk to absolutely everything!
