“Very poor service (at least on high demand season)”
I arrived with my family at 7am and got our room at 3pm we had to wait almost ten hours without having not even a glass of water. Receptionists and reception manager were very rude and not willing to serve their customers. Pool staff found a pice of poop and I witness how they didn't notified to all the people that was using the pool at that moment, they just pretend nothing happen and put more chlorine on it. The last day (perhaps it was all "bad luck") y felt vey sick with high temperature, The doctor from the hotel was fine but I had to pay for it, then I asked room service to get the medicines for me, after two hours my medicines didn't arrived, when I asked for an status it happened that they were just about to ask for them... One our after, I received my medicines and they were wrong!!! These guys are a complete mess... Definitely I don't recommend this hotel, if you are a foreign tourist it might happen that you get a bit of a better service, but it is not fair! Appart from this, Enjoy Ixtapa, it is a very nice place!
“Wonderful stay”
This is our second time staying at the Barcelo in Ixtapa, but it won't be our last. We had a wonderful time. The food is good, the beach and weather were perfect. I would recommend this place to anyone.
“Front Desk Staff is Terrible, Hotel is Okay at Best.”
This should be more like a blog. I am at the hotel right now and am off to a bad experience. The Hotel is okay, it is a bit dumpy compared to my other all-inclusive stays. It's insulting that they have tip jars on the bars for a place that says it includes tips (it doesn't), but this is common amongst all-inclusives. At check-in there were two counter people. They both were working one family and made us wait about 10 minutes. One should have broken off right away to help, but they pretty much ignored us in line until they were ready. Room is okay, it's run down a little, air condition is weak but if you close the curtains and black out the room it cools down enough to sleep. Here's why I'm reviewing so soon. Went to front desk to ask about room upgrades. There is club level rooms which come with a private lounge, free internet (Internet cost for regular rooms is expensive per hour with no option for full day), and a few other things. Front desk told us the La Palmera suite was an extra $$ per day for our full stay. We went up, took a look, and decided we'd take it. Very nice room. Came back down, said we'd take it and they said it would be $40 more per night than the first price. Asked them to honor the 1st price and they said NOPE! If you don't like it don't take it. Then they were rude. The woman at the Front Desk started ignoring us. Terrible service from the Front Desk! No courtesy at all. So we still have 8 days, we'll stay in our room, have fun, but never come back!
“I'd highly recommend Ixtapa and the Barcelo”
Ixtapa is a lovely place. It reminds me of Hawaii. The hotel has a perfect location with the market right across the street. The staff was polite and accommodating at all times. Everything was very clean. There were people at the buffets wiping spilled food and sweeping the floors all the time and women cleaning the washrooms all day. The pools were warm and very clean. The guests were young families and older couples. Not a place for young adults that want to party. Also, it was nice and peaceful at the pool with music at an enjoyable volume. The 2 mile long beach is beautiful and easy to walk on. The surf was a little too high to swim a couple of days and one day I heard a couple of people say they got jelly fish bites.
“Barcelo awesome place”
My husband and I were there in Ixtapa Barcelo for 2 weeks and loved the surroundings, staff and overall comfortable feeling of Ixtapa and the Hotel. Very hot in Ixtapa for October for us as we are used to coming down there Jan -Mar. Overall wonderful time.
“Great fun”
1st time there, we really enjoyed ourselves!
“Clean & Very Friendly”
The hotel was kept very clean and staffed by exceedingly friendly folks. Most everyone we met who lived or worked in Ixtapa/Zihua met that description. There were people cleaning all parts of the hotel, pool and beaches at virtually all hours. The food was fresh and good, though 'foodies' may want for more flavor or pizazz. The clientele were primarily Mexican families during our June trip. There was a large group of high school grads that were there for about 5 days. The teens could get loud and take over the pool bars at times, but a walk on the beautiful beach or playing in the surf re-adjusted any bad feelings that may have arisen. Even as a cynic, the nightly shows were at least somewhat entertaining. It's obvious that the performers work hard at what they do. Overall, we really liked the Barcelo Ixtapa and would return. By the way, leading up to our trip, the weather reports for the area showed thunderstorms everyday. It rained twice (during the day) over 8 days in June. Otherwise it was 86+ degrees with high humidity.
“Ixtapazihua/2010”
Everything was excellent at the hotel. However, The resturatant Caracol by the pool was only once during the 4 days we were there. I was disappointed. they have delicious pescadillas there.
“For the most part it was a nice experience”
We enjoyed our stay, the food was a little redundent at times, the breakfasts were probably the best, there was always lots of fresh fruit and salads. Beef was not good, The wine selection on the plan was either red or white and not very good, had to buy up to get decent wine.Wait staff usually friendly and tried to please. Pools and beach clean and could walk long distances either way. In the evening there was a special show every night, also local little flea markets close by. If you like a good massage , walk up the beach and for $20 get a great one, little in the open , but what the heck.
“WILL NOT RETURN”
Menu and house wine below expectations: Spaghetti three nights in a row as main entre offered. House wine tasted like watered-down, poor quality grape juice Morning omelet good. Best meal of the day Special night at Don Quixote restaurant took 3 1/2 hours to complete serving a mediocre meal - frustrating wait between courses. Nightly entertainment - Lavish production, but so rediculously, unnecessarily and unbearably loud. Why?? I would hope that Barcelo would address some of these issues as they were shared by many fellow guests.
