First impressions are not the best impressions

Posted 20-Jul-2014
Pros: Roominess of the apartment and closeness to all the main areas of interest, Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia, Topkapi palace and Grand Bazaar.
Cons: Nothing.
Location: The apartment was located at the center of Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia, Topkapi palace and Grand Bazaar. All within a 10 minute walk.
When our cab driver drove us to the rental office we were not too impressed. The office was located on a narrow cobbled stone alley our hearts sank, only later we realized that the whole Fatih region, of which Sultanahmet was a part was like that. The apartments are strewn all over the place, so no two apartments might not be the same. What we got was a roomy single bedroom apartment complete with a kitchen, living area and a balcony too. The staff were extremely nice and helpful. When I asked them where to buy a plug adapter for my iPhone, they gave me one! The staff cleaned the apartment everyday and replaced the linen and towels. They even did the dishes. The apartment was located within walking distance to the Blue mosque and close to the sea shore. Just walking up the street gave a splendid view of the sea. Over all it was worth every penny.

Excellent location in the old city

Posted 09-Jun-2014
Walking distance to all the landmarks and good restaurants. It's a great place to stay if you're travelling alone however if you're a couple, you might experience cabin fever as the space is pretty small but really good location and clean facilities

Great location but more 2* than 4*

Posted 27-May-2014
Pros: Friendly staff, great location, comfy bed.
The location of the hotel is fantastic, right in amongst the tiny streets of the old town and a very short uphill walk to the blue mosque. We were made to feel very welcome by the owner who walked the 5 minute walk to the apartment block with us. We were in a basement room (the standard double) underneath a traditional building. The room was clean and relatively spacious but the only light we had was a couple of inches coming through from street level. This also made for quite a noisy night with a busy hostel with outdoor seating being located directly oposite our 'window'. The bathroom also smelled very strongly of sewage which wasn't so pleasant in a room with little ventilation. Luckily we didn't spend much time in the room but both agreed that we wished we'd spent a bit more to get something better. Definitely more a 2* than 4*

Tucked in behind the Roman hippodrome.

A short climb to the Blue Mosque. Quarters are tight but adequate for a short stay. Friendly and helpful staff. # 34 has a balcony with a view of the hippodrome and a children's park.

Well located apartment but disappointing standard

Posted 20-May-2014
Pros: The location and the greater space provided by an apartment rather than a hotel room.
Cons: General standard of finish and decoration.
Location: Close enough to walk to the Grand Bazaar, the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia and Topkapi Palace.
Great location in the historic district - apartment was a refurbished Ottoman house that had architectural appeal. The apartment had everything it was advertised as having (appliances etc) and bed was very comfortable. It was also cleaned every day and the bed made, which was a pleasant surprise. However - the apartment smelt noticeably musty when we arrived (this went after a day or two) and the quality of presentation was well below what I would expect from a 4 star (self rated?) standard. The apartment manager, Deniz, and other staff were friendly, polite and generally helpful - and to be fair Deniz was concerned when we did tell him that we were somewhat disappointed.

I had a most enjoyable stay in this accommodation. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful!! The accommodation is approximately a 10 min walk to the main strip. I would highly recommend this accommodation and would definitely return.

Hard to get to and not very close to sites

Posted 02-May-2014
Pros: Spacious room, kitchenette, good bathroom, comfortable beds.
Cons: Sound proofing the top floor. Suggest to guests the best way to reach the hotel from the tram.
Location: Poor location for the price. On a map it may look like it is close to the Cemberlitas tram station (T1), but in reality it is a long steep downhill wa
We stayed for three nights in Apr 2014. Very close to mosque, especially the top floor suite, sounds as if there are speakers in your room. Impossible to sleep through. The tower with speakers is directly across the street. Poor location for the price. On a map it may look like it is close to the Cemberlitas tram station (T1), but in reality it is a long steep downhill walk on poorly maintained cobbled roads. Exactly not the kind of journey you want to take with a stroller and two roller bags. Highly recommend getting on/off at Sultanahmet and walking 15-20 mins on a nice paved road. Hotel is a good 15 min walk from major old town sites (Sultanahmet area with Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Basilica Cistern, etc). Bed was atypically comfortable for Turkey, and the tiny kitchenette with fridge and hot plate was good enough (we didn't cook any food, but did prepare some baby food). Top floor suite had a nice sea view, a large balcony with a table and chairs, and was fairly spacious overall, enough to keep two large bags open all the time. Bathroom was clean and okay overall. Host was helpful with suggestions for the area. We were also able to keep our stroller downstairs instead of lugging it all the way to the 3rd floor. Ziya Baba is a decent cheap place to eat nearby (6 TL for a decent kebap). Wish breakfast was included; there are many better hotels in Istanbul around the same price that do.

Very central hotel.

Within easy walking distance of all major attractions and Beyoglu. Hotel staff incredibly helpful and friendly. Lots of nice places to eat close by. Definately worth staying at. The call to prayer in the morning was quite nice and you quickly get used to it.
