Excellent location but lower your expectations

Posted 29-Mar-2014
Pros: Well placed, reasonably comfortable, the lady on reception, the view from the terrace.
Cons: Some customer service training needed. Attention to detail in rooms, no tea spoon, coffee wasn't replaced after the first night: open the roof bar!
Location: Mosques, Topkapi, Grand Bazaar, Basilica Cistern all nearby. Five minute tram ride to the Bosphorus ferries ( buy an Istanbul Card) and spice market.
This hotel is ideally located between the Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque, within walking distance of most points of interest and five minutes away from Sultanahmet tram stop if you wish to venture further afield. Be aware that the 'call to prayer' from the nearby mosques is likely to blast you out of bed at 5 am. We knew this in advance, so didn't mind: it is part of the character (and attraction) of Istanbul, after all. We booked a 'Comfort Room' but were upgraded to a 'suite' on arrival. I wouldn't have called it a suite, however it was a fairly large room with a sofa under one window and an armchair in the corner. The bed was comfortable. There are some staff training issues. The blonde lady on reception was friendly and welcoming, with excellent English. The chap who showed us the room ( he was, I think, Russian) started to show me how the air conditioning worked but when nothing happened moved on to the TV, which failed to come on. He then left. When we tried to turn on the bathroom light nothing happened. We rang reception to say we had no electricity: the chap showed up after 10 minutes with a card which he inserted near the switch box. He obviously had realised we had had no power but disappeared without dealing with it. We asked him to show us how to work the safe. After 5 minutes, he had to call someone else to show us. Breakfast was spartan, coffee terribly weak: we didn't bother after day 1. The rooftop bar didn't open, nice view though.

Great position

This hotel was perfect for our stay. If was very conveniently placed between Hagia Sofia and the Blue Mosque as well as being near to the T1 tramway. The hotel was very clean and offered a good variety of breakfast food, also the complimentary tea and cake in the afternoon were appreciated. The manager told us it was going to be made more comfortable and it could do with a spruce up in places but this would not put me off returning

Close to the Sultanhamet

A quaint boutique hotel less than a five minute walk from the Blue Mosque. The room was nice but the mattress too firm for me. The breakfast buffet was nice traditional Turkish foods and I thoroughly enjoyed the selection. On The day of checkout the hotel manager even helped walk my luggage to the tram station. I will definitely return.

Not What I Expected

Posted 02-Jan-2014
Pros: It was right in the tourist area, walking distance everywhere I wanted to go.
Cons: Customer service.
When we arrived there, one of the hotel staff helped with the luggage. It happened that I did not have any money to give a tip and the guy stood in the middle of my room till we got out with him for the tip. This was the first surprise. The room was so small, completely different from what I have seen on the website. Turkey coffee in the morning, with the breakfast that was part of the deal cost me 6 euro. Internet was not working most of the time and when it worked it was very slowly.

Pros: proximity to the tourist attractions.
Cons: customer service, they really need to improve this! As a hotel they are not very friendly or helpful.
The hotel proximity to the most of the tourist attractions was very convenient, but the overall hotel atmosphere was very disappointing. The hotel staff were very hard to understand and the rooms were very tiny even for a small person like me who is less than 100 pounds. The hotel staff did not even helped us load our luggage to our taxi when we departed considering we had 8 suitcases and we were travelling with three small children. I don't think I would stay at this hotel again.
