Relaxing hotel on the beach

Posted 22-Mar-2015
Wonderful vacation. They just weren't too helpful at the front desk. Had reserved two rooms with kids and they had put us in 2 separate buildings on different floors. Told us they would try to fix it but no one ever contacted us. They weren't trying to help at all. Otherwise beautiful with great restaurants.

Family friendly resort

Posted 22-Mar-2015
Pros: I liked the food, location, activities and ambiance.
Cons: More staff, particularly at the beach and pools. They did not stay on top of the chair turnover and chairs were left with dirty towels and garbage.
Location: View from the resort is spectacular. Most rooms do NOT have this view. Biking with a bike path, paddleboard tours, boating, fishing guides
We had a wonderful stay at Cheeca taking advantage of the many outdoor activities offered there: snorkeling, fishing, paddle boarding, kayaking. It is extremely kid friendly. We ate in the resort every night and thought that the food was very good although pricey. They have a great wine list. The decor was very nice but missed on being truly high end as the prices indicate. Some attention to detail was missed on several occasions and it seems to be a staff issue- not enough staff staying on top of things. Example: the broken phone, lack of cups and empty sanitizing wipes in fitness room. The gardens are beautiful, but the resort's winding lagoon with fountain, a bit "Disneyish" and misses the mark. All in all, we had a great time. We were there for the activities and the terrific food was a nice addition.

Relaxing and warm!

Posted 21-Mar-2015
My husband and I just spent 5 days enjoying the warm sun by the adult pool. I had a great massage we loved the beautiful vegetation. Room service on our last night was a disaster but other meals were good. The chart room bar is beautiful and underutilized. Great place to go to get out of winter!

Beautiful Place

Posted 16-Mar-2015
This was our first time staying at Cheeca Lodge and we were very pleased. My parents were there about 20 yrs. ago and couldn't stop talking about how nice it was then. The room was very clean, updated, Tommy Bahama style and comfortable. As you drive up to the hotel, the grounds and surroundings are absolutely beautiful! It is tucked back from the main road like a cozy hideaway. The view of the beach and pool are wonderful and the tiki bar is awesome! March was a perfect time to go because the breeze off the ocean was spectacular and even a little cool at night. The only downside that we saw was the food at the restaurants. It wasn't great for the price, so next time we will venture out and eat elsewhere. Other than that, we thought the whole experience was amazing! We will definitely be returning but not in the summertime. The hotel staff said July, Aug, Sept, are the worst months to go because it is so humid, hot and sticky. I don't think this experience would have been nearly as nice had the weather not been so perfect. All in all, this place is a winner!!!!!!

This resort is now 4 stars! You can not go in the water from the beach it is filled with Seagrass and trash. Yes trash which was not removed daily.

We appreciate your feedback about our resort. Cheeca has been an AAA Four Diamond property since 1990. We sincerely apologize for the issues you had with our beach and wil address them immediately. Cheeca's beach is typical of all beaches in the Keys as we are surrounded by very shallow waters. There is a swim ladder located at the end of our 525-ft. fishing pier and the water is deep enough to swim there. We hope you will return for another visit soon. Thank you for writing.

Great stay in the keys

Posted 10-Mar-2015
Pros: This place had an amazing view and amazing amenities to truly unwind and relax. Perfect location. Staff was great
Cons: The day we arrived, the concierge was not as friendly as expected. Felt like we imposed on her to schedule transportation for us
Location: We stayed here for a 2-day biking trip so we did not do to much other than go across the street to the Lorelie - great good and band

Amazing place!!

Posted 07-Mar-2015
Pros: The entrance to the hotel is quite impressive, and every guest need ha been anticipated.
Cons: We stayed on the golf course. The only problem with our room was that the walls were a bit thin and we heard conversations in the adjacent room twice.
Location: Beautiful location. So much to do in and around the resort. Key West is a beautiful drive 2 hrs away.
The grounds and facilities at Cheeca Lodge were beyond any of my expectations. Luxurious, and beautiful. This gated resort contains landscaped walkways through tropical jungle-like scenery, pools and waterfalls, and a beach area filled with comfortable places to relax. The staff was very accommodating, and the atmosphere was laid back and restful. Our room was very nice, and was serviced perfectly. Our stay was wonderful.

Poor attention to detail

Posted 04-Mar-2015
Pros: The rooms and the beach area.
Cons: Restaurant food an service. There is a lingering smell of hot cooking oil in the lobby and entryway.
Location: Islamorada is one of the less tacky Keys, but traffic on Route 1 a challenge. Best restaurants: Chef Michaels, S.A.L.T and M.E.A.T, and Bob's Bunz.
Check-in is at 4 pm, but we arrived at 2:30 and informed them we were there, They promised to notify us when our room was ready and took our car keys so the bellman could deliver our luggage. None of this ever happened, and after our continual questioning, we finally got into our room about 5:20 pm. The bellman took 10 minutes to locate our keys and we brought up our luggage ourselves. Meanwhile we had a snack in the outdoor restaurant, but it took over 30 minutes to arrive. The rooms are lovely and spacious: ours even included a hot tub, as well as a small refrigerator. The food in the restaurants was mediocre to poor, but there are several excellent nearby restaurants, and if you skip the hotel restaurants, you can have a really nice stay here. Breakfast consisted of cold sausage, cold under-cooked potatoes and underdone eggs. A room service dessert turned out to be an unopened pint of Haagen Dasz, a bowl and a spoon. And with no freezer, half of it went to waste. The beach area is beautiful, and the sunset boat ride was very nice. The beach area is a bit rocky for swimming but gorgeous.
