My husband and I booked a week at Xaloc to relax and unwind, which is exactly what we got. The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful, the location is amazing, and the accommodations were modest and clean. We will be back for sure!

"Great base for swimming with the whale sharks-beautiful and laid back"
We went to Isla Holbox for the first time to swim with the whale sharks. As a family on a budget, this trip was worth every penny. The hotel was beautiful and well built. It was in a quiet area of town and yet plenty close to walk to the plaza and the beach. The gardens were exceptional and the pool was a welcome treat after spending all day on a boat and in the salt water. We thought we might miss being right on the beach but didn't miss staying on the beach at all. The a/c worked great. Isla Holbox itself was better than we expected-very laid back and comfortable, kind of like our family. We hope to go back to Isla Holbox and would not hesitate to stay at Casa Barbara again.
We just returned from spending 9 nights at Hotel Arena and we had a great experience. The hotel's location cannot be beat, the room was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. We stayed in the Suite which has an awesome second floor patio that looks over the plaza and is in the shade during the afternoon. The room had a mini-fridge and a kitchenette and the A/C with the ceiling fan kept it perfect even during the hottest days. The water pressure is low but I believe it is probably like that all over the island. The WIFI signal is strong and the rooftop bar is awesome. All of the staff are very friendly and the shop on the first floor has the best liquor/wine selection on the island. If you are looking for a clean hotel with a great location (100 yards from the beach) then I highly recommend Hotel Arena.
The website photos make the pool look a little more glamourous than it actually is but overall the hotel is an ideal place to be if you like nature and a simple life. The rooms are lovely but because they're only a few feet away from the ocean we found lizard droppings on the otherwise immaculate bedsheets. Several iguanas live next to the pool, it's wonderful but better to be prepared!
