“Incredible views, basic accommodations, but would return!”

We went to watch the 2011 Tour de France in the Alps and couldn't get any closer to Alpe d'Huez so Vaujany it was. Vaujany is a gorgeous little ski village up in the French Alps. Plenty of little places to get supplies and a chair lift up and over to Alpe d'Huez. The resort was very adequate, if not a little basic. I was there with my wife and two others and had a two bedroom place - one room upstairs and the other downstairs. Plenty of room but the accomodations very plain, simple and a little tired from years of people tromping on skis through the place. The kitchen was small, the beds ok and the toilet tiny (my knees touching the door when sitting on the toilet - and I am only 5'10" !). The view from the room of the waterfall, town and valley below is breathtaking and it would seem all the apartments would have an equally good vista. Vaujany was a great location to get to Bourg d'Aisans and then Alpe d'Huez, both cycling and via car (though we didn't drive up on race day, that would be impossible). Many other people were there for the same purpose and everyone is in good spirits. A tough climb back up however on the bike! Only downside of Vaujany is that everything is closed by about 11 pm, including all cafes, restaurants, pubs, pizza shop - and they stop serving food around 9pm. Thus, no late nights out, but still a very good selection if you get in early. Highly recommend Vaujany itself, the accommodation reasonable.

“Nice Hotel for Ski”

The Hotel was the perfect price for comfort trade off. It was nice and clean, and the kitchen was in fact fully equiped. All of the Ski stuff is really close, as well as the supermarket. The only thing that is not so easy is how to get to the hotel, as we had to get two buses and then a taxi, all the way from Grenoble. In general it was very good.

“Hotel or hostel?”

This hotel is purely for function. They charge you 8 euros for towels, 17 euro for the tv remote control, they have a coffee machne with no filters, and they have 2 coffee mugs, but sleep 5 people, so you have to share cups. It was clean but I would rather pay a little bit more to not feel like I'm sleeping in a hostel. The beds are not comfortable at all and do not allow for a restful sleep, unless you've had 2 bottles of wine and a few shots of Jagermeister like I did on the last night.

“Vaujany”

Ottima soluzione per qualche giorno con famiglia/amici. Appartamento abb piccolo (in 3 ne abbiamo occupato uno da 6..e siam stati benissimo). Semplice ed essenziale ma efficace. Nelle immediate vicinanze però non c'è quasi nulla ideale per chi vuol stare tranquillo.
