I recently took a trip to Rio (May 8, 2015), and I stayed at this hotel. I have to say I don't write many reviews, but I had to for this hotel.
First the hotel was up to standard and they were under renovation, which shows how committed they are to their clients. Clean hotel, friendly helpful staff that spoke many languages, good Italian restaurant. Hotel is in front of the beach and you get wifi at the beach!!! Pretty awesome!! Overall, it was an awesome hotel in a great location!!
NOW FOR ROGER:
He works the front desk in the afternoons. He was amazing!! He assisted us in all of our requests in such a manner that left me speechless. He was attentive, patient, courteous, humble, hospitable, and went out of his way to make sure our experience in Rio and Sol Ipanema was more than memorable. I travel frequently abroad and I say with a lot of confidence that Roger is one of a kind. If you go he is your man for any request to expierence the best of Rio. This hotel is lucky to have such a great employee working for them. If you stay ASK FOR ROGER. A true gentleman and professional!! When I return I will book this Hotel again!! Great choice!
Location couple with value for money were the clear wins for us in choosing this hotel. It is 1 block away from the sand (a couple of minutes walk) in Ipanema Beach which gives a more local and intimate vibe of Rio than Copacabana. The rooms were comfortable and clean, staff very helpful and polite and breakfast decent. We found the restaurant next door really convenient as well and they serve really good food. Wouldn't think twice about staying here again in the future!
Nice hotel, directly opposite the road to the beach in Ipanema. It was a safe area, easy to get around and close to shops, restaurants as well.
The room was spacious, clean, had ocean view, but did not feel homely. Would've liked a lock on balcony door, and not sure why staff member tried to come into my room whilst I was sleeping.
Paid wifi- was patchy, I agree with other travelers, it's 2015. Free wifi should be a given, in ALL areas.
The view from rooftop was nice, but I didn't get to spend time up their as it was raining and all the seats were open air and wet.
Reasonable hotel, ok for single travelers
This hotel is beautiful, clean, and is in the perfect location just a few steps away from the beach where we enjoyed complimentary towels and chairs. The staff was friendly and professional. We loved the bar and restaurant staff. The rooftop pool is beautiful but defnitley not swim-worthy. It's very small and you have to cut through the restaurant to access it. It's beautiful to lounge and eat up there, though. The breakfast is ON POINT, especially with the incredible ocean view. Best French Press coffee I've ever had. Dinner was below average and overpriced, but again wonderful view. A lot of people mentioned that the rooms were outdated, I didn't think so. We had a city view and it was a clean and comfy room that was cleaned daily. Ipanema is an absloutey beautiful place and this location is prime if you want to visit the beach. It is walking distance from a number of restaurants and shops and Hippie Fair on Sundays. If you're looking for a quite place, this might not be the best option for you you. Although Ipanema isn't as loud as some other areas, Rio is just an loud city overall. The sounds of the constant car horns outside woke us up daily but who wants to sleep in when you're in Rio anyway!
This hotel is right in the middle of Ipanema and Cococabana beaches. It is a good basic hotel, nothing fancy. For example my room was 2 twin beds, a mini-fridge with snacks (which were not cheap, oh yes, the price of convenience) a medium sized plasma television on the wall, and a writing desk with a chair that went with it. In the bathroom there were 2 medium sized towels, 2 large towels, mini bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and lotion. So you should bring a couple of small towels for your face. The shower is overhead in the shower stall and you have to wait a minute for the hot water to heat up, then it works fine. I was on the second floor and heard a lot of the construction and goings-on of the cleaning crew, etc. Oh yes the air conditioning unit worked, however you couldn't turn it lower than medium level, so I had to turn it off at night or it would get too cold.
It's not the nicest hotel you'll stay in during your lifetime, but for what we were looking for (good price, clean, quiet, near the beach), the Promenade Visconti delivers. Great front staff that speaks English (hard to find in Rio) helped us a lot, and the rooms were very nice and very clean.
Forever immortalized by the 1960s bossa nova hit, “The Girl from Ipanema,” Ipanema remains at the vanguard of Rio beach society and nightlife. On Sundays, Rio’s tanned denizens socialize along Avenida Vieira Souto, which is closed to car traffic for this weekly event. West of Ipanema, Leblon tends to be less crowded than other city beaches. Rio’s botanical gardens lie directly north of Leblon.
