“A good Hotel :)”

It was a very pleasant stay at the hotel, where you can easy talk to the front desk and ask about what you need. So the service was better than good. I will recommend this hotel for people, whom needs aren´t too high, as it goes to

“Maybe just what you would expect.”

Nice spot to spend some days. Clean rooms, decent "beach" atmosphere if not a bit crowded. I found the reception to be a bit rude, I booked a night at a time and they always seemed to insist I hadn't yet paid, but otherwise a decent stay.

Getting there
You ought to expect to pay just a couple Egyptian Pounds per kilometer traveled by taxi to arrive at the hotel...... if you don't know the distance, INSIST THEY USE THE METER.. despite what the driver may say most meters work and if the driver won't turn it on... just ask they leave, the next taxi may. Taxis are going to try to charge you too much, be persistent. Almost everything is within 5 or 10 EL of the hotel or bus terminal. REALLY, JUST 5 or 10 Egyptian Pounds.
Getting around
Taxis will try to overcharge you. Almost everything is within a 5 to 10 EL range of the hotel, including the new marina and downtown. Ask that the drivers use the meter... IF THEY SAY THE METER IS BROKEN, DON'T USE THE TAXI. Another taxi will move you for a fair rate. It is 5EL to the new marina from the hotel.
Shopping
There are many bazars a few blocks away.... don't buy until you've asked prices at several places to get a fair price. I found the immediate store owners near the hotel way too aggressive but walked just several blocks right then left at the "T" and was able to shop more comfortably. I even found a small shop that would sell beers to go... much cheaper than at the hotel. You ought to feel free to bring snacks into the hotel, DISCREETLY, as they are much cheaper bought on the street than in the hotel.
Dining
Cacoas Bar has decent priced meals but don't expect much from the service... I ordered a coffee several times and still never received one... and i ordered a pizza and got two. Make sure you know that they understand the order and if you need service don't be afraid to sit near the bar... where all the servers hang out. Some restraunts will try to overcharge you... always ask for the bill before paying and order from a menu with prices listed. If any item is not listed ask the price before oredering or be prepared to pay a great deal.
Outdoors or beach
Empire Hotel has a beach resort just down the street.. it is very close.... that you can visit free of charge. There are many spots to sun bathe and a couple of pools, although it is very crowded. The "beach boys" are very helpful, if you are looking for a spot to sun for the day, ask them and they will help you with chairs and mattresses. Be good to them and they will be good to you. They were extremely helpful to my party. Thanks Ali!
Other
Egyptians generally view tourists as a "walking wallet" as one fellow traveler put it, but it doesn't have to be that way. You don't have to walk in every shop as they insist, you don't have to pay too much as they may ask, and you don't have to be taken advantage of. If you are shopping for something, never buy from the first shop. If you are overcharged for a meal, etc. ask to see the bill. If the taxi wants more than 5 or 10 EL then let him pass and travel with the next that will use the meter. Please consider the travelers that will be there after you.
