“"Not impressed"”
The hotel's website says it is only steps from the beach. False advertising. It is at least a 10-minute walk away from the beach. The hotel's beach is a 5-minute shuttle ride away at the Clubhouse, where they have another pool and beach access. The food is okay, all they have are buffets. You can't order off the menu. The phones don't work. We were traveling with another family, and it was easier to go knock on their door to talk to them. We requested an iron & ironing board, they said they didn't have ironing boards, only irons!
“Perfectly fine”
Arriving in Huatulco after 5 days in Oaxaca was a bit of a jarring experience. Everyone we met in Oaxaca was friendly and laid back. No one tried to hustle us except the clowns at the zocolo who wanted 50 cents per balloon - not a big deal. The Huatulco area is incredibly beautiful, but the whole economy is based on tourism, and there is a lot of money to be made, so everyone is hustling. We arrived att he hotel about 11 a.m. and were told there would be an extra fee if we wanted to check into our rooms before 4pm. Then they said that my son, who is 7, would have to pay for breakfast, although I had paid for room and breakfast. To their credit, they finally agreed to include his breakfast, but I had to be persistent and patient. Instead of paying the extra $40 to check in early, we left our luggage and headed to the beach club, which was great. It was HOT! The ocean was too rough for the kids to swim in, but the pool was great, and lunch was fine. The rooms were clean and air conditioned. There's a water cooler in the dining room so you can fill up bottles. Breakfast was really good, with pancakes and cereal for kids, and great fruit, eggs, beans, bacon, etc. DInner was good too. There's also a pool at the hotel itself, which we used because it was so hot. All of the guests aside from us appeared to be Mexicans, which we liked. We rented our own boat (2 adults and 2 kids) to explore the bays. Bahia Maguey was best for swimming for kids and had ok snorkeling.
