Nice hotel in downtown Houston

Posted 20-Jul-2014
The room was a little smaller than I expected but it was really nice and classy. There was a restaurant and bar that were full of people but I didn't get to try them because I had other plans.

Meh

Posted 15-Jul-2014
Pros: Large bathroom
Cons: The smell of sewage in the lobby.
Location: Minute Maid Park
Lobby did smell like sewage as noted in other reviews. Great staff. Large bathroom. Homeless population in the area is sky-high.

In the heart of downtown

Posted 09-Jul-2014
My view from my rm. 5th floor was of vallet parking and trash dumpster. Was not a good downtown view. Sheets were clean but not comforters. There were brownish stains on top. Vallet parking is to much $28. Could have been giving option to park my on vehicle considering it was right behind hotel in a not so secure area. The only good thing about vallet parking was that we were able to keep an eye on our vehicle from our hotel view. No complementary breakfast $15 per person for buffet breakfast

Don't let the neighborhood scare you away

Posted 08-Jul-2014
Pros: The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, the staff was great. Wasn't a big fan of the restaurant menu selection but the food wasn't bad.
Cons: needs
Location: 10 min walk to the convention center, Minute Maid Park is closer. Trains 5 minute walk. Homeless Mission across street. Federal Prison 2 blocks away
The hotel is across the street from a Mission that has a large population of homeless gathering every morning so be aware. We never had any incident that made us feel uncomfortable, you should just be aware they will be there. The Front desk staff was always very friendly and helpful, Elliot is the best!. Housekeeping kept the rooms clean (we had 2) but had to be asked for toilet paper and tissue since there wasn't any. The bar in the lobby was very convenient and Chris is a great bartender. The hotel offers a free shuttle which we used extensively and were thrilled with the service. The convention center is a 10 minute walk and Minute Maid Park is even closer. The train is less than a 5 minute walk which takes you all over too. We were there for the Boy's Junior National Volleyball Championship and had a group of 18 year olds with us and none of them ever felt threatened by the location so don't let the Mission across the street scare you away. For the money, this hotel worked out great for us.

Nice hotel in the heart of the downtown

Posted 08-Jul-2014
Pros: Accommodation. Staff is kind and helpful. Location is fantastic. There is also an SUV shuttle to take guests around the city.
Cons: Breakfast was great, but it was not included in the booking price.
Location: The mere downtown of Houston. Nice bars and restaurants.
Everything was excellent. Location is also great. It takes a few minute walk to nice restaurants and bars.

Nice place to stay

Posted 07-Jul-2014
Pros: They employed a personal driver to run you around downtown. He did go off duty at midnight.
The Sam is located in a great spot. Food, entertainment and the ball park were all very close. (less than 5 blocks) The Sam has no pool and the parking was on the street (or valet at $28 per night).
