Night on the town

Posted 03-Jul-2014
Pros: Convience to theaters
My husband and I live in Houston but due to the fact I work downtown we decided on going to see a show at the Hobby Center. The Lancaster was in perfect distance for walking to the venue. I was intially afraid it might rain on us and contact the front desk and was informed they had "enough umbrellas to make Mary Poppins blush", I thought that was cute and appreciated how preparred they were should bad weather arrive on us. Had a wonderful evening at the theater and a increadible breakfast before walking back to my office the next morning. Thank you Lancaster for such a nice and restful overnight get away.

This is a great alternative to the chain hotels in downtown Houston. I stayed here many years ago and was not impressed, but the updates that have been made, while keep that old hotel experience will keep me coming back.

Great location, great staff, great restaurant!

Posted 01-Jul-2014
Pros: ambience, décor, comfortable room, great staff
Cons: nothing
Location: movies, theater, baseball games, lots of dining, they have a shuttle too that will take you within 3 miles of the hotel
It was fabulous! The staff was so warm and friendly and always went above and beyond to ensure we were happy. The room was very comfortable and an adequate size, it wasn't huge, but it was plenty. The Lion's Den is great and has snacks for purchase with cash or room charge and a microwave for use. I loved the ambiance when I first walked in. The hotel was built in the 20's and the décor and music fit that time period and was just wonderful. I will be staying at this hotel every time I come to Houston in the future!

First Time Stay in Downtown Houston

Posted 25-Jun-2014
Pros: Comfort, style, location-history
Cons: A mini Spa would be nice.
Location: close to everything -arts, history, food.
The welcoming was beyond excellent. The Clerk was the nicest, funniest man, who made checking in fun! Everything was wonderful.

Beautifully Restored Hotel in the Arts District

Posted 19-Jun-2014
Pros: Friendly staff. Nicely appointed rooms with a large bathroom. Refrigerator in the room. Super comfortable bed.
Cons: We were very pleased and have nothing negative to say.
Location: The hotel is downtown and is located in the arts district. Restaurants are within walking district as well as theatres.
While we only stayed for one night, it was a very pleasant stay. The hotel has been renovated and looks new. Check in was handled professionally and courteously. The hotel offers a wine reception each evening between 5-6pm, and the cabernet offering we chose was good. While the hotel has a restaurant, it also is located in the arts district and has some restaurant choices close by (within walking distance). Our room (502) was nicely appointed and had everything we needed. Super comfortable bed made for a good night's sleep. In the morning we had vouchers for a full buffet breakfast. While it was not out of the ordinary, it WAS good food and the area was clean and kept well stocked. The hotel also offers a complimentary shuttle for travel within a three mile radius. Not only would we stay here again, we WILL as we plan to return in the fall for another museum exhibit, and this hotel will be booked for it.

Very nice place!

The hotel has been renovated, and while my room was small relative to a chain-brand hotel, everything was very comfortable and of good quality. I appreciated the printer and snack bar in th "Lion's Den." Will definitely stay here again.

Older Hotel

Posted 28-May-2014
Pros: Room and bed.
Cons: Elevators were under renovation.
Location: Heart of downtown; can walk to major businesses or entertainment.
Staff and room were excellent. This is an older hotel, and only one of two elevators was working while I stayed there, and as I was on the 12th floor, it was a long wait going up or down. Believe this was a temporary problem, so I would consider staying again. As with all downtown hotels, the parking was breathtakingly expensive. Really comfortable room and bed.

Oasis of comfort in downtown Houston

Posted 26-May-2014
Pros: Loved the bed, AC, shower, decor, history, comp beverages, and quiet housekeeping!!!
Cons: The windows needed cleaning--they were so dirty our view was obscured. The elevator(s) need work. Breakfast was so-so.
Location: Minuti Coffee is a block and a half away. Walkable to tramline, though we preferred to drive to other parts of the city. Loved the museum district.
First trip to Houston. Chose The Lancaster based on reviews, location, and love of history. Turned out better than expected. Our room was a little oasis. Surprisingly, the AC unit was quiet, modern, and kept us ridiculously cool on 90 degree days. Bed was supremely comfortable; shower was decadent--I don't even want to know how many gallons per minute! The trifecta, in my book. All other perks were icing on the cake. Room was a muted light blue and bathroom had brass fixtures and subway tile. They call it English country--I call it not hectic for a boutique hotel. City view, too bad the window was filthy. The elevator was slow (and only one of two was working), but I was on vacation, not in a hurry, and willing to wait or walk for such a perfect hotel room. Free wine during the week and drinking water with cucumber or lemon at all times in the lobby. Housekeeping were invisible and on the ball. (When was the last time you stayed in a hotel where you WERE NOT rudely awakened by banging on your door and shouts of "Housekeeping!" This hotel doesn't do that and that is a MAJOR plus.) Breakfast buffet included, but so-so. We preferred to explore the amazing eats elsewhere in Houston. Love the photos and history of the place. Staff was friendly or neutral. Valet was a little slow/oblivious--one night we pulled in and the car that pulled in behind us was checked in first. Price was great. We were going to stay elsewhere for twice the price--so glad we didn't! We'll be back!!
