“A Gem in Downtown Houston”
If you are planning to stay in Downtown Houston, this is the place! The room was spotless. The valet service is top notch. Everyone on the hotel staff was friendly and helpful. The food was great and a good value compared to other places I have stayed. The condition of the hotel is very good considering the age of the place. There was so much to see and do within walking distance we couldn't do it all on this trip but we will be back.
“Lancaster Hotel Houston”
This little boutique hotel, had great beds, Nothing beats a comfy bed and pillows. The free shuttle service was wonderful as I was going to the George R Brown convention centre everyday. They would drop me off and I would call and someone would come to pick me up no matter the time of night. That in itself made it a wonderful and safe holiday for me. Highly recommend this hotel to all traveller's that like the quaint style boutique hotels. I was able to walk around the corner to get on the local bus to get to the Houston Space Centre at a cost of only $2.00 each way. From the same stop I was able to go the Galleria shopping centre $2.50 return trip about 30mins each way. the shopping was great too.
“We will return”
Very nice hotel, nice staff. The valet parking fee is $30/night. At the time of reservation it should be a question whether parking will be used, and declare how much it will be. When we left we had to wait for 40 minutes to get our car.
“I would recommend this hotel”
We chose the hotel due to the location of it and the very reasonable price all of which matched our expectations. The reception staff were extremely helpful whether it was getting us public transport information or things to do in the area and were very knowledgable for all our holiday needs.
“Antique Hotel in Great Downtown Location”
The Lancaster is a very old hotel in need of some renovation. To tell you how old it is, they still use metal keys in the doors (kind of nice in a nostalgic sort of way). The front desk staff is very helpful and coffee and fruit is provided in the lobby. I had some issues with the cleaning staff...in particular, one maid. When I arrived at about 5:30pm, the maid was in my room putting ice in the room. As I opened the door, she scared the crud out of me and I had to wait for her to leave. The next night, I got back to the room about the same time. I went into the bathroom and luckily closed the door. Suddenly, I heard a knocking on the front door and had to yell "Hello?" as the maid was apparently hard of hearing. Then, I hear someone keying into the room followed by "Hello? You need ice?" After shouting "No thanks!" several times and getting the response "Hello? Ice? You need?", I realized she didn't understand me and was coming into the room. Finally I heard the door close and someone shuffling around in the room, followed by a "Thank you!" and the door closing again. Creepy. Lesson:keep the "Do Not Disturb" on your door at all times when you are there or the maid may key into your room. Gym has a treadmill, stairclimber, and some weights. It is crammed into a tiny room. The restaurant is WAY over-priced for the quality and amount of food served. Finally, they need some kind of sound-proofing. Every vehicle that passes by sounds like it is in your room.
“Superb location but needs updating”
The hotel is very charming, romantic, 40's type furnitue and 4 poster beds. However, if you are a business traveler who looks forward to a modern, quality TV to watch as I understand it there are only a few rooms where you can view the TV from the bed. The hotel needs to re-arrange, update the swivel on the TVs and invest in some more modern TVs. The one I did have, after moving to a room with one I could view while resting in bed, was a poor sound quality and the picture was also off, too dark. Ice is delivered to your room but sometimes it is 9 p.m. so I prefer hotels where you can pick it up yourself when you need ice. The location in the theatre district is superb, near some fine restaurants. They offered newspapers in the lobby and were very friendly.
“Aged ungracefully”
The location is great for any event in the northern part of downtown. the restaurant is good. Unfortunately, the rooms are old, shabby, and uncomfortable.
“Downtown Houtson”
I picked this hotel due to its location--within walking distance to many of Houston's downtown concerts, plays, etc. locations An upscale hotel, with excellent service. Recommended if your primary travel purpose is being downtown in Houston.
“Nice hotel with old style”
The Hotel is very nice, for people who likes an old style. Very clean and friendly staff! The hotel transportation is great.
“A real good place to stay downtown”
Whenever I,m downtown Houston I stay at the Lancaster. It is a nice hotel and it is close to everything downtown. The price is reasonable.
