“A great place to see Houston from”

We chose this hotel as we wanted a central location from which to tour and we could walk to the baseball. It was a very good hotel and I would recommend a visit, particularly if you're planning to see the Astros!

“Very satisfied"”

“My hotel of choice when in Houston”

This was my second stay at the Magnolia. The atmosphere is friendly, the hotel is spotless, and the extras give it a five star feel. From the complimentary happy hour to cookies and milk before bedtime, to spa-like soaps and shampoos, this hotel rocks! This is a five star hotel at 4 star prices.

“First time at Magnolia”

It was fine - very modern. I was only there as my regular hotel was full, but it was an acceptable substiture. Modern decor, two free drinks (very limited selection) at happy hour, servicable free breakfast buffer. Definite good choice if you need to stay downtown.

“Excellent value in downtown Houston”

The Magnolia Hotel presents excellent value and comfort in downtown Houston. It was especially convenient for us as my wife was attending the Quilt Festival at the convention centre. the Magnolia provides a shuttle service for both getting you to where you want to go and picking you up. this was most appreciated. We had a King room on the 19th floor which was all we could have wanted. The included breakfast which has some free hot items was more than adequate for our needs. Other breakfast items are available at a nominal cost. The afternoon happy hour is a great idea. We stayed and ate dinner one day , quality of food was very good as was service. Having a guest laundry was appreciated as we had been traveling for nearly 6 weeks. Overall I would rate the Magnolia as one of the best stays out of the 14 hotels we stayed in on our USA trip. Highly recommended.

Area recommendations

We were in Houston fora a specific purpose. There is not a lot to do in downtown Houston but do explore the tunnels which is where most people are to be found and the city hall and arts district. A visit to the Houston Space Centre is worthwhile especially if traveling with children. Houston has a great symphony orchestra is interested in classical music.

Getting around

Houston is all about cars for getting around but does have a good bus system. Buy a Q card at the Downtown Transit Centre and this will get you on buses and the train. The train does take you to some interesting areas especially museums and art centers. It goes right through the medical area if in Houston for medical reasons.

“Nice accomodations and service”

My stay at the Magnolia was very pleasant. The room was comfortable-just what you want after a long day at a convention. The cookies before bed were a nice end to the day. Although I had to wait a while to get the hotel shuttle, it was wonderful to be in an big SUV instead of having to climb into the usual hotel van. I've already recommended it to several people and plan to stay next year when I return for the convention.

“Think Before Booking”

The hotel personnel were very professional and courteous. While the bed was very comfortable, the room was smaller than I expected. There is no shuttle to or from the airports (Hobby or "Bush". Cab fare including tax to the hotel was almost half the cost of the room. They do have a limosine service that can be used "downtown" without a charge, (except tip) but the limosine to "Bush" is more than half the cost of the room. (w/o tip) Breakfast was buffet style, omelets were extra. Breakfast seating was at large round tables, those you might expect at a wedding reception. There is no restaurant per se; however, the food I had was not hot enough, but the cheesecake was excellent, and I suspect freshly made on the premises. The Magnolia is in a building formerly occupied as the headquarters for Shell Oil. This part of Houston has been redeveloped and on the surface the redevelopment appears to be successful, but I was there on both the weekend and the weekdays. On the weekend the streets are essentially empty and many restaurants are not open. And, even on the weekday the streets were not very populated. The Magnolia is in walking distance to several entertainment venues and the surroundings are pleasant. This hotel was rated by some organization as one of the 100 best hotels in the World. This is certainly not the case. I've stayed in Hampton Inn's that were more luxurious. Hope this helps.
