Dunbartonshire
This rural area, on the north bank of the River Clyde, was once the capital of the ancient Kingdom of Strathclyde. Visitors are drawn to historical sites such as Dumbarton castle, where William Wallace was once imprisoned. The castle sits on Dumbarton Rock, a popular rock-climbing spot. Cruises can be taken from Balloch to explore Loch Lomond, and Glasgow City Centre is 45 minutes away by train.

Glasgow City
Long an important industrial centre and port, modern Glasgow is one of Britain’s most vibrant cultural cities. The centre features outstanding Victorian architecture and houses over 20 galleries and museums, several boasting world-class collections, and many graced by the works of Charles Rennie Mackintosh. Performing arts venues stage the best acts outside London, with shops (Merchant Square, Buchanan Street, Barras Market) and restaurants to match.

Glasgow International Airport (GLA)
Glasgow Airport is eight miles west of Glasgow. It has all the facilities to befit its status as Scotland's principal long-haul gateway, though a multi-million pound plan to expand and upgrade facilities is underway. The Glasgow Flyer (service 500) shuttle bus runs every seven minutes at peak times, taking around 25 minutes to Glasgow city centre. For business travellers, bus 905 runs every 20 minutes direct to the SECC.

Inverclyde
Port Glasgow is the largest of the several towns and villages that comprise Inverclyde, and, together with Greenock, was central to Glasgow’s shipbuilding history. The Comet was the first commercial steam vessel in Europe, built in Port Glasgow in 1812; a replica of the famous ship is found in the town centre. Greenock was once home to Scott's, the oldest shipbuilding business in the world.

Loch Lomond
A popular leisure destination, Loch Lomond is a freshwater Scottish loch and home to many islands. It has been immortalized in the song, The Bonnie Banks O'Loch Lomond.

Renfrewshire
Renfrewshire contains much of Glasgow's commuter belt as well as the airport, and its roads are consequently often congested. The main town is Paisley, famous for its distinctive textile designs, no longer produced there, but represented in the Museum and Art Gallery. Paisley's Gilmour Street railway station is one mile from Glasgow airport terminal. The town is seven miles from Glasgow.
