Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (BOM)
The Chhatrapati Shivaji Airport, situated in Andheri East, is one of the busiest airports in India. The international airport is named after Chhatrapati Shivaji Raje Bhonsle, a 17th-century Maratha Emperor. This area is surrounded by shopping, authentic craft markets, and restaurants. Within a 10km radius from the area are prominent business districts like the Bandra-Kurla complex and the Santacruz Electronics Export Processing Zone (SEEPZ). Other popular local attractions include NSE Exhibition Centre, Borovilli National Park, Film City, and the Bombay Museum. Pre-paid taxis to the city centre are good value, and there are also less expensive (and slower) buses to travel around in.
Colaba
Colaba, situated at the southernmost tip of Mumbai, is one of the most exciting places in the city. Colaba Causeway is a tourist hub which runs parallel to the Gateway of India, which has always been a hot vacation destination. When in Colaba, visit the Prince of Wales Museum and the Regal Cinema, one of the few old movie theatres in service in the city of Mumbai. There are numerous shops and sidewalk stalls that deal in costume jewellery, t-shirts, low-priced leather goods, semi-precious stones, authentic Indian ware, as well as Kashmiri carpets and shawls. It's best to visit several shops while exploring all of the opportunities for a good deal and negotiating on price. The causeway is also lined with food kiosks, restaurants, and cafes. Leopold's Cafe & Bar and Cafe Mondegar are some the most famous restaurants in this area.
Fort - Churchgate - Nariman Point
The Fort area is the central point of Mumbai. It was here that the commercial and administrative activities were largely concentrated in the past. Even today some of the main financial and other offices are lodged in this area. Churchgate area is in close proximity to Nariman Point, one of the most developed areas in Mumbai. Churchgate gets its name from the famed Churchgate Railway Station. Horniman Circle is the main focus of the Fort area. The Gothic and Victorian buildings in the Fort area highlight the history of the British Empire. Town Hall, an imposing neo-classical construction is located overlooking the Horniman Circle. Those with an interest in Indian art will want to visit the Jehangir Art Gallery, a well-known exhibition space in Mumbai, next to the Prince of Wales Museum. Other prominent landmarks include the Flora Fountain, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (previously Victoria Terminus), the Municipal Corporation building, and the University of Mumbai with the Rajabai Clock tower.
Juhu Beach
While you tour around Mumbai, be sure to visit the Juhu Beach—an extended stretch of sandy beach from Santacruz to Vile-Parle. This beach, on the shores of Arabian Sea, is the most renowned beach in the commercial capital of India, Mumbai. It is a superb spot to enjoy the sunset whilst tasting some local Mumbai snacks such as Bhelpuri and Pani Puri. If you are lucky, you could even get a chance to watch a shoot of a Bollywood movie. Children can enjoy a trip to Juhu Beach with a horse, donkey, or camel ride in addition to a variety of amusements that are on offer. Numerous vendors, food stalls, and entertainment outlets add to the jovial atmosphere.
Khar - Bandra
Khar is a suburb of Mumbai, situated north of Bandra and south of Santa Cruz. Bandra is another suburb in the expanding business district of Mumbai. Being centrally situated, Bandra has easy connectivity to all the parts of the city. Bandra is also associated with nicknames such as the 'Queen of the Suburbs' and 'Restaurant Suburb of Mumbai.' The Bandra area is one of the most cosmopolitan areas of Mumbai. Bandra is now a shopping paradise, and for those interested in shopping, look out for Hill Road and the Linking Road in Khar. Major Bandra landmarks include the Mount Mary Basilica and Jogger's Park.
Powai Lake
Powai Lake is a large man-made lake which was built under British rule. It is located in one of the northern suburbs of Mumbai, to the west of the Indian Institute of Technology. The suburb too is named after the lake. This lake offers a much desired getaway from the chaotic Mumbai city life. Overlooking the lake is a a go-kart track that caters to a large number of enthusiasts every evening. Hiranandani Gardens Township and shopping malls are just 1 km from the site. Entertainment centres, boutiques, and bustling food courts can be effortlessly spotted. Those looking to conduct business or just unwind can go for The Residence Hotel & Convention Centre, on the banks of Powai Lake.
Santa Cruz Domestic Airport (BOM)
The airport at Santa Cruz caters to an extensive network of domestic destinations. From this area, buses and fixed-price taxis operate to all major city locations and places of historical significance. Most of the local hotels provide airport transfers (pick-up and drop-off). The area offers easy access to the Bandra-Kurla Complex, which is Mumbai's fastest growing business district. Visitors can easily find an ideal setting to unwind, and the restaurants of this area offer international as well as Indian cuisine.
