“Spartan Hostel”
The YWCA is located 15 minutes walk from Mongkok KCR station and so is relatively convenient for travelling around Hong Kong. Our room contained twin beds and a sink and was cleaned every day. Single sex bathrooms are shared with other rooms on the same corridor. However, the age and condition of the buiding made it look dirtier than it probably was. Remember that the Anne Black is a YWCA hostel and not a hotel. It's probably OK if all you need is a bed and a place to store your things safely in the centre of Hong Kong. However, it's not a hotel so don't expect any degree of comfort at all.
“More than adequate room and location.”
The Anne Black is a basic hotel that is somewhat time-worn but our double room on the 20th floor was clean and very roomy, our sole complaint would be that the in-window air-conditioner was a little noisy at times. There are several good restaurants in the immediate area a short walk away, and Nathan Road shopping district and Star Ferries are only a HK$5 (about US40cent) 10 minute bus ride away. This hotel is in no way luxurious, but meets basic requirements more than adequately, and provided the respite we needed from the 98% humidity we experienced in October.
“Will not go back again”
For someone who can't afford to have a bed for the night in Hong Kong, then this is it. Its basic basic. Walls are thin, building is old, and people are in and out slamming the room doors.
“With this low price, people shouldn't complain much!”
The location is OK. The service and amenities are minimal. The environment is pretty clean. The room size is like a personal school dorm. The staffs are courteous. The cost of the room is excellent. So, if you are a very budge minded person who is not looking for something fancy at all but a clean safe place to stay, provided not too far away from busy strip, try this one.
“Good No Frill Hotel”
This is one of the few low cost hotels that one can find in Hong Kong. It is situated right in the middle of Kowloon Penisula, and is about a good 15 minutes' walk from Nathan Road. I have stayed in a room with communal bath during my last trip to HK, and I found that the room was small but clean, and there was even a sink with running water inside the room. The room was cooled by a window unit air conditioner, which worked very well for the small room. For shower and toilet, one had to go to the communal bathroom. On each floor, there were two same-sex communal bathrooms serving male and female guests respectively. And each bathroom has three shower units and three toilets. During the daytime, the cleaning staff would clean up whatever messes that people left behing, fast and often. But at night, when there was no cleaning personnel on duty, people would just mess up the place, i.e. for not flushing the toilets, and throwing soiled toilet paper everywhere inside the bathroom. It appeared to me that somebody was doing that on purpose. I know that there are a lot of good hotels in Asia or other parts of the world that would charge the same as or much less than the rate by this hotel. But this is HK and one cannot really find any better hotel deal than this one. So in here I am not faulting the the hotel for the messiness of the bathrooms. It is the fellow guests that were not being considerate. I would recommend this hotel to others.
“Good Budget Hotel but no in room internet”
Sizeable room, tiny bathroom. Room is Clean. It's a good deal for a budget hotel. But they don't have in room internet. That's the disadvantage. If you want to use free internet you have to bring your computer and sit in the lobby. By the way, the bed in hard as American standard.
“Good value for budget travelers”
Located in a very desirable and safe area of Kowloon. Room was reasonably clean, furnitures were practical, and building features and window shades were very old. Service was good. It is not fancy but a good value for budget travelers!!
“IT'S HONG KONG'S BEST HOTEL FOR BUDGET TRAVELLERS”
I was really happy with my stay with this hotel. Check-in was an instant. The staff were polite, friendly and thay can all speak in very good English. In 5 minutes, we were already opening or room. The room was nice, clean and cozy. It's a lot more better than what can be seen from the pictures in their website. It is complete with extra pillows, beddings, a Tefal electric "thermos" for boiling water, drinking glasses, shampoos, toothbrush and toothpaste, tissues, handtowels and bath towels that they change everyday. The towels are clean and so white. It has a TV and refrigerator which are all working. We moved the beds together so we can form a big bed and accomodate the kids. It's ok for them. For the following days, we came home with the beddings already fixed in that manner. Location is also great. Wellcome supermarket is just a short distance from the hotel. So if you need to stock up on things like in my case I stocked up on coke in cans (very cheap in wellcome), noodles which we eat if we get hungry during the night, cookies and pastries and even batteries. 7-11, mannings and watsons is also a stone throw away. They have a restaurant, but I havent tried to eat there as we always have food as soon as we got to the hotel. It is a 5 to 10 minute walk to the yau ma tei mtr. In our case, we usually take a cab to the mtr as you will only pay the flat rate of 18hkd. We also left our baggage on our last day while we are on our last minute shopping --- for free.
“Good value for price”
Everything was OK at the YMCA, check in was expedite and facilities were good value considering price. The hotel was clean, but the elevator was a little bit slow. The location was not excellent but convenient to go for a walk.
“will back next time”
good location, good staf, good price
