“Our Findings”

As pointed out above, the only thing we did not like was that the area of Mongkok was very congested and a bit far out from where the action takes place. Travelling by Train or bus was a must to get to Tsim Sham Shu station which is Central to everything. This is just a personal thing but the staff and the hotel was excellent.

“Would stay here again”

The Royal Plaza exceeded our expectations. It was in a perfect location and the ease to get to all the markets. Access to 2 MTR stations from the hotel made getting around Hong Kong so easy. We have stayed closer to the habour in Tsim Sha Tsui but this was better relaxing. We will definitely make this the place to stay next year.

“Will definitely use again”

After having looked through numerous hotels in HK, (travelling with a 1 yo) this room boasting with 60+ sqm definitely caught our eye. We were happy staying at Kowloon side for bigger hotel rooms. The hotel room was clean, spacious and well situated. The staff very helpful. 80% of the taxi drivers did recognise the hotel's name in English. It is slightly out of the way comparing to Mongkok but the extra space was definitely worth it. The Chinese restaurant in side the hotel had beautiful food albeit a little over priced, but stay away of the room service food. Situated on top of Mong kok east station is definitely a plus and Grand century mall next door can occupy you for quite awhile too.

Area recommendations

Mongkok is busiest at around 8:00pm. We navigated through the night markets with a pram on our first night, everyone was very friendly and understanding. There are overhead pedestrian bridges if you want to get out of the area and not tackle the crowd.

“Fantastic Hotel in market central”

Really enjoyed the Hotel and the amazing Buffet - beautiful. Lovely rooms and great location near retail shops and the best markets.Would definately return.

Recommend to visist all the markets on Fa yuen street , Ladies market and Sports market.Ferry around Victoria Harbour and visit the penninsula Hotel.The Royal Plaza Hotel has a great happy Hour and beautiful buffet dinner.Subway out to the Outlets at Citygate is a must.

Shopping

Ladies market for great nargains on shoes , handbags , sunnies , jewellery , hats and pashminas. Catch subway to Citygate outlets for the day.

“Great hotel close to MTR”

Have just returned from a 7 night vacation with my wife at the Royal Plaza. I would thoroughly recommend paying extra for the executive club option, as you can save a lot of money that way by eating and drinking there. We upgraded to a suite on arrival as there wasn't much room in the standard room, and the suite was spectacular. As it is quite a distance from the island, what we got for our money was MUCH better than you would get there, but it didn't matter as it is only a short walk to the MTR ststion which gets you anywhere. Note though that the closest MTR (Mong Kok East) isn't on a convenient line. Closest useful station is Prince Edward, which is a 5-10 minute walk away. Check out the Export shops in Fa Yuen Street which sell good brands (eg Calvin Klein) very cheaply (real stuff, not fake). Ladies Market is very close too, and you can buy good electronics goods cheaply at the Bank Centre (Exit E Mong Kok MTR Station). One down-side on the hotel: you only get the sun in the morning where the pool is located, so if you are planning on relaxing by the pool, bear this in mind! This was our first trip to Hong Kong and we thoroughly enjoyed it. I recommend the open top bus tour for interesting facts about the locality.

“Spend your money elsewhere”

Initially booked this hotel after reading good reviews from tripadvisor. I was disappointed from the moment I checked in. Arrived noon but was not allowed to check in until 2 pm. The hotel's location was far, decor was poor. I was upgraded to deluxe room, but even it was dilapidated, old, rusty, and smelly. Yes the hotel is connected to a mall, that connects to the mtr. But you have to change 2 trains, and walk so far that it's not even worth taking a subway. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Pay a little more and stay in tsim tsa tsui area.

“Enjoyable experience”

We stayed for 1 night going over to Europe and 2 nights on the way back and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the hotel. Arriving very early each time (about 7.00 am) we were able to use the lovely pool area and gym to relax and clean up while waiting for our room, which we were able to get into by 10.30, instead of the usual 2.00 pm. We discovered the Hotel's Yum Cha restaurant, which is relatively hidden away, and appears to be a favourite local haunt (we went there several times and were always the only westerners....) We tried the Hotel buffet breakfast at La Scala and were disappointed (hot food section in particular as dishes were tepid and lacked taste). The hotel provides a shuttle bus service down to Star Ferry, and it is on a local train line. The hotel is right across from the beautiful Flower Markets and what ended up being our favourite local eating place: the "Delicious" restaurant: cheap and truly delicious food frequented by locals only. It is also a short walk to the amazing aquarium fish markets and ladies market. For those of you who enjoy Mall shopping, the hotel is on top of a huge mall.

Area recommendations

We love visiting the giant Buddha on Lantau island and make it a must each time we visit Hong Kong. This time we took an island ferry to Mui Wo on Lantau island, where I had stayed previously for several days, had a delicious and inexpensive seafood meal on the water, then took the local bus from there (this proved to be very scenic!) to see the wondrous giant Buddha and Monastry, where we spent a few hours. They've built a shopping tourist village here to go with the new cable car so you could spent hours in the area seeing the old and the new. After cueing for 45 mins (it was a Saturday, 4.30 pm with crowds of local people!), we took the very new (and quite magnificently scary) cable car all the way down the mountains to the seaside, then the underground train back to the Royal Plaza hotel.

“4th stay in hotel”

i like the hotel as it is conveniently situated and very clean staff some times can somtimes be ubrubt (conceirge) otherwise i highky recommend the hotel
