“Nice hotel outside of town.”

The quality and service of the hotel are excellent. I loved the rooms and service. Just be sure you know where it is located in relation to downtown Hong Kong. It is conveniently located near the subway, but getting downtown will take 30-40 minutes with train transfers. If you are doing business in both Hong Kong and China (Shenzhen), then it is conveniently located in the middle.

“nice and quiet”

beautiful hotel in quiet area of HK. if you are looking to relax outside the craziness of the city, this is perfect. nice shipping in sha tin station two mtr stops away. distance from TST/central is an issue if you are going back and forth a lot, but mtr is walking distance from the hotel.

“expect more because of the Hyatt name brand”

Room a bit small but the bathroom is good size. Great shower but had mold arround corking and grout line on wall marble. Need a good bleach scrub. Furiture kind of beat up a bit consider only 2 years old supprise with Hyatt brand name. No sign to hand outside door for cleaning room service . Breadfast a bit expensive for $30.00 PP. Room sevice is good, reasonable, fast and food arrive hot. Location is great if you do not want lot of people. close to train station only 2 stop and you be in Shatin biggest mall with plenty famous blend shopping and good food.

“Insulation problems”

This hotel is far out of the normal Hong Kong trading and shopping areas but is suitable to regular visitors to Hong kong who know their way around using the MTR and minibuses. My real problem in this hotel was the noise generated in neighbouring rooms and bathrooms, as you can distinctly hear the TV playing, neighbors talking and loudt watery noises of showers, baths or drains. For a modern building destined to be a hotel, I am surprised the insulation is so bad. This is also a problem very difficlut to remedy; once it's built..it's built!

“Hyatt Regency ShaTin”

We usually love this hotel. It is fairly new, so it is clean. It is not in the center of Hong Kong, but very close to the MTR (a quick walk)...the area is peaceful and quiet compared to Hong Kong. We usually get a decent sized room, but on our last stay, the room was very tiny and we could hear the train all night long. This has never happened before. I suggest you ask for a room with a view of the "water" as opposed to a "mountain view" since the trains run along the mountain. We also were able to hear the rumbling of the elevator at night. We were not very happy campers on this visit, but all other visits were wonderful. I guess it just depends on where the room is located. Something to consider...

Area recommendations

Take the train one way to Lo Hu (Mainland) or the other direction into Hong Kong (Kowloon, Central, etc.)

“Too far from anything a tourist would want to do”

The bathroom was really lovely. Great bath, separate shower, extremely clean, large and well serviced, room was quiet at night. Very clean. However, this hotel is miles away from anything you will want to do as a tourist in HK. When you arrive you will see the university building a tiny 7/11 and 2 student takeaway fast food stores and the hotel - and what you see is what you get. There are no other shops, restaurants, attractions in the local vicinity. If you stay here and you want to see HK (either Kowloon city or the Island), you will need to make the 40minute train trip - changing trains across 4 train lines. We stayed Friday, Saturday and Sunday and travelled at different times including 8am Sunday morning, middle of the day and late evening and we never got a seat on any of the trains because they are always crowded. Not getting a seat isn't such a big deal but it's to illustrate that it's not a leisurely train trip on one line into the city. When we booked on expedia, the room description said WiFi but, although the hotel offers wifi, you have to pay for each device - each day (and not a cheap rate). There is a huge TV in the room but no remote control - rang room service, they confirmed you need to do everything manually on the TV. The beds, although made up with lovely, clean linen were extremely hard and did not make for a good sleep. The service was really average. Not terrible and not great. I would not recommend this for the HK tourist traveller.

Area recommendations

I would suggest Kowloon (if you can handle the touts) or the Island itself.

Shopping

Go to the Fa Yuen Street (Mong Kok) . No need to haggle here - the prices are already set and at rock bottom. Go to the Ladies market first (just down the street) - don't buy anything - just check the prices, then come here and pay up to half the price you were just quoted at the Ladiers market.

“Value for money Hong Kong Hotel”

Despite requesting a non-smoking room when making the reservation, we were shown to a club room on the smoking floor. We were not able to cope with the smoky smell for our stay so requested a non-smoking room straight away. The room we were changed to was far superior, including a meeting room table and we had a very pleasant stay. We have used this hotel before and will again because of the convenience of the train station on the doorstep. The adminstration of the hotel leaves a little to be desired but the staff are very helpful, polite and friendly. The club lounge can be used by the club room residents and is very pleasant with the cocktails and nibbles in the evening and a continental breakfast in the morning.
